The first time I put the 50mm 1.4 Art lens on my D610, I was blown away by the sharpness. They are, hands down, the sharpest damn lenses, wide-open. Great review! :)
It's also a good focal length because it's near the 44mm image diagonal of full frame, which matches the perspective of human vision. So it essentially gives the effect of looking through a window.
There were people on /r/London complaining that some of those cheeky elves had been freezing brussel sprouts before throwing them. This was down at Kings Cross though, did the Santa's stretch all the way from Angel?
Hi Kai, where did you shoot this video? I guess this place should be fantastic place for photos. And would you test the sigma 56mm f1.4DC on full frame? 40ART is a "little bit" heavy...
How do they make a 40 this BIG 😭 was hoping for something somewhat pocketable like the Zeiss 40 f2 In general, Sigma's Art glass is absolutely massive - a 50 the size of a 70-200, a 40 just below that.. it's ridiculous, but the optical performance is outstanding. I just wish they'd also make more smaller options.
If you don't like what they sell, don't buy. Make smaller options yourself that perform as well optically. If this proves difficult, at least you'll be too busy to complain about anything else.
i love 40mm prime lenses ! do you ever considered make a video with sony a7R3 and zeiss Batis 40mm f2 ? i really looking forward to that and please make more video!! i really love to watch your video more than any other photographa on youtube !!
Oh, I follow sixstreetunder! I didn't clue in to who he was until the end of the video when you showed his IG. He does some great street photography and he shoots with the Fujifilm X-Pro2 (which I've been lusting after since buying the X100F).
Always super! I was waiting for this review. Sigma is doing a good job I really appreciate their products I'm using 18-35mm, 20mm and 30mm and I had a short time 50mm one of the best I've used so far. Maybe the next one will be 40mm but the price is still high.
I've owned L lenses and Sigma lenses, and honestly, always enjoyed my Sigma lenses more. They're magnificent for the price. L lenses have better build quality, but sometimes the glass or tech isn't as good.
The newer L lenses are fantastic, though. I think only the older models are somewhat lacking. Lenses like the 85mm F/1.4 L IS USM and the 16-35mm F/4 L IS USM are pretty much unrivaled.
That 50mm comparison is unbelievable! Are you sure it wasn't out of focus? :-D I have already saw something like that from the Northrups (well, theirs was ridiculous).
Kai, as you know sony zeiss has a 40mm f2...much more compact/light weight than the Sigma. Much more flexible when it comes to mounting on a gimbal. However, I'd would like to see a comparison on wide open sharpness and bokeh.
At 1.2 kg this lens is way out of proportions!!! 40mm lenses have always been a practical focal length... I just cannot see me lugging around this dumbell in the streets, a big heavy large aperture portrait lens or massive bulbous wide-angle are alright because they have pretty specific uses. Not this one...
Yeah good point. This Sigma 40 1.2 would be great lens when you are meeting your client on location, pull out from the bag,a quick photoshoot and then back to bag. But it is def. no walkaround lens. Just too big and heavy for 40mm. If you are with Sony Batis 40 f2 would be better option for that.
Kai whats the word, I've got the Sigma 50 1.4 on my Nikon, where would the 10mm make a difference. I dont think I'd go for it, but curious just how much sharper is it, and show us a BOKEH comparison between 40mm and 50mm @ 1.4 - 2.8 ranges :D
been waiting for your review on this sigma 40mm art for so long, I think I am gonna have it. Look forward to your review over the sigma new 70-200 dg sport lens.
hey, love your channel man, you are the first one got me in photography.. I got a quick question.. for international traveling, which two lens would you suggest with a7iii, a)16-35 GM b)24mm f1.4 GM c) 24-70 canon with adapter d) 85mm f1.4 GM.. I want to do some landscape also some portrait photography with background.
Thanks for the review! Sigma are gunning for sharpness. How about its colour and depth rendering? Seems like they've named clinical levels of Sharpness "art"
Firstly nice review Kai !!! I have to say im a little dissapointed that you used f4 for most of the shots would be nicer to see more shots taken wide open.😊
Of course is massive! Its a large lens, but if you use it with the adaptator is even more monstrous! Without it the package will be something similar to a A7 with the 50 Planar
When Sigma makes a pancake lens, they use all the batter.
Nah, they just make a whole stack instead of just one.
thats some filling pancake...
When Sigma makes a pancake lens it's a 12-stack.
Like a typical stacked pancake with syrup
🤣That Canon 35mm is not 7g!! Always lose bits of text when I export the video from FCPX. It's 760g!!
A+
Yeah but they SHOULD make a 7g lens just to do it.
Is it actually sharper even than the Canon 135 f2? I remember you saying that that was the sharpest lens you've ever tested before
Join us in premiere pro land and put up with a world of bugs and crashes, but no random text loss!
What happen on your accent?
I purchased the 40 1.4 and it is pretty sharp and it’s focus is the most accurate i’ve Seen in the art lineup yet.
Definitely digging the sigma lineup
The first time I put the 50mm 1.4 Art lens on my D610, I was blown away by the sharpness. They are, hands down, the sharpest damn lenses, wide-open. Great review! :)
Loving my 50mm Sigma art lens, freaking sharp. But, man what a beast! Will have to give the 40mm a ride at some point too.
I got the sigma 50mm to and you're not kidding super sharp
Amazing rendering..unlike previous art lenses which had too clinical look....looks like that cinema glass is doing wonders.
The elusive sharp bokeh
Remember me to never ask Kai to take me a photo with my phone 😂😂
Craig just never stops looking around. Nice to see how the great ones work
2:17
Kai is Savage
It's also a good focal length because it's near the 44mm image diagonal of full frame, which matches the perspective of human vision. So it essentially gives the effect of looking through a window.
A sharp bokeh window
I'd be curious to know how the new 28mm stands up!
Great location and great show. Thanks again Kai
how about that sigma vs zeiss batis 40mm f/2 ?
Sigma balls
The new Leica, sigma and Panasonic ff will use the same l mount. So Leica and sigma ligma (? :v
shouldn't you be testing it on a canon 5dsr for sharpness? :)
This or the 50 art for mostly portraits??
Can't really go wrong with either. I love their 35mm
I love 40mm. I hope they make this for the Nikon Z mount in the future. I want one very much for my Z6
Enter Sigma Contemporary Primes now, for Nikon
Excellent video Kai!
There were people on /r/London complaining that some of those cheeky elves had been freezing brussel sprouts before throwing them. This was down at Kings Cross though, did the Santa's stretch all the way from Angel?
RandomNameHere that group started at angel and went to kings cross. Was another group coming from the south too.
Hi Kai, where did you shoot this video? I guess this place should be fantastic place for photos. And would you test the sigma 56mm f1.4DC on full frame? 40ART is a "little bit" heavy...
Only Kai would take selfies of himself when someone asks him to take a group photo lol
looks like you guys have fun. love your accent. miss them so much. need to go back to the UK and shoot it. especially wales. keep up the good work
How do they make a 40 this BIG 😭 was hoping for something somewhat pocketable like the Zeiss 40 f2
In general, Sigma's Art glass is absolutely massive - a 50 the size of a 70-200, a 40 just below that.. it's ridiculous, but the optical performance is outstanding. I just wish they'd also make more smaller options.
That's the thing that bugs me about Sigma lenses.
If you don't like what they sell, don't buy. Make smaller options yourself that perform as well optically. If this proves difficult, at least you'll be too busy to complain about anything else.
Yeah Kai, where's the original lens line?? 🤔
their approach is maximum quality with absolutely no compromise
Go big or go home right :3
每集都有個主題圍繞住嚟review器材,有context有故事有氣氛,真係好正
I think I need this one for my C200 haha !! Love Sigma glass :).
Of Two Lands I need a C200. Then I need this lens 🤣
C200 wait for Sigma 40mm T1.5 FF
BUT 40mm f1.4 Art is cheaper
This is sick... I saw photos on SixStreetUnder last week from Santa Con... 💪
Deffo a day 1 purchase when it comes to the e-mount natively
The Sigma lineup is looking sweet now. They have a 24-70 f/2.8 Art coming Kai, you aiming to review that as well?
4:15 is that nikon?
I’ve been using it for the last week and I love it.
Craig is so good. Love his work.
i love 40mm prime lenses ! do you ever considered make a video with sony a7R3 and zeiss Batis 40mm f2 ? i really looking forward to that and please make more video!! i really love to watch your video more than any other photographa on youtube !!
Are all the photos shown unedited?
Please try the Voigtlander 40mm 1.2 !!!
Don't remember you saying. Is the Sigma weather sealed?
Oh, I follow sixstreetunder! I didn't clue in to who he was until the end of the video when you showed his IG. He does some great street photography and he shoots with the Fujifilm X-Pro2 (which I've been lusting after since buying the X100F).
Kai channeling his inner Berry White...
I wonder how it stacks up to the DFA* 50mm 1.4 from Pentax.
Always super! I was waiting for this review. Sigma is doing a good job I really appreciate their products I'm using 18-35mm, 20mm and 30mm and I had a short time 50mm one of the best I've used so far. Maybe the next one will be 40mm but the price is still high.
Any chance you will be testing the Zeiss Batis 40mm?
People when they see your camera is pointed at them: uhhh tf?
Santa when he sees your camera is pointed at him: Ayyyyy **poses**
I've been so excited for this lens! Freaking love a 40mm
Could you have a look at the Batis 40mm next?
I just happen to have one here with me right now!
Sony 35mm 1.4 GM coming soon?...
Would love to see Sigma 105mm review
4:30 demonitized
dude you got so much character it's hilarious 😭😭
I've owned L lenses and Sigma lenses, and honestly, always enjoyed my Sigma lenses more. They're magnificent for the price. L lenses have better build quality, but sometimes the glass or tech isn't as good.

Good to know. Would be interested in trying the 85mm 1.4, personally! 16-35mm not fast enough :(. I'm a prime whore.
Kai. Have you tried the Zeiss 55. How does that match up?
Been thinking about getting this for a while now, that's just confirmed that i need one in my life.
Nice video Kai! Do a review of the Tamron G2 lenses!
I’ve been following Sixstreetunder for some time now!! He has a wonderful page
Would like to see it compared to a smc FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited lens
#salute Audain!
Man this lens is...I just want it. For Christmas.
Also the fact that you made so many selfies...SO SAVAGE
Sigma looks like it has a strong magenta cast, was it made for Sony, or Canon?
That 50mm comparison is unbelievable! Are you sure it wasn't out of focus? :-D
I have already saw something like that from the Northrups (well, theirs was ridiculous).
Been using the 24mm f1.4 Art lens for about a year now, and I absolutely love it :)
Can't wait to see Sigma line up with the Panasonic S1
Still no announcement about the Xiaomi Giveaway?
Kai, as you know sony zeiss has a 40mm f2...much more compact/light weight than the Sigma. Much more flexible when it comes to mounting on a gimbal. However, I'd would like to see a comparison on wide open sharpness and bokeh.
Is that Amy Moore from WEX videos at 0.36??
Canon eos r, Sony alpha 7III, nikon z6 would you say the Sony is the best of those 3?
At 1.2 kg this lens is way out of proportions!!! 40mm lenses have always been a practical focal length... I just cannot see me lugging around this dumbell in the streets, a big heavy large aperture portrait lens or massive bulbous wide-angle are alright because they have pretty specific uses. Not this one...
then dont - it is af fantastic lens for thoes who does not care about size but just want the best at this price.
How does the Sigma compare to the new Canon RF 50mm 1.2L
I bet RF is the king among all 50mm lenses.
RF 50mm 1.2L is sharper, but unfortunately that comparison is written in Chinese.
Interested in the 40/F2 CF. I’m loving the 40 resurgence, I’ve discovered it’s a great everyday focal length since shooting with a Leica Minilux
what sony camera is he using
Is it sharper than the Zeiss Milvus 50?
Hey Kaiman, I’d love to see your review and opinions on the canon 28-300mm L. Any chance?
Kai whats the word, I've got the Sigma 50 1.4 on my Nikon, where would the 10mm make a difference. I dont think I'd go for it, but curious just how much sharper is it, and show us a BOKEH comparison between 40mm and 50mm @ 1.4 - 2.8 ranges :D
been waiting for your review on this sigma 40mm art for so long, I think I am gonna have it. Look forward to your review over the sigma new 70-200 dg sport lens.
Could you test the new 56mm 1.4 for the apsc?
I just bought the rokinon 14mm f2.8 / 35mm f1.4 / 50mm f1.4 AF lenses for Sony E mount. Thoughts vs this $1000+ lens...?
I’ve got the 50mm by sigma and am getting the 35mm but now I’m gonna have to get another sigma. They are amazing and sharp they keep impressing me
hey, love your channel man, you are the first one got me in photography.. I got a quick question.. for international traveling, which two lens would you suggest with a7iii, a)16-35 GM b)24mm f1.4 GM c) 24-70 canon with adapter d) 85mm f1.4 GM.. I want to do some landscape also some portrait photography with background.
Really needed to compare with the Canon 40mm though (or the Panasonic 20mm on your GH5)...
im going to start taking selfies first when someone asks me to take a picture of them
So how does compare to the 35mm Art?
Can you please make a review on the new sigma 56mm f1.4 lens
Art really good
Hope you get to review the Canon RF lenses too such as the 50mm 1.2 and 35mm 1.8. Great video as always.
Since you’re testing this on Sony, how about the Sony 1,4/50mm?
@sixtreetunder one of the best out there.
have you a link for your red jacket?
What about the 50 1.2R lens?
Good work man!!!!
Woah. Imagine usign a BW filter with Red passing through in these scenes :)
Btw: was the XiaoMi Pro 8 winner already announced Kai?
Thanks for the review! Sigma are gunning for sharpness. How about its colour and depth rendering? Seems like they've named clinical levels of Sharpness "art"
I find that Sigmas always jam or fail to work with the camera when you need it to and have had their problems with af but that is one Sharp sigma.
Kai.. your camera looks well hung with that lense!
Your voice is so good
I use the old 35mm F1.4 sigma. Whats the difference between this and the Art version
Firstly nice review Kai !!! I have to say im a little dissapointed that you used f4 for most of the shots would be nicer to see more shots taken wide open.😊
Lots of selfies. That's a neat trick! :D
Of course is massive! Its a large lens, but if you use it with the adaptator is even more monstrous! Without it the package will be something similar to a A7 with the 50 Planar
Comparing it with the Sony 90mm Macro, which will u prefer?
Cool. I like it.
You should compare it to the Kipon 40mm
Love your work Kai, I see you all the time 😉
