My husband told me to really dress up as he was going to surprise me. I decked out in a formal, had my hair done, the whole nine yds. Where did he take me? An outdoors Outlaw concert. I could have killed him. The bright spot was the barefoot guy next to me kept staring at me not sure what to do. He asked if I wanted a hit off his joint. God bless that guy. 😄
This was originally done by Vaughn Monroe in 1949. It's been covered by Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, and Frankie Laine to name a few. The Outlaws put more of a rock spin on it, compared to the original country version. There is over 100 versions, in 11 languages. Love the guitars at the end, unbelievable. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Miss Blondie. Wow. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
@@rickandgen Cool! I did not know that. In the studio alt track where the Doors are working on the song, Morrison sings some old western songs, including the Theme from Rawhide.
Hello Harri, yeah, these guys did a great version. The reason that you know this song is because you did a reaction a year ago to the late great Roy Clark’s version. I knew you had done a version, but I actually thought it was Johnny Cash‘s version, but when I looked it up, Roy Clark popped up.
also listen to The Highwaymen version: Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings; Also a group called Ghost Riders in the Sky did the same song
Saw them open at a Day on the Green July 2, 1977, in Oakland followed by Santana, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Peter Frampton.. The Outlaws were called the 4 guitar army. They have a live album from 1977/1978 titled "Bring em back Alive" which was before they recorded "Ghost Riders" - some of their better songs "There Goes Another Love Song" , "Stick Around for Rock and Roll" and "Song in the Breeze"
Hughie Thomasson, Billy Jones, and Freddie Salem were the 3 lead guitarists with Hughie playing most of the hot leads. One of the most under-rate rock guitarists of all time, he also spent 10 years with Lynyrd Skynyrd. Those fast pickin' fingers earned Hughie the nickname The Flame.
Sadly I got to see Hughie Thomasson play one his final shows at the NYS Fair a month or so before he passed away. I got to see him play a few times prior including his stint with Skynyrd alongside Rickie Medlocke and Gary Rossington. I was able to catch one of Gary's picks. What a phenomenal show!!
I remember hearing an instrumental version of this on the radio in the car when I was really little, as we were driving home in the dark from Gram and Papa's house or somewhere. No words, but the melody was haunting. My mom told me the title and my imagination filled in the rest.
This song has been covered many times, this is one of the best. Johnny Cash also had a country hit with it. Even Dean Martin put it on an album his way.
The melody is based on one that has been used many times. A few examples being "When Johnny Comes Marching Home," "Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye/Ya," "Johnny Fill Up Your Bowl," "For Bales," and any number of which may be a parody of another, I forget. The first two listed are the most known.
Spent over an hour calling the local FM station, got through 4 hour's before the Halloween requests ended at midnight. They saved my request for the very last song.
Great band. I saw them open for Lynryd Skynyrd at the Calderone Theatre on Long Island. My ears were ringing for days. Also saw them headline at the Westbury Music Theatre . Just a tsunami of sound from all those beautifully played guitars.
Henry Paul left after the Hurry Sundown album, Freddie Salem replaced him, their sound started getting heavier. This was their last album to get a hit single off. IMO Outlaws were best with their more country sounding first 4 albums. Around 1983 me and a couple friends met them at their bus after a show at a small club, we shot the bull and Henry, who returned after he put out 4 Henry Paul Band albums, brought a bottle of wine from the bus and passes it around. Cool bunch of guys.
Harri Its well known recently from the 2007 western horror movie Ghost Rider starring Nicholus Cage. But to boomers when we were kids a famous singer Peggy Lee did a popular version in 1949 every kid that ever wanted to be a cowboy remembers that Haunting tune. its a great composition and incredibly dramatic.
The sons of the pioneers did a version and the brothers 4 did a version and the ventures did an instrumental version talk about great guitars they did Hawaii 5-0 in 1967! Enjoy those versions and keep up the good work.
Hey Miss B. This is a fantastic song I just love it. I’m not sure if I’ve heard this version or if it was Johnny Cash or someone else, but it sure rocks! You have great taste❤ Great reaction Harri.✌️
Hi Harri. For a different take on this song (and I didn't see it mentioned in the comments) is Geoff Castellucci's recent remake of this one - it's unbelievably awesome! 🙂❤Doesn't have quite the sense of urgency as this one, but does sound more menacing.
The best summation of this version of this song....starts off in a trot, turns into a gallop, then goes into a full on stampede....the Florida guitar Army....The Outlaws.🎼🎶🎵🎸🎵
This one brings me back to my Dad's old Ford pickup... heading out to do some fishing. Just me and him... his dog between us. My Pop loved Southern Rock. Thanks my friend. 🍻👍🏽
Another great cover of this immortal classic from the late '40s, and probably the most Rockin' version. Love the guitars!! Many artists have covered this song, however I still prefer the Gene Autry version from '49 the most, which he covered in his movie Riders in the Sky. It's a classic.
Great reaction Harri I know there are many versions of this song...however The Outlaws give you the guitar army that adds a bit of zest Love and Music 🎵💜🎶✌️
You done Green Grass and High Tides a while back and these boys never did get the respect and credit they deserved . And nobody could ever touch them on doing this cover of that song .

Sounds like fun. Must have a wonderful Hubby.
awesome
I have no doubt, he nearly died keeping it a secret 😂
Its an old country song from the 40s pretty much every generation of country artists has produced one or more versions.

Believe it or not, Elvis did it in a rehearsal before. There's his version on one of his many live albums. There's a youtube video out there.
I've always been partial to Burl Ives' version, also from way back then.
@@stratocruising beat me to it.
Believe it or not, Riders on the Storm by The Doors started out from a jam session of this song.

Great live act. When I saw them in the late 70’s they used to tour with the biggest rock bands of the time. The “Florida Guitar Army”.
Saw them open at a Day on the Green July 2, 1977, in Oakland followed by Santana, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Peter Frampton.. The Outlaws were called the 4 guitar army. This song has been covered by a lot of artists over the decades.
If you saw the old Marvel film "Ghost Rider" with Nicholas Cage, this song was the end credits theme covered by Spiderbait.
The guitar army out of Jacksonville Florida. Saw them in concert and in 1980 and was blown away.
No they were from Tampa. I lived there and knew them
Classic pick, Miss Blondie!!!
Glad you liked it 🎶✌️🎵
Saw them with Skynyrd at the Oakland coliseum in 1977. Incredible Day on the Green!!!
I was there too, all 4 bands were great!
The very quintessence of badass.
Check out "Green Grass and High Tides" live 1978.
That was what I originally wanted
Harri reacted to it already
Amazing song
@@missblondie2393 Thanks, just caught on to Harri recently, I didn't know, maybe he can listen to "Girl from Ohio".

This is a very old song. That’s why it sounds familiar. Done by lots of people.
Hughie Tomlinson such epic fast hands , totally underrated

I have heard it by these guys, my favorite version by Johnny Cash, it was also in the movies Ghost Rider and Blues Brothers 2000
It probably sounds familiar because you did a great reaction to Roy Clark doing an instrumental cover of this song.
This must be an a.m. radio version of the song. There's a 20 minutes long version.
Strongly suggest their song, "Green Grass And High Tides".
Ah, nevermind. I see you listened to that one last year.
Ron Keel covers this on his South by South Dakota album....they even throw in the famous "Green Grass and High Tides" lick.... Great version.
This song takes me back and what a great version this one is. Thanks Miss Blondie and Harri. 💞
Oh Wow I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed this version Diane
It definitely brings back memories
🎵💜🎶
Roy Clark and Glen Campbell did a great version.
I thought it was Harri that did a reaction to Roy Clark’s live instrumental version.
@@tracyfrazier7440 maybe… so many out there.

The song was an inspiration on/for The Doors song "Riders On The Storm" according to Manzarek & Kreiger.
This was in Blues Brothers 2000, covered by the Blues Brothers :)
Great video as always Harri
You might remember this song from the movie Ghost Rider .
One slight criticism. They omitted the verse that was the whole moral to the song "... cowboy change your ways today , or with us you will ride..."
Great band. I saw them open for Lynryd Skynyrd at the Calderone Theatre on Long Island. My ears were ringing for days. Also saw them headline at the Westbury Music Theatre . Just a tsunami of sound from all those beautifully played guitars.
This was originally done by Vaughn Monroe in the late 1940's on RCA. It was the first 45 RPM record ever released.
I remember this song from seeing them play the Bayfront Center in St Pete Florida. Them and Molly Hatchet. What a show
Love Molly Hatchet, I actually requested them and Harri did it a few months ago
"Flirtin With Disaster"
So perfectly done !! OUTLAWS FOREVER !!
Recorded many time but has always been my favorite version.
I love the song and it's history... but the funniest part was reading that closed captioning!
Thanks for keeping great music alive!
Hari the new lighting arrangement looks 100% better, I have to say. My compliments. 🙂
Love this! I saw these guys live when they opened for Skynrds last tour before the plane crash. Talk about a show.

The movie The Blues Brothers… on TV Roy Clark on Hey Haw and a duet with Glenn Campbell. Fabulous guitarists.
Nicolas Cage movie , Ghost Rider
I think that music has been in every western since the 50s..lol
Hurry sundown, green grass and high tides, there goes another lovesong - three other good songs by them.
Because this song has been recorded by a lot of singers. Because it is a great song.
It was first released in 1948. It's been is several movies including the Blues Brothers.

The song was released in 1949 by Burl Ives. It's been done by God knows how many others.
the movie ghost rider with nick cage

I was thinking he did it too. I was thinking it was a Roy Clark live instrumental in Branson.
Great version in the Blues Brothers. Don't remember if it's BB1 or BB2.
it's been in alot of movies and shows, it was in the movie Ghostrider with Nick Cage
I have heard this from a few artists Johney Cash did a good version of it but in my opinion This version from the Outlaws is the best.

Harry, this is an old Johnny Cash song!! Plus is been covered many times!!
I think the movie's Ghost Rider but this song's probably been in several movies several
it was in the blues brothers 2000 movie
I'd say Clint Eastwood considering the Spaghetti Western vibes
Happy Trails. 69 Dodge Charger R T. 🛣️🌄🤙
Johnny Cash sang it
You have in the movie Ghost Rider, a Nicolas Cage movie
Same who did green grass and high tides
Lorne Green did a pretty good version of this too - showing my age
Johnny Cash did this same song.
There was a Nicholas Cage of the same title in the 90s!
Hughie and Billy were the best combo for the Outlaws. Both gone to soon.
