The difference for me is teams like Italy, Spain, France, Brazil and Germany always have that creative midfielder who can unlock a game with one pass. Before every wc/euros start, they always make the call, that they are gonna win and they always shit the bed at some point, eventho you have really good players (United Generation of the 90s for example or 2010 was a good team aswell around Lampart, Stevie, ...)

This song is beautifully written. I hate football but I love this song. The tune is simple but the underlying chord structure is quite complex and very clever. An absolute classic that will still be played in a hundred years’ time.

Times are changing. 2018 was just a taste of what our lads can do. Their first world cup and they go further than all but a few before them. They broke the penalty curse and brought a very fractured nation togather.
They came home as heroes having restored national faith in the team. As someone in my mud 20s I have only every known the bitter taste of defeat as shootout after shootout went against us. When dier scored it wad like all that misery was gone at last.

You really gotta admire the English's passion for this game. This is still my all time favorite football song. Might they be the best team of the world or not, I still like them. It was an english player that got me into football after all. His name is David Beckham.

It's aged better than the original. Changing the central refrain to "No more years of hurt", for starters, was a more timeless move, and the "We still believe" harmony at the beginning gives me a tingle that the original didn't.
