My favorite reveal is Jack Lemmon revealing to Joe E Brown in Some Like it Hot. First he lists all the things wrong with him to discourage Joe E. None of them bother him. Finally Lemmon says "I'm a man". Joe E just smiles and says "Nobody's perfect."
Isn't it just the greatest unexpected twist ever? It's certainly the most fun. I like to think the two of them did set up house together & lived happily ever after. One of the best things about that line is that it was never intended to make it into the final cut. It was simply a placeholder until the writer could "come up with something better." As if that were even possible, LOL. Imagine if they'd cut that zinger of a line!
My Mom LOVED that movie! She said it took a while watching, to realize that a woman didn't step into Hoffman's shoes to be the character he did such a great job. She was the biggest fan of Dustin Hoffman after this movie.
I remember seeing this movie when it was originally out. I remember, also, that the audience ROARED with laughter, when "she" revealed herself to be a "he"!
@@AuroraMeansDawn27 I still remember when Stefano kept her locked up in a giant birdcage in some tunnels underneath the city....🤣Or when Carrie and Mike slept together in Vegas and the bed flew up into the sky...🤣
You’re right. How many times does a character “die” and then come back?? And this includes a time that the main villain fell out of a plane with no chute.😮
In the 80s I was hooked on Soaps, and one day I woke up and thought to myself this is not the real world. My sister-in-law used to watch one with Witches and I thought boy is she gone because she was so hooked. 😂
I always used to tell my mother she looked like Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie, and she was like, "I'm fine with that!". Turns out she and Hoffman had a fling back in the mid 60's while they were working together Off Broadway. I'd be wanting a paternity test if my birthday was a few years earlier! 🤣🤣
My wife's friend has a "wasband" who looks exactly like Tootsie. Such a great movie, very re-watchable. Lots of attention to detail, the characters are truly alive.
@@pricklypear7516 Because it's one of those standard TH-cam thing to say. If you check, you'll find that Spielberg was an underrated director, Michael Jackson an underrated singer/dancer etc etc
This is Dustin quite literally acting his panties off as Dorothy, in one of the most exhilarating & inspired climaxes to a Romantic Comedy Movie in history! 😉😉😁😁😁👏👏👏
Lol. Omg. The cross that poor woman had to bear. I lived in Houston when Kathy Whittier was mayor but I was probably still a teenager and never bothered to see what she looked like.
Notice that Dorothy's front teeth change when the wig comes off. The teeth were integral to Dorothy's appearance as a woman. Sydney Pollack discusses it in one of the videos here.
This movie definitely echoed aspects of the feminist movement of the 80s. It is a reversal of him needing to be female to find success in the workplace, and it highlights misogyny a few times. People would definitely scream "woke" and over react if an equivalent to Tootsie came out now.
@@andromedaspark2241 They would call it propaganda that is trying to trans our kids. It’s funny how gender in a lot of ways was way less controversial in the past, yet the anti-woke critics somehow think they are defending ‘tradition’ by making a fuss over every little thing
When Dustin rips off his wig and reveals himself, does he go into his Jack Grabb voice from Little Big Man? I don't think I've seen this movie except in TH-cam clips in at least 30 years, and I just realized this.
This bit was parodied on "Family Guy" once. On the show, Stewie was a fan of a British kids show called Jolly Farm, and when he heard there was going to be a US version, he disguised himself as a girl to be a part of it. There was one part they had to do "live", so in the middle of it all, he did something similar to what Dustin Hoffman's character did here.
Was that for real in there, or were you auditioning for the part? Which answer will get me a reading? I'd like to make her look a little more attractive, how far can you pull back? How do you feel about Cleveland?
Hoffman played a trick on actor Jose Ferrer. Dressed as Dorothy, the two got into an elevator along with one of Ferrer's assistants. Dorothy said she was a big fan, he said "thank you." Then she made a filthy remark simply to make him uncomfortable. After Dorothy got off the elevator he asked his assistant: "who was the scumbag woman?"
Best Dustin Hoffman movie? Tell me…
You posted the best piece of acting Hoffman has ever done, in my opinion.
Loved his work in Hook and Dick Tracy (and Tootsie, obviously) but for me, Outbreak is a winner.💜
It's certainly my favorite.
Rainman
Yes. Nothing to add other than yes. It’s fantastic!
''I never laid a hand on her-''

Who's here for Teri ? RIP Teri 🙏 ❤️

Ironically, this would be one of the best moments in all televised soap opera.
Without a doubt, one of the best films of the eighties 👍
I can imagine the continuity supervisor having one hell of a time the following 48 hours to make sense of it all and make it fit. YOU GOT 24 HOURS!
Dustin did such a great job in this movie,as did all of the actors.Great one!😊👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🎬
I saw this in the theaters and screamed with laughter when they showed this scene!!!!!
"I knew there was some reason she didn't like me!"
My favorite part is everyone in the director's box unraveling: "Oh no not live", "What score?", "WHAT?", [[*GASP*]]
My Mom LOVED that movie! She said it took a while watching, to realize that a woman didn't step into Hoffman's shoes to be the character he did such a great job. She was the biggest fan of Dustin Hoffman after this movie.
Polly Holliday (Flo from "Alice") was one of Dustin's coaches for the role.
One of the BEST climax scenes to a movie, ever. . Right after he says….. “no I’m not “ I almost died laughing, and it was such a great moment
Teri Garr's scream. Haha!

The way Les drops his sandwich, yet still proceeds to take a bite out of shock. Hilarious!!!!! 😂😂😂😂
I like how they used 10 crucial seconds to show how the main (and side) characters work.
Oh my, now that one part of the Childrens Hospital web series finally makes sense.

Jessica Lange was sooo good. Fully immersed in every character she played. So underrated.

She won two Oscars! lol

Bill Murray's final line here is my pick for the best one in the movie.

RIP Teri Garr and Dabney Coleman.
A movie like this couldn't be made these days.
Those cuts to Sandy, Julie's dad, everyone else... it's the comedy equivalent of setting up C4 charges on the foundations of a condemned building.
Geena Davis is so cute
This is a great movie. Not political. Not trying to follow an agenda. Just pure creative entertainment from the 80's. Great fun.

The bar scene when Charles Durning turns an unsuspecting smile to silent rage.
