- Mexico City is noisy! Today I talk about the classic and iconic street sounds of Mexico City. And, especially for foreigners when they come here, the noises are very confusing. You don't know what they mean. You'll be cosy in bed, and on the street outside, you'll hear so many different sounds!

Paul te faltó un sonido escencial: La alarma sísmica. Muchos extranjeros no conocen el sonido y llegan a confundirlo con los muchos sonidos de la ciudad.
Verdad, soy un extranjero y nunca ha escuchar este sonido.

It took 2 1/2 years to finally figure out what that noise was in Mexico City. The guy came by a few times a day--it was for sweet potatoes and we were several floors up and couldn't figure out what he was selling. Thanks!

I remember panaderos clicking their bread pincers making them sound like spanish castañuelas. Also, the "tamales oaxaqueños" recording is older than the "fierro viejo".
Oh that scrap metal girl sound.. it became my favorita tune everyday at noon time when I was in DF..

Some years ago the postman also used a whistle to warn that he was bringing letters to your home. Also the seller of paletas, nieves and ice creams announced with some bells. The bread seller used a small corneta to tell that he was bringing the bread. The helium balloon vendor brought a whistle with a very curious sound.

4:11 on my visitó to México City, I was ru ing late to my meeting (2014) so I bougt 1 tamales and 1 atole. 19 pesos total. Gave me enough energy for the better part of the day. The treat was delicious, worth metioning. My next meal was 280 pesos for a regular dish at Sanborns.

Not long ago there was also a nightwatch it will walk the empty streets blowing a wistle with an erie sound that will dissipate as he goes away as a kid i could only wonder how brave this man was to walk by himself watching over the empty city streets!
I don't know why but I want to learn English after watching a video about my own country.

The wey of the camotes... Sounds great!!! For me the cilindrero and the guy for the knifes remember me my childhood
I love the sound buses and traillers make when they go in reverse, it can go from a silly version of The Godfather to Tarzan shouting.The church bells are also a thing in lots of hoods. Some of them are super annoying and loud AF.
3:51 in some neighborhoods panaderos go around playing the song of tintan "el panadero con el pan... el panadero con el pan...", the ones that play the record of tintan i only have seen them in poor nighborhoods in cdmx or in other states like oaxaca and puebla.
I hate it.

Some of those sounds you hear them in Los Ángeles, Cali Because Los Ángeles always being the 2nd house to millions of Mexicanos.But if you go to other cities in Cali.California you will see mexicanos selling mostly with our mexicano communities.I'm very familiar with alot of these sounds they are a part of me living in Tijuana.Baja.California. México🇲🇽
Wonderful video - fun, respectful and informative! I am going to have to watch this a few times to memorize the sounds before my next visit. The one I will never forget is the sweet potato/ camote. The sound that symbolized CCMX for me that you did not mention - honking horns. After a week in Juarez I could hear car horns in my dreams. Oh, and doesn't the "running man" walk traffic sign also make noise? BTW, I thought the movie Roma did a great job of capturing some of the sounds in the background.

It seems nice, to have these sounds letting you know you can support local business, its charming and cheeky.
At my mom's workplace, sometimes around 7pm, appears an ambulant Panadero that announces himself with Tin-Tan's "Panadero con el Pan" song, it always cheers her up as it remembers her childhood.

Faltan: el globero , el de los merengueeeees, el que vende nata y hace un sonido con un triángulo, los de la marimba, los que venden ajos y canela en el tianguis, el de los tamalitos de elote, el de los biquets calentitos y especialmente los sonidos del carrito de paletas de hielo 🤔, por mencionar algunos. Por La Villa de Guadalupe puedes encontrar muchos sonidos más como las gorditas maíz, etc.

I am from Mexico state and here, that honking sound you used for the panaderos is more associated with the people selling nieves on a tricycle, I guess because there a lot more small bakeries around and so the tricycle panadero doesn't come around often

Greetings from Inglaterra tio Paul! As a 'MexBrit', I like playing these recorded sounds during the summer mornings here in my estate (neighbourhood) in England. They bring great memories and feelings of the cheery symphonies of the great city 'la gran amiga'. The funny thing is that the neighbours don't what's going on when I play them loudly in my back garden! 🤭😄

Just came back from spending a month in Mexico City with my BF 's family. Loved the tamale guy first thing in the morning on Jalalpa, the garbage guys (run out with the garbage before he left) the gas guy, & water guys, but my fave was Maria's enchanting voice everywhere. Heard her echoing in the distance when we visited the pyramids! 💕 I'll be going back 🌺

I was smiling from start to finish, remembering beautiful memories of when I would hear those specific sounds. Personally, I have so many with the men selling tortillas. Memories I share with my late grandma.
