    For those people who are using newer version of audacity:-
    1)Split stereo track to mono.
    2)Apply "Invert" to the bottom track.
    3)As your track is already in mono, you can simply go to "Tracks" menu and select "Mix and Render" that way you will get the same result.

  • @enemezhayesbaby6211
    @enemezhayesbaby6211 8 ปีที่แล้ว +38

    This all depends on how the song was mixed down, how heavily saturated with effects the vocals are. If there's a lot of reverb it will leave the tails behind. If your vocals are over compressed it won't completely remove them as it only removes the center channel along with drum kicks etc you CAN NOT completely remove vocals from every song.

    As others have commented the options have changed slightly in newer versions of audacity. I don't fully understand the principles behind these edits, but i believe I have duplicated the effect in this video by choosing Split stereo track to mono, in place of split stereo track. Once the tracks are split and mono, inverting the bottom track created a similar effect to the one displayed here in the video. As others have said, in different music (hip hop for example) the additional distortion was far beyond my ability to fix or compensate for.

      Tomas Corvidea make sure you don't re-stereo the tracks. Keep both mono, unless it just so happens that you happened to be working on a pseudo-stereo track, which essentially means that it's two mono tracks made into a stereo track with minor changes to one of the channels. A pseudo-stereo track will not work using this method.

    to the peeps who don't have the option to do mono. you do, bu it's just not automatic and you have to make it mono manually.
    Underneath the mute and solo button,
    there is a volume option and underneath that volume option, is an option that
    tells whether you want to make this track for the left ear or the right ear.
    What you should do is, instead of each side being right and left, you put the node that tells
    whether it's left ear or right ear, you put it in the middle for both tracks. that's technically mono.

There is a mixer that remixes Michael Jackson songs and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t have the original demos and songs unless they’ve been released to the public as bonus material. I am a MJ TH-camr and would love to break down his songs . But here is an example:

      If you have the new Audacity just go in Effects and click Vocal Remover way at the bottom - you don't need to do the split tracks mono thing, etc. Also, I think now Audacity does the split track in one step - click Split Track to Mono - if you want to try to do it the way in the video. That's what I did and then followed the rest of his instructions and it worked.

I can still hear the vocals, but barely. I only did this for part of a song I thought need some work or improvement not the entire song though unless you are going for that.

      This effect works based on canceling out vocals that are in the center of the track. It splits the stereo track and inverts the phase of one side, then makes it mono to cancel out everything in the center. If the vocals has any effects on it, such as reverb, it won't be possible to remove them. Also backup vocals can't be removed since they are typically panned left or right.

    This must be the right place to ask the audacity question…. If it’s a complete MONO track (recorded from voicememo on a iphone), what can be done to lessen someone’s unintended high pitched whisper? Please share steps if known

    • @MikeRussell
      @MikeRussell  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely! In Audacity, you can use the Equalization effect to tame high frequencies and the Noise Reduction tool to help reduce unintended whispers in a mono track recorded from an iPhone Voice Memo. Just select the portion with the whisper, capture a noise sample, and apply noise reduction with caution to maintain audio quality.

    Brilliant!! I have a three hour audio with Mr. A saying a 5 second sentence, and the audience repeating the sentence. This goes on for thousands of short sentences along the length of the video.
    Is there an automatic way in which I can remove the sound of the audience and retain only Mr. A's part of the audio clip?
    I am currently trimming the audience part out manually, but as I experienced, it too me 2 hours to trim audience repeats for about 7 minutes of the audio file. An automated way would be great.

But it´s luckyli kind of instrumental song so it´s OK. Again thanks for the lesson - this is my first atempt in Audacity (and it was sucessfull I thing). :-)
