I just want everyone to know with this video that this is strictly an analysis of the game itself and the horror elements used within it. I in no way support the developers and their past actions, nor do I support the selling of NFTs. This is a clarification I wanted to make because these were honestly things I wasn't aware of the devs doing at the time of posting this, and I worry that people may take this video the wrong way in the future. I'm choosing to try and separate art from its creators in this game's case, as I still appreciate what went into this first chapter, and I hope you can all understand and respect my decision to do so.
I completely understand. I really, REALLY love the game itself, as it's one of the few that have actually given me slight panic just _watching_ the vent chase sequence. It's disappointing that the dev(s) have made awful decisions in the past. But it seems they've gotten greedy, and don't even have any respect for their own horror character (using Huggy Wuggy in their child-targeted animations).
@@eineatombombe Basically, they bullied an innocent animator, Ekrcoaster, which nearly made him commit to taking the stairway to heaven, if you get what I mean. They had a seperate channel based on Cinema Sins where they made "Everything Wrong With" videos, and the innocent guy's animations were ripped apart, and not just as a mean joke. They made rude comments on his channel behind the scenes. Might be more to the story, but this is what I know.
One other thing worth mentioning is the fact that after you drop the box and Huggy falls into the pit, you notice he left a couple of blood pools on the pipes which he had hit. This makes you wonder what this creature really is and how the hell it lost blood even though it looks like some kind of a robot or animatronic if you will. It made at least me, start interpeting Huggy more as a live entity and that fact can truly be scary, especially if you start wondering HOW and WHY it is alive
Nothing is scarier than something that should not bleed, doing exactly that. The way the game sets up Huggy's reveal make it seem like he's part of the "security system" of the place, nothing more than a machine, and when you get the realization that it may be more than that, the whole chase sequence becomes even more terrifying
@@_12k70 yeah that's exactly what I wanted to say. The feeling you get when a thing that seemed lifeless starts behaving just like something alive is one of the creepiest experiences you can get
You could have the scariest character visual design in the world, but if the way it moves in a lack luster way, or is framed incorrectly it's easy to mess up. Huggys design on his own is not the most unsettling, he's a lanky blue dude with teeth, but God dammit the way he looms above you at his introduction, sauntering languidly, and the way he chases you through the vents? Simply masterful character design and animation.
Let's also not forget about the fact that during the fall, Huggy hits a few pipes. This monster that lured you into the vents and chased you down is now falling like a pathetic little ragdoll. Hitting a few pipes makes his fall look a bit more pathetic and comical, adding a sort of punchline to the chase like it's one bizarre and dark joke.
Yeah, it really feels like the fear you experienced is enhanced because of how it all felt like one big joke, you literally ran for your life Pim vs Forest Demon style and at the end it's treated like a joke, it isn't triumphant but insulting that the small string your life tightroped on is nothing but a joke to the outside forces.
I also love how when you first see him move, he does so slowly while his upper body sways back and forth. Once he’s in the vents, he has so much to grab onto to pull himself forward, thus making him ten times faster than he is out in the open.
I think another reason that it's so scary is the genuine surprise that the monster that towered over you moments before, is now sprinting through the vents, a place you would assume your safe
I was waiting for someone else to mention that, when I saw him in the vent I freaked out so bad, the vents perfectly fit you, it felt safe, too small for huggy (especially since I forgot the chapter title) then hes in the vents, fucking horrifying
@@themarkgrayson I think it’s less scary if you were like me and saw the title and had it in my mind the whole time so when I saw the vent I knew what was coming. Don’t get me wrong it was still terrifying for someone who thought about the chapter title it feels more expected
@@themarkgrayson yea I was constantly wondering what it meant by tight squeeze, my anxiety didn’t help. Was even worse when I noticed huggy watching me in the room where you get the right hand. In summary I don’t think a person that is good at noticing small details but also has anxiety and paranoia (me) should be playing horror games
the vent segment honestly terrifies me more than id have ever thought and the lore seems really really interesting but i can't continue to support this game with the creators making nfts
Yeah I gotta say I can't blame you. I wanted to keep the discussion about nfts out of the video itself since it's supposed to shed light on the horror side of it, but I find the developers selling nfts to be the worst decision they could have made.
@@Pastraspechonestly valid it's a really nice and breakdown for the vent chase and it's really interesting to see why something is so scary to us i don't blame you for not going on a rant about nfts lmao
@@rooka4 The issue comes from the fact that it affects more than the person selling them, computer components, especially graphics cards, have skyrocketed in price thinks to crypto in the past few years, which makes it harder and harder for entrée level computers to fall into peoples hands, and the environmental impact is devastating, just 1 decent crypto farm consumes more power than entire countries, running these gpus at max power 24/7 to gain a profit and for context, nfts relate to crypto because nfts are sold and stored using Ethereum, a form of crypto currency
Something I encountered after I beat Huggy, was satisfaction, but also kind of a sense of dread. The only way back is gone, on top of all the arrows telling you not to go the way you did, possibly due to some grander threat than even the noodle boy behind you. I don’t think what happened next was super scary, but it was a unique feeling that only really happens when you lose your way out, that I think was pretty cool.
2:27 Thank you for pointing this out, and I hope future game creators listen to this part, because I hate cutscenes that take control away from the player for no reason. They just make the game feel clunky, and... frustrating.
Now that I think about it, though, a cutscene showing huggy getting off the pedestal or(right before the chase sequence) showing him walking down the hallway, growing his teeth. Idk, thought it sounded cool
I’d love to see more games that do this, because forcing the player to figure out what they’re supposed to do instead of forcing the camera in a general direction after a cutscene is just a lot scarier because it leaves you panicking.
The vent chase feels like part of a horror movie with the sudden introduction of the threat, the music, the claustrophobia, and the climactic fall of the monster. Perfect
Personally, I think the scariest part of Poppy Playtime is that it has no jumpscares until near the end. When I first saw it, I though it was a pretty decent looking fnaf rip off that would be full of unsettling toys trying to kill you, and some part of the game are pretty predictable, but it did an amazing job leading up to the chase scene and I genuinely wasn't expecting it to happen. Obviously the jumpscare has that problem that all of them do where it becomes less scary every time, but it was still great.
something i like about the enemy design is how it moves so naturally and lifelike. the animations are ridiculously smooth and it gives off that ragdoll kinda feeling really well, and it makes the creature feel a lot more realistic
These videos are so high quality and impressive, and the thumbnail art is amazing dude. You deserve all of the publicity you’re getting an more. Keep up the good work!
Exactly! When I clicked on one of his videos, I expected copper and found diamond. His video essays are so well scripted and thought out, his editing is amazing... Really glad I got his channel recommended to me lol. So high quality like you said, he easily deserves many more subscribers!
Huggy might be one of the scariest horror game monsters I've seen in a long time. I know taking a plush toy and giving it teeth isn't a new concept but his design being honestly really adorable makes it all the scarier when he comes to life with black eyes and razors for teeth. The way he moves with dangling limbs and how he crawls through the vents like a squid or an octopus moving with its tentacles is so offputting
No horror game since fnaf has caught me off guard and made me genuinely flinch each death as much as poppy playtime. It's honestly incredible. I hope the later chapters live up to this
I think his movement is the scariest and most unique thing about him. I don't think I've ever seen a video game character move in such a fluid, realistic way. There's almost no seams to his animations despite how "stiff" and plastic-y the rest of the game feels and it makes him UNCOMFORTABLY uncanny. The vent scene genuinely scared me in a way a video game hasn't before, especially when you first see him. Eesh.
Something else I want to mention is the jumpscare. This might be the best jumpscare I have seen in a horror game. It's loud, it's sudden, and it's terrifying. Huggy grabs you, and simply devours you with surprising detail. The saliva, the multiple rows of teeth, and the sound of his roar as he finally gets his first meal in over a decade.
Why are people saying Poppy Playtime is a copy of Fnaf and Batim? I don't really see the similarities except for similar gameplay story, but other than that I don't really see it
@@customerservice1323 BATIM is also a puzzle horror game, with cartoon characters come-to-life. Poppy Playtime has a very similiar set-up, a puzzle horror game with toys come-to-life. It's also in a toy factory where the toys are made, like BATIM is in an animation studio where the cartoons were made. But that's not really an issue, games can be similiar. As long as they don't claim it as "completely original". But I've heard they've also taken inspiration from another guy's very unknown game, people who played it say it has most likely inspired MOB games. I believe Ekrcoaster made it, the same guy they've bullied. But don't quote me on this, there's a small chance I could remember wrong or have been lied to.
I looked it up a bit more, and I am deeply upset. Ekrcoaster's game, Venge, has been in existence for years, videos from 3 years ago show it's early development, and it's also about an abandoned building, belonging to some company or something that was at the top of the entertainment industry. Then people vanished. MOB games has for sure ripped him off, and are now making profit off of it. They have a history with him, trying to take him down and send hate. Darnit, we can't have nice things in this world.
I love the theme for this channel. You have something solid here and I am drawn in. Retrospectives and examinations of horror games are what I love. You did great with the fnaf vids and this one as well. I never even played this game and didn't know anything about it, but still enjoyed the video and now I wanna try the game for myself. I would love if one day you could cover games such as the Dead Space trilogy, Bioshock, Subnatica and more. Another idea I think would be great as if you made videos about specific characters as well and why they work so well. Character like The Big Daddy, Eddie Gluskin, and more, would make for a great watch. Keep up the good work.
Agreed; I really like the analysis on different elements and what makes them scary. I'm not even a game designer, I'm just a writer whose current primary project is a horror series, and I grew up really sheltered in terms of horror content, so I've spent the past several years since the project took hold trying to make up for lost time. Learning how and why scares work in all sorts of storytelling, even if it's in a medium that I'm not able to use, gives me tools to work with and make my work better
If the developers weren’t so hungry for money then I would have appreciate the game more. I actually knew about this game a few months before it’s release (I was watching animation sins, zamination and enchantedmob) but what maked me hate this game is the fact that it’s creators were some money hungry you tubers that were making content for literal 5 year olds. If this game was released in 2020 I would have liked the game. And also this is literally everything but a scary game
@@semidecent4395 Just the vibes it can give can creep people out. I live in fear everytime I play scary games cause I think a jump-scare is gonna happen every time I go into a new room but idk ig. I can watch people play things but the moment I play it myself, I'm a completely different person 😭
@@semidecent4395 next thing you're gonna tell me is that Resident Evil isn't a horror game because every aspect, including the combat, is essentially one giant puzzle
Thank you! Everyone i see complaining about this game keeps saying that “this game isn’t scary” and “nothing happens until the very end!!!” But that completely ignores the fact that this game feels like its not scary because it went viral! So people have watched DOZENS of playthroughs by now or played it multiple times themselves! If you’re watching jurassic park, do you immediately restart it once its over? No! You do something else and the movie probably sits at the back of your mind to stew for a bit. The reason why the puzzles are so easy and the big scary moment happens at the end is because the dramatic tension is supposed to be building as you move through the facility. The audience knows this is a horror game, the main menu shows huggy so we can make the connection to not trust the giant blue thing. We immediately see huggy in the first room we unlock. We Know not to trust it so we’re constantly on edge. Then it disappears, reaffirming this mistrust. Throughout the level you can see huggy as he stalks you on your journey. He could potentially be around any corner so the player is constantly on edge as they solve the puzzles to keep moving forward. These puzzles have to be simple tho, as one: its a tutorial for the mechanics, and two: if they were too complicated, the player might become so focused on them that they will forget about the potential danger of huggy lurking nearby. That sense of dread needs to be maintained for the end to have as heavy an impact as it carries. The final puzzle before the vents is a bit more complex than the other puzzles. Its supposed to be the place where you use everything you’ve learned throughout the game so far. When i say more complex, i mean it requires a few more steps to solve than the others do. Once you’ve solved it, theres a slow ass scene where the machine builds your toy and you can watch. This is crucial because its the only moment in the game where the player is allowed to become so distracted by whats going on that they forget about the threats waiting for them. After all of that, the huggy chase begins. And that’s where the video above’s analysis comes in. Its a brilliant use of player’s expectations to create a truly unnerving experience. But because its been played so many times, people aren’t as surprised because thise expectations have changed. If you know that you’re safe until the very end, then it stops being interesting. Like how in until dawn, two if the characters literally cannot die until the very end of the game. No decision those two characters make are lethal, and so you can potentially make ANY decision. Makes it feel less important to weigh those decisions right? That’s why it’s important to keep these things in mind when criticizing something. How much of it is actual good faith criticism and howmuch is just you accidentally ruining the experience for yourself and getting mad at the game for it?
Another part I liked is the tension and buildup, at the start of the game when Huggy decides to start his hunt we as the player are on our toes because this basically confirmed Huggy was out in the open and that he could be wherever you were at that moment, you couldn't turn a corner without the thought of him popping up but for most of the game Huggy wasn't present, when I first watched a playthrough of the game I was on edge because I knew Huggy was out there and could literally pop up at any given moment and kill the player but when the 30-minute mark hit and he didn't make his entrance I was lured into a false sense of security that maybe he would appear at the very end of the chapter as a cheap jumpscare but boy was I proven wrong, and I love how the mission objective got reversed when he made his entrance, the thing you were doing for 15 minutes in order to escape the facility was all for not because it just segwayed into his chase.
it’s so weird because the factory or building, whatever it is, has this weird dreamlike feeling, architecture and color variety about it that i feel like i’ve seen in a dream before, it’s so weird because i feel like i’ve been there. it’s lonely, dark and quiet without anyone there but at the same time feels somewhat comfortable, and the natural lighting is well enough for it not to be too dark. this game is great, i can’t wait to see where it goes.
I've been into horror games for years and I must admit, the chase sequence is so well-made. There isn't really anything scary prior to the chase, nor is there anything to foreshadow Huggy suddenly emerging from the shadows. The sudden start makes it intense instantly and with the noises and how the game works, it feels like he's always close to you. With how the vents are made, you never know whether you've ran into a dead end or not and the final sequence keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very last moment. Simply exquisite.
As someone who is claustrophobic, I agree that the vent chase is horrifying. It's also unexpected. A lot of horror games would have you get scared by Huggy and then go and hide and then you're good! No, he keeps coming. He breaks through every door. He is HELLBENT on making sure you die. I love that.
I don't know about you but when I watched Markiplier play after the end of the chase I constantly kept thinking "it might be far away now but it will eventually find it's way"
While personally I wasn’t scared at any point while playing poppy playtime in my own play through. This helps me get why so many people found it terrifying, great analysis
fantastic video. it doesnt waste my time and gets straight to the point, while being extremely well written and understandable. also the thumbnail caught my attention. you’re a really underrated youtuber and i have faith you will get big man. keep doing what you’re doing
Especially that closed door for a moment part, that part really makes it so stressful and then it opens but *slowly* while Huggy is at full speed moving to you.
It's cool how the first chapter is structured in such a way that there's no moment in which tension and the anticipation of an attack is not being brewed. When you start the game, exploring the corridors, you know its a horror game, and the intro is fresh in your mind, so you're on your toes. When you see Huggy, you keep your eyes on him, knowing that it's almost inevitable that it /won't/ make a move like the soul-eating thing it is. When he dissapears, that sickening feeling is even worse. Overall, the game keeps a pretty solid grasp on the attention of the player. Would play again :)
It′s really too bad that Poppy Playtime got into NFTs. If it hadn′t done that greedy mistake, I think the game would be in a much better spot with it′s fanbase and hype status. Now it′s gained a permanent critical eye when it should′ve had a more open view like most new horror games should have, and I′ve seen lots of cynicism for it because of it. Major props to you for being positive about it despite everything! Seeing as the rest of your videos are also positive, I hope that′ll be a theme in your videos, because after seeing Theft King complain so damn much about Security Breach (his videos are still good, but it′s practically EVERY VIDEO), and so much complaining about SB and FNaF in general, it′s great to see some positivity!
Another thing that i like about the chase scene is that Huggy Wuggy’s movement patterns imply that he’s not as Beastly as he seem. When the chase starts, he’s very slowly walking towards you almost as if he knows you can’t do anything against him. But when you get to the vent he starts Speeding up.which makes you panic thinking “Why is he so Fast!?,wasn’t he slow!?” And the. When the player is cornered he again slowly comes towards you almost sadistically
Alright look, I support Poppy Playtime because it’s an actual high quality game with great potential, it’s reputation just got ruined by a few of the developers and marketing team. People don’t know this, but the Mob Entertainment Team is actually really big and a majority of the developers are actually really passionate people and care about their community. I’m not gonna undermine the efforts of everyone involved just because of some a-hole developers. I could name several companies who have done way worse things and still have beloved games- *cough cough* Nintendo *cough cough*
"running through a small area while being chased by a monster, all while a blaring soundtrack is behind you, scared me in a way I didnt think imaginable. Wheatley: wha- but I did that a bloody decade ago! This is madness!
What scared me about the chase was how cramped the vents feel. You're practically stuck between very close walls and feel like you keep bumping into them, which only slows you down. It creates a claustrophobic environment, which is the last place you want to be when running for your life.
When you pull the box on top of huggy, you can see on the metal pipes he falls on have his blood on it after falling on them like huggy was an actually alive creature instead of a toy.
I can respect this game for doing exactly what your most afraid of happening. Just as your super tense and afraid of getting ambushed by the creature at any turn, you get jump-scared at the end of the corridor, get chased through a tight and confusing vent system, and survival seems impossible with Huggy rapidly approaching. It's a nightmare scenario, and I haven't seen many games with the balls to put players in the worst and most stressful situation possible. In opinion, the only thing worse than being surprised is having your worst fears confirmed
I think we should also mention how throught almost the entire game if you look at certain areas for example when you are going through the hallway to get to the room for the red hand you see huggys arm and if you look behind you you'll see him slither away and also during when you just get into the red room when you get to the thing that needs 4 of those white squares huggy is staring at you but it closes shortly after
My favorite part of the chase is when Huggy falls. You see him leave blood on the pipes, and you even hear him let out a bloodcurdling scream. But it's not like a jumpscare scream. It's a scream of fear. As you stare down at him, the realization that he's not just an evil monster...he's a living thing...hits you like a punch in the gut, and you start to feel guilty. But then you remember what he tried to do to you. As you walk down the catwalks, you start wondering what Huggy is and why he's so organic rather than a robot. And there's even a VHS tape at the end which gives you more clues as to the lore of these characters. And then just like that, the game ends. You're left contemplating about the secrets behind the factory, and this might even make you play it again to see everything you missed. It's just a brilliant way to keep peoples' eyes on your game.
If I’m being honest, I kinda view Poppy Playtime like the new Bendy and the ink machine. I mean the way the stories start are executed perfectly (and kinda play out the same way). Poppy Playtime brought me back to 2017 when Bendy’s 1st chapter came out, it made me feel very nostalgic
This video was great! I could just feel the effort put into it, and i know that you enjoyed making it. Essay-style videos on why things are scary are some of my favourite videos. (there are a bunch of analyses about the fnaf games) I have one peice of constructive critisicm, and it is that i feel like the transisions between the segments could be a bit improved. The first one to the vent chase was good. but the titlecard stood there a bit to long. The same thing can be said about the one to the chase, and i also feel like the previous segment ended a bit wierdly, the final sentance was said like it was in the middle of something. Other than that, everything else was perfect. Good video!
I love it for its sense of dread. I know everyone and their mother had talked about why jump scares are bad but Poppy’s “jump scares” are so natural that I can’t help but love. There’s no scene of the monster screaming at you, no loud noises, and no cutscene, the monster shows up, and it’s almost unnatural how…. Normal the chase scene is. There’s a score that plays but that’s IT. There’s just this monster and there’s no time to waste so you just need to run.
i love the enthusiasm in your voice in all ur videos! regardless if its put on or not, (if so, from a content creator standpoint, totally understandable!) it really sounds like you not only love what you do, but have a love for whatever topic you are covering :)
My sister and I played the game and we died so many times at the vent chase. We’re always screaming at eachother to go left or right. It was truly horrifying and after so many tries, when we got out we didn’t see the box which made us die and having to go through that hell all over again.
i'm gonna be honest, i'm not good at horror games, not necessarily because of a lack of skill but just because i'm too afraid to do the stuff i'm asked to do. that's why i usually watch people play the horror game instead of playing them for myself because i know i'm too much of a pussy to play them. poppy playtime was one of those games and despite the fact that i was watching somebody play the game for me, i still felt indescribable fear with every second that passed by in the vents, knowing something was off about them. i knew something scary was gonna happen with those vents. then the vent chase happened and again, despite knowing that i'm just watching somebody play it, i felt a suffocating amount of panic in a way that no other game i played could make me feel. i felt wave after wave of fear hit me every time the player looked back to see huggy wuggy chasing them, every time the player's running slowed down and huggy wuggy just got closer. the end with the box falling didn't help as just before the box hits the conveyer belt, huggy leaps out and tries to get to the player only to be hit and land on metal bars and leaving blood on them as he falls. since that first time watching the vent chase play out, i have watched countless other youtubers play this game and every single time, i feel the same amount of panic that i felt the first time and it's a scary feeling. i know what happens, i know how things are gonna end up now but even with that knowledge, with every new youtuber, the initial fear and panic i felt that first time never went away, it never got better. it stayed the same and i think that is what makes this game special in my mind. or maybe i got so scared of the gameplay it left me with permanent scars and a new-found fear of small spaces, who knows.
And Chapter 2 has implications he's still alive. Which is terrifying because he was enough already, but if he is still alive then that means that he's pissed.
And I’m gonna tell you. The vent chase is something I never thought would come out of nowhere (And it’s great for a game that only has one Chapter so far!)
Another neat element is the lead up to the vent chase. When we first see Huggy he's towering and has a slow lumbering walk as we back away from him. Once we get in the vents we feel safe for a moment thinking there's no way he could fit into such a small space, and even then we might outrun him. Only for us to pass a few grates and see Huggy compacted into the vent and sprinting through it in an unnatural, almost Exorcist like position. At that point panic sets in as you realize you're dealing with something fast, aggressive, and lacking the limits of normal biology.
I hate how similar poppy playtime is with bendy and the ink machine. They both take place in abandoned factories, they both separate the game in chapters, they both have possessed monsters, and I could be missing some but they both make it so you have to learn the lore through tapes. I also recorded the bendy jumpscare sound effect and boosted its speed by 3.2 times the normal speed. Which sounds nearly identical to huggy wuggy’s jumpscare sound effect. Besides the controversies that involved MOB games/enchanted mob, the game itself is pretty well developed. Huggy wuggy has a pretty great design and is especially intimidating during the vent chase scene. Same goes with mommy long legs. I don’t support MOB games/enchanted mob but poppy playtime is a decent game on its own.
Well, I personally believe that the developers for the game itself are just trying their best to make the game good, while everyone else in the studio is just riding the hype way too much and being dumb.
As someone with claustrophobia and is terrified to play games with monsters chasing you, the vent chase gives me SO MUCH anxiety. And I never even played it myself
god dammit this game is beautiful and i absolutely hate how the developers ended up getting to the point they did, and what they did. it’s a masterpiece of a horror game, and it being reduced to NFTs, movie contracts, and other garbage they’ve done just makes me… disappointed.
I had to watch the chase hundreds of times before it lost the effect. First time i saw it, the sudden and fast movements (always had a fear of things running at me) just made me scream “nope”
when i first watched ur videos i thought u were a big account i didn't notice u were a smaller channel, i really like ur videos i watchted them while cleaning my room and getting ready bc it was perfect to listen to
I just discovered your channel, watched a few of your FNaF videos and... They are great! So is this one. I really like the style of your videos and the way you describe certain aspects of different games. Already subscribed. Keep up the good work!
I see a lot of people dismissing poppy playtime as a bendy and fnaf clone but I think their judging it too quickly. At the time of this comment there’s only two chapters so it’s not fair to say “there’s no story” because it hasn’t had a chance to explain the story. I personally don’t see anything “copied” from these games. Inspired, yes, but that doesn’t equal copied and there’s only so many ideas that can be used before there’s nothing new left that’s still effective. Having a slow first chapter isn’t copying bendy chapter one, it’s simply an idea that works well and so was recreated. I also think poppy does the slow start better than bendy because bendy showed its true colors fairly early on and kept you tense from the start. Poppy on the other hand made you start tense with the atmosphere, gave you time to get used to it, and only after you’d become relaxed and comfortable did it start the chase and it also didn’t start with a jump scare, huggy doesn’t lunge from the shadows he just causally walks through the doorway which I appreciate because it’s still jarring but not in your face like a normal jump scare. Even though the developers aren’t good people that doesn’t mean the game itself isn’t good, and indie horror doesn’t equal fnaf ripoff
I think the actually impresive thing about that scare is how the actual monster- Huggy, isn't creepy at all at least to me, not in the slightest by his looks. But even then they where somehow able to make him shocking.
Chapter 2 out in case you wanna do a follow up, and I can give one thing you could add in if you decide to do it, but I will try to keep some details vague as to not spoil it After the ████ █ █████ challenge, you find yourself at a closed gate with a lever on the wrong side, but before you can do anything, the lights start flickering and a familiar siren starts playing as an all to familiar silhouette begins appearing as everyone who has played chapter 1 begins having flashbacks to the first chase sequence. The part I wanna point out is the Sirens, why do they sound familiar, and why is it more important than it seems for such a simple sound? It’s because when we first encountered Huggy Wuggy, we immediately hear that exact siren going off, and while most of us do not realize it, we mentally made a connection between the siren and Huggy Wuggy. When that siren plays, we do not even see the threat, we don’t know if the treat is Huggy Wuggy, we don’t even know if it IS a threat to begin with, but regardless, that tiny detail helps bring back the fear from when we first saw him Vietnam Flashback style for everyone that had the chapter 1 chase mentally seared into their mind Such a small detail goes a long way
Part of me would like to see Pastra do a review (similar to the two Bendy reviews) for the entirety of Poppy Playtime when the final chapter releases. Though considering how long it’ll probably be before the final chapter does in fact release, it won’t be for a while (if Pastra does decide to make it).
Its cool that you care. Keep the video up, your passion is infectious and really makes me look twice into a previous scene I thought was mundane!
What are they doing besides the NFTs? I'm not into this situation, can someone explain?
@@iclynnx bruh WHAT? That THING is not CHILD FRIENDLY
My theory turned out to be the same as matpats, we both have the idea that huggy and (others) are the security system that the factory uses.
The feeling you get when a thing that seemed lifeless starts behaving just like something alive is one of the creepiest experiences you can get
The only thing that matters is that It. Can. Bleed.
Are it's lips wet?
You could have the scariest character visual design in the world, but if the way it moves in a lack luster way, or is framed incorrectly it's easy to mess up. Huggys design on his own is not the most unsettling, he's a lanky blue dude with teeth, but God dammit the way he looms above you at his introduction, sauntering languidly, and the way he chases you through the vents? Simply masterful character design and animation.
If I’ve heard right, they animated his hands first and then animated his body
@@abject_sky1915 Don't the limbs move the same every time but the body just ragdolls behind?
This implies that waluigi would be terrifying if he moved in the correct manner.
for me its the eyes. staring gazes like that is one of my big phobias
On a few of those pipes he hits, interestingly enough, gets splattered with blood after he hits them.
Hehehehe... Bonk... Donk... Doink... Bomp...
@@Idontlikeanyonehere lol least you remembered tho I'm sure the paranoia sucked, in a good way
@@themarkgrayson yea I was constantly wondering what it meant by tight squeeze, my anxiety didn’t help. Was even worse when I noticed huggy watching me in the room where you get the right hand.
In summary I don’t think a person that is good at noticing small details but also has anxiety and paranoia (me) should be playing horror games
@@Idontlikeanyonehere never have I been happier to have god awful ADHD lmao
the vent segment honestly terrifies me more than id have ever thought and the lore seems really really interesting but i can't continue to support this game with the creators making nfts
Yeah I gotta say I can't blame you. I wanted to keep the discussion about nfts out of the video itself since it's supposed to shed light on the horror side of it, but I find the developers selling nfts to be the worst decision they could have made.
@@Pastraspechonestly valid it's a really nice and breakdown for the vent chase and it's really interesting to see why something is so scary to us i don't blame you for not going on a rant about nfts lmao
eh i dont really care if people sell nfts, they're stupid sure but its not my business
this sounds so dumb but what the fuck is an nft?? i hear about it sm but i still don’t understand lol
@@rooka4 The issue comes from the fact that it affects more than the person selling them, computer components, especially graphics cards, have skyrocketed in price thinks to crypto in the past few years, which makes it harder and harder for entrée level computers to fall into peoples hands, and the environmental impact is devastating, just 1 decent crypto farm consumes more power than entire countries, running these gpus at max power 24/7 to gain a profit
and for context, nfts relate to crypto because nfts are sold and stored using Ethereum, a form of crypto currency
2:27
Thank you for pointing this out, and I hope future game creators listen to this part, because I hate cutscenes that take control away from the player for no reason.
More of a Bendy ripoff tbh
something i like about the enemy design is how it moves so naturally and lifelike. the animations are ridiculously smooth and it gives off that ragdoll kinda feeling really well, and it makes the creature feel a lot more realistic
And I’d be scared shitless tryna run away if this ever happened IRL.
Poppy playtime may be some "discount Bendy" but I must admit, it’s still pretty spooky, especially when Huggy Wuggy chases you in the vents.
Why are people saying Poppy Playtime is a copy of Fnaf and Batim? I don't really see the similarities except for similar gameplay story, but other than that I don't really see it
@@customerservice1323 I could say the similarities, but the first comment on this vid says it all, so you might wanna find it.
@@iclynnx I would've been less upset if PP was trash and the company was greedy. But unfortunately, the dissonance is there and it's heartbreaking.
The Vent Chase is one of the best horror game chase scene out there. It’s really well crafted.
What do you mean "Anything but a scary game?" It was genuinely well made. You probably didn't even play it either.
@@spezkko the chase scene was scary, but the majority of the game is just puzzles
@@semidecent4395 Just the vibes it can give can creep people out. I live in fear everytime I play scary games cause I think a jump-scare is gonna happen every time I go into a new room but idk ig. I can watch people play things but the moment I play it myself, I'm a completely different person 😭
@@semidecent4395 well yea. The game is a puzzle game. Do you even pay attention?
The scariest thing of the game is the company sells NFT's and bullied an animator, even copying the other animators game.
@@marcusaaronliaogo9158 Yeah that shit sucks ass doesn't it. Not even actually scary just taints the whole game
@@mallk238 not really. Separate the art from the artist
@@SpringyGirl69 you can do that if you want, but it looks like the developers behind poppy playtime already did that :/
@@mallk238 oof
I don't know about you but when I watched Markiplier play after the end of the chase I constantly kept thinking "it might be far away now but it will eventually find it's way"
Old Pastra if they played something like Palworld: "This is the scariest game I've ever played."
While personally I wasn’t scared at any point while playing poppy playtime in my own play through. This helps me get why so many people found it terrifying, great analysis
I really enjoyed Bendy, so this game was very fun to me.
Yeah they have a very similar premise
fantastic video. it doesnt waste my time and gets straight to the point, while being extremely well written and understandable. also the thumbnail caught my attention. you’re a really underrated youtuber and i have faith you will get big man. keep doing what you’re doing
Pastra you're already starting to become a TH-camr I'll watch for years. Excellent video!
Especially that closed door for a moment part, that part really makes it so stressful and then it opens but *slowly* while Huggy is at full speed moving to you.
6:32 I love how he bangs the desk as he says fear
I’ve seen the chase more than a few times now and it still gets my heart pumping
One thing I could appreciate is the animation of huggy. Easpecially in the vents!
Seeing as the rest of your videos are also positive, I hope that′ll be a theme in your videos, because after seeing Theft King complain so damn much about Security Breach (his videos are still good, but it′s practically EVERY VIDEO), and so much complaining about SB and FNaF in general, it′s great to see some positivity!
the game was a cashgrab in the first place
I've just realized I've never seen this game on normal brightness setting. That's probably why I though it wasn't too scary XD
Another thing that i like about the chase scene is that Huggy Wuggy’s movement patterns imply that he’s not as Beastly as he seem. When the chase starts, he’s very slowly walking towards you almost as if he knows you can’t do anything against him.
But when you get to the vent he starts Speeding up.which makes you panic thinking “Why is he so Fast!?,wasn’t he slow!?”
And the.
This actually reminded me to go watch the chapter 2 trailer, thanks Pastra XD
No problem
"running through a small area while being chased by a monster, all while a blaring soundtrack is behind you, scared me in a way I didnt think imaginable.
Wheatley: wha- but I did that a bloody decade ago! This is madness!
What scared me about the chase was how cramped the vents feel. You're practically stuck between very close walls and feel like you keep bumping into them, which only slows you down. It creates a claustrophobic environment, which is the last place you want to be when running for your life.
Let’s not forget that the chase is very claustrophobic as well as creates a primal fear of you being the prey and Huggy as the predator
When you pull the box on top of huggy, you can see on the metal pipes he falls on have his blood on it after falling on them like huggy was an actually alive creature instead of a toy.
Nft’s. That’s how they scare us, with Nft’s and paying 5 bucks for half an hour of gameplay
NFTs really were the worst thing to ever happen weren't they? :(
I can respect this game for doing exactly what your most afraid of happening.
My favourite part of the chase is just how huggy ragdolls hard when he's falling
I remember when you were below 1000 subs! You have grown real quick! Good job at conquering the algorithm and keep up this amazing content!
Nice work! Super high quality. The vent scene is pretty scary, it doesn't help that the blue thing has longer limbs and is faster
So glad you covered such a little known game
i love the enthusiasm in your voice in all ur videos! regardless if its put on or not, (if so, from a content creator standpoint, totally understandable!) it really sounds like you not only love what you do, but have a love for whatever topic you are covering :)
You've got a great potencial to be a top youtuber in the horror genre. Keep going!
You’re gonna hit at least 400k with these quality videos.
I love how much exposure you have gotten in the past short while I hope when you become big you dont lose your ways
And I’m gonna tell you.
The vent chase is something I never thought would come out of nowhere
(And it’s great for a game that only has one Chapter so far!)
dude, if you upload good videos every like 2-7 days, my god you will blow up, keep up the good work!
This video is so high quality! Can't wait to see more from you.
Mom come pick me up, I've never been scared and uncomfortable like that since 2011...
Amazing video!
pastra you're on a roll! Great videos! Much support :D
Now that Chapter 2 is out, I’m excited what his analysis on it will be like!
Being chased is a primal kind of fear which you don't feel often
Humans should be chased more.
binged through all of your current videos, damn I love your vids, definitely gonna keep up with watching whatever next you release :3
The scariest thing in this game is mob studios
Well, I personally believe that the developers for the game itself are just trying their best to make the game good, while everyone else in the studio is just riding the hype way too much and being dumb.
As someone with claustrophobia and is terrified to play games with monsters chasing you, the vent chase gives me SO MUCH anxiety. And I never even played it myself
these analysis’ are really thoughtful and as a viewer i can tell took time to research
You’ve posted so many great videos in such a short time! Your doing amazing! I just binged all your videos keep it up 👍 😃😄
god dammit this game is beautiful and i absolutely hate how the developers ended up getting to the point they did, and what they did. it’s a masterpiece of a horror game, and it being reduced to NFTs, movie contracts, and other garbage they’ve done just makes me…
disappointed.
I had to watch the chase hundreds of times before it lost the effect. First time i saw it, the sudden and fast movements (always had a fear of things running at me) just made me scream “nope”
i am surprised you’re channel is this small! ur vids are great :>
when i first watched ur videos i thought u were a big account i didn't notice u were a smaller channel, i really like ur videos i watchted them while cleaning my room and getting ready bc it was perfect to listen to
I agree with everything he said here, dude, even if i’m not playing the game, this game scares the hell out of me.
Keep up the good work, you’re growing slowly but surely.
Chapter 2 out in case you wanna do a follow up, and I can give one thing you could add in if you decide to do it, but I will try to keep some details vague as to not spoil it
After the ████ █ █████ challenge, you find yourself at a closed gate with a lever on the wrong side, but before you can do anything, the lights start flickering and a familiar siren starts playing as an all to familiar silhouette begins appearing as everyone who has played chapter 1 begins having flashbacks to the first chase sequence. When that siren plays, we do not even see the threat, we don’t know if the treat is Huggy Wuggy, we don’t even know if it IS a threat to begin with, but regardless, that tiny detail helps bring back the fear from when we first saw him Vietnam Flashback style for everyone that had the chapter 1 chase mentally seared into their mind
Such a small detail goes a long way
I remember when I watched u play that scene. U were legit screaming. Was funny.
I'm sooooooo excited for the next chapter
😨The chase scene will always be iconic, its super terrifying and I am now scared of what will come out of my vents..😥
The scariest thing for me was when you go into a hallway and soms random gas "jumpscares" you, i did know every scare and forgot that one
I love the fnaf music in the background XD
Part of me would like to see Pastra do a review (similar to the two Bendy reviews) for the entirety of Poppy Playtime when the final chapter releases. Though considering how long it’ll probably be before the final chapter does in fact release, it won’t be for a while (if Pastra does decide to make it).
Fucking loving the channel so far, keep up the good work mate!
Why are all the video's that you made up to this point so fucking good they are absolutely amazing
Love your videos lad hoping to see more content
Also that is a hell of a post rate that’s a solid grind you’ve got going
Do you draw the art in your thumbnails yourself? They look really good, and I love the design of your character
