I had totally forget about this story before watching West Andersons adaption of this story. Anderson did reduce the story down to make it work, but he really nailed the feel of Dahl's writing in a visual media like no other.

This seems to common with older recordings. Not sure if it has something to do with radio broadcasting or just the way they wanted to convey the story. It does breathe a lot more being slower.
