    I am impressed with your heuristic style in teaching - you speak to your audience with respect and a hint of humor, as I think was mentioned in another comment - great work with otherwise overwhelming detail - I would suggest an intermediate through advanced review of the features using a song in stereo - you are indeed, a rare teacher - an optimist ! Thank you...

    is there a way to edit the spectogram as you would edit a photo in photoshop using brushes? Id love to be able to "paint" sound effects.

      Try Spectral Layers.
      This subject ist very demending from a mathematical and algorithmic standpoint. Spectral Layers (and also others like Izotope, etc.) seem still somewhat in its infantstate.
      But yes, it is possible.
