the carnival would be the safe bet for me. I wouldn't worry about part prices and I feel like it would be cheaper to run, for a longer time and probably more reliable too. but I'm guessing. this thing looks small too, which is probably a good thing for urban areas/parking etc. hopefully it pushes carnival prices down. depending on the application, you can also get an older hiace with a V6 or 4WD.
They got three things wrong with the powertrain: - Diesel (no good for city driving w/ modern emissions tech) - DSG (still not good enough compared to a torque converter) - front wheel drive (wheel slip).
