Dustin Hoffman commented emotionally on how he too . would never even notice women who were like Dorothy and you could see the tears in his eyes. A great actor and a great person .
When he was in full dress and makeup, sometimes he'd wander around a little while waiting. He said, he complained, that he was treated differently, badly, even by people who knew it was him.
So many girls, teens, and women did this in crowded public streets. As well as in garage windows, and small towns. It’s truly an amazing phenomenon of earlier times up to this period.
Dabney Coleman was the go-to actor in the 80s to play a mysoginistic sexist. Anyone remember '9 to 5'? He's brilliant in both films. I don't think he was ever the lead actor in anything, but always gave a commanding supporting actor performance. Just thought I would mention it since everyone's raving about Hoffman (deservedly) but his performance wouldn't have worked as well without a convincing antagonist.
Yep! He played the demanding boss of Dolly Parton, Lilly Tomlin and Jane Fonda. Ironically, Dustin's Dorothy looks almost EXACTLY like Jane's character🤔Same hair, glasses and outfits
It was brilliant of Sidney Pollack to have Doris Belack, who played Anna Woleck Craig on ABC's soap "One Life To Live" as Rita Marshall in Tootsie! Love it!!!
Classic! I was privileged to have director Sydney Pollack as a customer when I worked in NYC . Love the part he plays in this film too...Dorothy's agent. One of the last projects he told me about was a little film with George Clooney called Michael Clayton.
Help me out. Hoffman barges in on his agent, who's on the phone with the west coast. So it has to be late in the morning, NYC time, at least. Then, does he go and win the part that same afternoon? The producer says, "we'll send the contracts over this afternoon." So, when Hoffman meets his agent outside the Russian Tea Room, at lunch hour, it has to be the next day, right? My question is, how could the agent NOT KNOW that Hoffman got the part? The contracts were to be sent over the afternoon of the audition. You would think the agent would have been BLOWN AWAY that someone he represented had got a part on a national TV show!
The great Sydney Pollack stole every scene he was in as the beleaguered agent. I think Michael’s audition would have had to have been the next day as he had to get Dorothy’s look together. That would have been labor intensive. The lunch scene was the day after the audition. George’s office probably would’ve received the contract late the previous day, and George probably hadn’t seen them yet, but if he did he wouldn’t have recognized this client, “Dorothy“ as Michael. The scene in the Russian tea room is probably my favorite in the movie.
In the scene where on the live soap set, if that actually happened on a live soap set, they would most likely have cut the scene instead of letting it run through
Hoffman put in a brilliant performance in this exceptional movie. But I have to say I think his voice as Dorothy Michaels is less than attractive as far as femininity goes. Yes, one of those "suspension of disbelief" things. // I will always treasure the moments when Teri Garr was on screen playing Sandy. Her hysteria scene in Michael's apartment near the end never gets old.
God I wish we still had smartly written movies coming out now. Instead we get Taranatino meme-y dialog and pseudo-intellectual dreck like Christopher Ryan movies.
Yes and yes was the start of men dressing like women trying to push an agenda you didn't get the message like Mrs Doubtfie the rest of Hellywood actors trying to push this agenda.
This was an early form of Male hate being peddled by our favorite usurpers. It's a lovely movie and superbly acted but the aforementioned is, unfortunately, true.
Michael Dorsey to Julie Nichols: "But I was a better man with you, as a woman… than I ever was with a woman, as a man. You know what I mean?”
She shook her head lol
One of my favorite lines
I think most men should try Michael’s technique to be better men.
The way she shook her head was perfect like “no” and confusion at same time
We were already good friends.

@@veramae4098 Yep. He learned a lot about how women who are middle aged become "invisible" when they are considered no longer of "use" to men.
We seem to go from cute little girls to cute little old ladies far too quickly.
"I'd like to make her look a little more attractive. How far can you pull back?". "How do you feel about Cleveland?". 🤣😂🤣
Knock it off! 😂😂😂
Always loved that line.

classics! ♥️♥️♥️
This was SUCH a good movie. Dustin Hoffman did a wonderful job as Dorothy. It doesn't get shown on TV nearly enough so I haven't seen it in a while.
I totally agree!!!
I first saw this movie when I was very young, and I remember being blown away by how great the acting was. Still one of my favorite movies.
BULLSH*T.... !! Lange gave the most deadpan insipid performance ever and still got the Oscar..??!!
Mine too
i was 18 years old when this came out. i just had graduated from high school. i really enjoyed the movie.
I wish this kind of movie was still being made - funny, great story line, no violence, no gratuitous sex scenes.
Hoffman's quick 'mirror check' as he's walking was a brilliant choice, probably done impromptu.
So many girls, teens, and women did this in crowded public streets.
As well as in garage windows, and small towns.
It’s truly an amazing phenomenon of earlier times up to this period.
It was. We women do this all the time on the way to job interviews.
That audition Dorothy gave was actually quite gripping - she’d have stood out in real life.
Anyone ever notice that Jo, the woman reading the lines behind the camera, is Lynne Thigpen, best known as the Chief from Carmen Sandiego?
Mein Lieblingsfilm. Guck ich immer wieder seit 1984…🥰
What a genius movie! Genius script, genius directing, genius acting.
0:03-0:27: Dustin Hoffman made up into a lovely female redhead. Totally love him in this role. ❤❤
Sorry, but I always thought Dustin looked better as Dorothy. He's just not a super handsome man. But I love him just the same!
I agree.. He makes a great looking woman!
I always considered the hair colour a Light Golden Brown, rather than red.

He was great in Other Side of the Mountain as the kind ski coach.
He was a handsome actor in the early 1960s.
Yep! He played the demanding boss of Dolly Parton, Lilly Tomlin and Jane Fonda. Ironically, Dustin's Dorothy looks almost EXACTLY like Jane's character🤔Same hair, glasses and outfits
One of the best actors ever: from Rainman to Tootsie he could be anyone or anything he wanted with the greatest success!
Don't forget his performance in Midnight Cowboy in 1969
It's a major crime we don't get movies like this anymore. This is a comedy classic.
I love it when she asks Bill Murray if she looks okay on her first day and Bill Murray says " Don't play hard to get." 😂

She was also a villain in another weird noir-ish soap opera ‘The Edge of Night’
One of the best movies I've ever watched. I watched it like a hundred times the last 16 years.
It is kind of addictive! I honestly think it changed my life
That scene was so good I almost teared up! Dustin is a gem.
That's my two favorite lines 1. "How do you feel about Cleveland?😆 2."Knock it off"

I fall in love for this movie ❤❤❤❤❤
Before we got Mrs. Doubtfire we had Tootsie❤❤❤
One of my favorite movies. Absolutely brilliant.
Still a very funny movie
It’s one of my and hsusband’scfavorite movies of all time. So wonderful!
2:41 most luminous character intro ever
When smoking was allowed everywhere even inside buildings. Time has flown by.🤩
Crazy, everyone was smoking it looked like a 60s newsroom!
Glad they got rid of that mess.
The unforgettable days of college, in a room with firmly closed windows, and a team of smokers headed by the professor.

Yes. It was awful!
AN OSCAR WORTHY PERFORMANCE ! HE PULLED IT OFF ! YOU FELT YOU WERE WATCHING DOROTHY, NOT DUSTIN IN DRAG ! BRILLIANT !
I love the way Dorothy says "yeasch" Lol.
FANTASTIC ❤❤❤❤❤❤ AMERICA LOVES TOOTSIE in 1982, to AMERICA NEEDS TOOTSIE in 2024. ❤ TOOTSIE FOR PRESIDENT
Omg is there any role Dustin Hoffman can't do case in point this movie Tootsie great movie great actor 💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓😄😄😄😄😄😄
0:15 That blonde woman behind Hoffman is doing everything she can to hold back her laughter. 😂😂
Omg I love this movie❤❤❤❤
Двойная роль у Хоффмана! И женщина, и роль этой женщины в сериале 🤯😱👍
Hustin played the outrage with femininity. Impressive
Genius
The next scene is great too, in the restaurant. Dorothy reveals herself to George as Michael and George says "I begged you to get some therapy!"
Tootsie, Some Like it Hot, Mrs. Doubtfire, Lazy Susan
are my favorite comedies
I guess I like men in dresses
💚
try To Wong Foo Tahnks For Everything. Patrick Swayze in drag is so lovely, highly reccomend.
The "Cleveland" joke will never get old.

I still remembered he should win the Oscar for this role not that bald man from Gandhi!
You mean, "Call Me Sir" Ben Kingsley. I fell asleep during the loincloth fitting scene.....
He was impeccable!

Mrs Doubtfire when she/he was young, lol
Супер тетя.
Ha ha ha, well done Dustin! 😆
All the cigarettes ( I remember when people smoked everywhere) this was near the beginning of the end of that
Great movie. When entertainment didn't have to be so political the way it is now.
how bout cleveland lol
Someone once said, "The best women... are men" 😂

No. Have you even watched the movie?
