"Basically, if u learn how the QY70 works u can jump on any other machine or software for that matter and understand 100% how everything works." You got that right!!! That's why I'm nearly the world's biggest advocate of hardware MIDI sequencers. I'm discovering online that musicians/producers under 30 are not aware that General MIDI (GM) was conceived as a means to control "hardware synths" produced by various makers. See...The Complete MIDI 1.0 Detailed Specification.
Holy Fricken Cow dude, you Are INCREDIBLE! I know this is Above and Beyond's peice, but your recreation is spectacular! I hop you post your stuff here too!!
the qy70 and 100 were professional seq XG sound format and hell of controller playback 3 fx sends and 24 track seq 8 patterns and 16 tracks this thing was the bomb and still is I love mine
QY100 is an extended QY70. It's got more and better sounds, a smart media card reader and a guitar/mic input with effects section. The styles of the QY70 are rather dance based, the ones of QY100 are Rock based.
In fact, QY100 doesn't have more and better sounds. It just got more memory, audio processing and sligtly improved power consumption. Btw: I just bought one for $100 ;) and it's far better than I even imagined. Pitty that they don't do something like this again. Less weight (but same size), velocity buttons with aftertouch, backlight display with piano roll and I'll definitely buy it for even more like lets say Korg M50?
I still prefer this unit to a laptop any day and I have actually programmed computers for a living. The combination of the QY100 & the Kork PadKontrol is a match made in heaven!
The QY-series are so called "mini workstations". It means they provide a synthesizer (Wave-rom based, but with filters and stuff) and a sequencer (pattern and song based). They just lack of a keyboard. ;)
Had a QY70 and did some similar stuff; sold it awhile back, but regained interest in, for me hands on sequencing(I'm still learning Reason3 ? This sounds really nice hope you finish it!
Question for QY owners - do anybody know, how to change time for "=END=" event in the edit mode? It's used for determining the loop of the song but it's set automaticaly by QY when you stop recording as the nearest ceiled bar... obviously, most of the time I've got one silent bar in the loop ;)
It does have more and better sounds. You just should compare Piano, Guitars and Drums for example. Also QY100 has 2 additional drumsets (Rock 3 and R&B) and a few more basses (FW Bass, Analog Bass, RezoBass to name a few).
Hi JayB, i had a Question maybe you can help me? I try to use the QY100 with XGworks, when i open the XGeditor to find my Model, there are only a QY70 but not a QY100 Model! The think is, when i change Parameters, Levels and Variation to Insert and change some Instruments...so you can cut the first Beat and "Send a new first Beat" to a empty Track, that my NEW Song Data will be stored in my Song, so that i can Save the Song and Load him on my SmardMedia and "LOAD" that Song INSIDE the QY100 with the Changes i had made "IN THE SOFTWARE" XGworks! - BUT, that wont work for me, the NEW Data will NOT Stored in the Song Data!? It is so, that ALL Data is LOST and all Tracks are set back to default "Grand Piano" ??? WTF? Have you a Clue? I think it is the Model Patch maybe, there are only a QY70 Model in XGworks...or must i change a Midi Parameter inside the QY100? I have try a lot, nothing helps...mmh?
You're right, there's no QY100 available for the XG Editor - by default. I made one myself editing some of the .ini files in the XGworks folder. I can send them to you, just leave me an e-mail at contact[a]jaybmusic[.]net. As for the other point I'm not quite sure I can follow you. You want to setup instruments and mixer settings using XGworks and want to save them as a MIDI file for the QY to load? Or you want to edit it directly for the QY100 and save it in a QY song? I don't get it to be honest. However, it's not because you're using the QY70 template, because both devices are based on XG standard which is compatible to all devices with an XG logo on it.
Sorry - my mistake. I read it at few webpages and they don't have the full list. On Yamaha it's clearly said: • An additional 28 Voices for a total of 547 Voices. • Two additional Drum Kits for a total of 22 Drum Kits. It will be cool if you could do the video of those 28+2 additional voices.
That would be cool. As much as I love Yamaha gear (AN1X/AN200) have you seen the lame sound engine they put into the Tenori-On, you would of thought they would of done more on such a ground breaking product
SunMedicalEnglish Above & Beyond? How to become them or how to produce music like them? And if the latter, which kind of music? The chill out stuff they had on Tri-State or the Club Tracks on "We're all we need"?
Blows my mind that you were able to get this done. Much respect.
Yes. It's directly recorded from the QY's phones output into my soundcard input. No further editing was done (except cutting and normalizing).

@ermollejuo The sequencing was done in XGworks - because it's easier. :)
Brilliant, love this, inspiring me to fire up my gear and get writing again!
No matter how many times I've seen this, it's still incredibly remarkable. Holy crap, dude.
that sounds fuckin incredible, and people try bashing it on the sounds but oh my god, this thing would be a dream come true for me

oh and I must say this the only drum machine seq studio in box that alowed real time patterns of its kind to this day nothing else does this!
i used to have this little baby...loved it, taught me sequencing. sold it to fund my big baby, the rs7000.
nice music you make there, mate.

Good work! The strings sound awesome.
i am blown away by the warmth out of the pads from yamaha synths

I'd love a new QY with Motif ES sounds or something. ;)
Pure class.
Прекрасная мелодия / beautiful melody 🧙♂️✌🏻
I still prefer this unit to a laptop any day and I have actually programmed computers for a living. The combination of the QY100 & the Kork PadKontrol is a match made in heaven!
Guess what. ;P I'm not using either of them. Check out my other videos, why.
cool. really good video quality and sound quality, by the way. impressive across the board
@usarian Thanks. I've finished "Stealing Time" from the same album some months ago, but yet I didn't find the time to record a video from it.

This is awesome.
Instruments are spot-on.
this is so freakin' cool! =)
Impressive!

@ojideagu After I got the QY100, I wanted the demo songs of the QY70 back. ;) I'm still searching for someone to send them as MIDI files. :P
Nice Melody

Mine does for 7 years now.
Yeah, : ) you enjoying it? its pretty cool! i wish there was a record loop function...like cubase...have you found it?
@luigiperso the phrases are categorized into styles

badass

What equipment, not software, would you use today to keep the natural and lush sound of the strings?
Bobcatt22 You mean which modern equipment? Because you can still use those old tone generators on modern computers today.
That would be cool. As much as I love Yamaha gear (AN1X/AN200) have you seen the lame sound engine they put into the Tenori-On, you would of thought they would of done more on such a ground breaking product
It would be cool to see a cover of Alone Tonight by Above and Beyond on your keyboards. With or without vocals. Would be a fun track to cover.
Justin Lee I did a cover of Stealing Time on the QY100. It's on my second channel, but you should find it by searching for Stealing Time QY100.
are these sounds from a keyboard or is everything preloaded into the sequencer?
ever ehard of cubase or ableton :B ?
thanks good tune, i'm definitely will buy one now. only i'll be getting qy 70 has it does nearly exactly the same thing...and it's $400 cheaper lol!!
But it has missing battery cover piece ;)
can you post a tutorial of above and beyond? it'd be a great help to your community here. thx
SunMedicalEnglish Above & Beyond? How to become them or how to produce music like them? And if the latter, which kind of music? The chill out stuff they had on Tri-State or the Club Tracks on "We're all we need"?
Yes You Right. I make shits (folk / dance ) for few hours using tons of loops and existent sounds. But with trance i didn't succeed.
are all the sounds coming from qy100 `?
midi ? plz !!!
can you send me a midi file of this?
I wish Yamaha would make atleast one more new version of the QY, I'm just afraid that they think people will rather buy a laptop computer...
Nnnnnniiiiiiiiiccce !!
The result of boredom was just the programming. The composition is not by me. :)
OMG ;) I've got this video in favorities for some time now but I just heard the original ;) Eh ;)))) I like this version much more than that ;)
The only thing I don´t like of this unit is that u can´t take midi out from pattern mode parts.
Actually you can. But it needs to be activated in the Utility view. Choose either midi tracks 1-8 or 9-16.
@@JayBmusic OMG....u are wright.....THATS GREAT!!! I will later check it with my keyboard. TY so MUCH!!!
much better than QY70 :)
Dislike Button = 0 !!!!
Awesome!
Did you eq any of the instrument tracks?
