I really like this UI, would it work on the new private server Hero's Journey?
A dozen MMOs have crossed my keyboard since 1999. EQ, WoW, AOC, Aion...more and more. No game--repeat--*no game* have I played that filled me with such fear as EQ. Moving through Lower Guk to join a group, watching my invis spell wearing off, knowing if the frogs see me, I am dead and the group cannot come to my help. Corpse run would be a nightmare! *OH THANK GOD THEY DIDN'T SEE ME!* The absolute terror of crossing Kithicor Forest at night. I still have PTSD. And making it back to my home city (Qeynos), and the *profound* feeling of relief. I made it. I'm safe. Why do devs not understand this is what we want? Sure, do a quest at level 5 and get a full epic set. Be one of 10,000 others with your flaming sword and armor of levitation. ...or... Plead with a raid to allow you to tag along. All you want is the NO DROP guts from the end boss dragon for your bard's epic weapon. You'll play your heart out. You won't ask for anything else. Please, please, please!
Thank you for this, it was very interesting!
You aren't the only one. Im 22 Playing a 25 year old eq. Mostly stick to emus but still cool to see (:
Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllyyy long winded way to say everything other than OG EQ sucks. And it does. So long as any of that shite masquerades as _New and Improved Everquest_ with, and this is my favorite, _Quality of Life,_ changes/add-ons, it will be shit, and I’ll die on that hill. It’s WoW or EOS, not EQ.
Signed up for project 1999. Admins never sent email for verification.. tried with two email accts. Would be nice to join in.
I started reading this series few days ago.Mistborn is my first book in fantasy genre. I am now reading the second book and almost at the end and really enjoying it. Looking forward to your thoughts on it.
@@animarko4354 that’s awesome! I’ll be making a review of the 2nd one soon. Almost done with the 3rd!
I love Mistborn! Another amazing series by Brandon Sanderson is the Stormlight Archive!
Love your EQ vids, decided to get on Quarm and having a great time so far. What UI are you using here, I am using DuxaUI, but I like the way the actions window looks on this one.
That's awesome! I'm using Nillipus UI, it requires zeal, but it's the best one I've found.
Man, everyone forgets about The Al'Kabor Project :( Great server, locked at PoP, allows three boxing. Really simple install process compared to some of the others.
Has Quarm fix the inverted mouse issue? sadly that was the thing that turned me away after the first couple of weeks, I just couldn't get used to it.
yep! Zeal fixed just about all of that.
I started playing EQ in summer of 2000, just after Kunark was released. I have played it off and on for many years, but recently completely came back to it. It feels so comfortable, even though it is much harder than newer MMOs, but that is the charm imo. My first Crush Bone Train to zone line and group wipe after coming back made me laugh so hard as it brought back so many great memories with friends from the early days. I think the thing I like the most is the community, because the game is so hard and unforgiving it tends to attract mature / helpful players and turns away the more obnoxious type of online players. When I say mature I do not necessarily mean older, as you are a perfect example of that. There are plenty of older 'children' out there as we all know too well if you play any online game. I agree with other commenters here, it is nice to see younger players who also love this incredible game. I have met many since coming back. Happy you and your dad both play and can have those EQ stories together.
Take turnip.
step 1: be druid
Good video but I’m sad to see all the love for Project Quarm, but no love for TAKP, of which quarm is a fork. TAKP is a great community - 3 box allowed so you can get a bit of the Baldur’s Gate Quest experience while still meeting and grouping with other players. It also taught me a ton about how groups can coordinate and classes can interact with each other.
For the first time I am playing on a TLP (Oakwynd) for more than the span of 1 krono and raiding and doing content I never did on live and now, moving forward starting Thursday, doing content i was not even actively subbed when it came out. There are still 5-8 guilds still raiding on the server, and it is a lot of fun. My guild is always recruiting and I will stream our raids on occasion. We are highly social and I haven't had this social aspect in an MMO since around WotLK/start of Cata in WoW (and back during LoY/LDoN/GoD with my EQ live guild killing in VT and elemental planes)
hell yeah thats awesome!
what expansion is it in?
Prophecy of Ro on Thursday. The Buried Sea right after New Years
Dude you joined a toxic guild who walks right into other peoples camps and tries to take them over, asked for free loot from your guild leader and then complained about the lack of social interactions and 'loot pinatas'. You also complained about krono and the yearly bag bundles, both of which are the only real reason Daybreak can afford to keep everquest alive. Just go play on P99 like you said you want to.
thanks so much for sharing. i started when I was 18; my little brother was 12 and we spent the whole day in my dorm room playing Everquest vanilla in august of 1999. i ended up putting in about 250 days of play time, starting out on Nameless and Prexus, playing with some big raiding guilds like Legacy of Steel and Fires of Heaven. i mostly played warrior/rogue, although i played every single class proficiently and at a raid level - it's all I did from age 18-21, so it's all I was good at. I never once solo'd in that game; I was always in a group. I met my girlfriends on that game; I lived on there. As a warrior, I was 100% helpless when I died and I learned early on, at level 5, that I needed to be kind to others because I'd need their help whenever I died. eventually, that taught me to get along with others and be a good person that deserved the loot that would drop off these crazy raid mobs. I'll always feel horrible that we intentionally released The Sleeper before anyone else could even enter Sleeper's Tomb, let alone get a primal weapon - effectively locking them out from the best weapon procs for multiple expansions. being the best was great, but we were absolutely brutal to the other guilds and I feel awful. I've read comments online from people expressing disdain for our guild and even me specifically; that I was brutally unforgiving to non-guild members once I was a raiding-only player. the kind person that grouped with everyone turned into an elitist jerk. eventually, monks became a bit too powerful and started out-tanking warriors and i quit almost immediately, along with most folks. the new models in SoL really made us mad. we were obsessed with our appearances - even when using guise to be a Dark Elf. I still remember which model everyone was - with and without their guise. i remember binding at the pots in Timorous Deep. i remember looting manastones. i remember the original jboots "camp" before it got moved to a random drop in the desert. i remember petitioning GMs to argue over who got to fight a raid boss. i remember killing Tunare with ~25 friends at 3am, before any other server could do it with 50-75 people. i thought i did some amazing things. i wonder if anyone will remember it outside of the few friends I made on there. we have a facebook group now. most people think im a jerk, but a few remember me being nice. figured id share. have a great day and thanks again for your stories.
EQ was a lot of fun years ago. On P99 once you hit 50+ it will require at least five hours of grinding to see any exp bar progress. Not feasible in 2024 (soon 2025).
I started in 1999 and stopped in 2004. So many great memories
EQ is only 2 years older than me, but my dad played it from launch and I grew up both watching him play and playing with him. I have so many fond memories of growing up playing EQ, especially silly things like game masters messing with people in PoK once in awhile. It's a tad bittersweet now since my dad just passed earlier this year, but EQ will always hold a special place in my heart and I hope to return to it soon with renewed passion. Thanks for making these videos, I resonate with a lot of the things you talk about and I enjoy reliving some of my childhood memories.
How do I get that UI you have. Especially the one with the cool ground pixels. Let me know please.
I miss those old particles so much. I wish they could be enabled on live. Same with the classic skeleton model for necro pets.
Hey man your videos have been so helpful. I got to level 20 as an Iksar Necro leveling in field of bones and paid a Druid to port me to Butcherblock. Almost fell off Dagnors Cauldron during the night time and finally made it to unrest. Now after 3-4 hours yesterday of grinding in unrest, I’m almost level 24 and have a bunch of gear and loot. Players were giving me gear for necro from fire place and basement since I was only necro in the zone. lol when I’m done with Unrest, I gotta make my way back to Caballis. Your videos have helped me tremendously as a new player.
@@Plaximos that’s awesome! Good luck on your journey!
I just watched a handful of your vids past few days with my wife. We played EQ way back in the olden days. Then we played p99 for years. Listening to you talk about playing with your dad almost made me nostalgia cry. I had my kid (she's just turned 27 a couple weeks ago) follow me around on her mom's cleric and heal my rangerly ass. (I'm always a half-elf ranger) I stopped playing tho when I got a Quest 2. But Norrath is in my soul in ways too long to explain here. ..But the Dragon Bridge in Velious is a very real place to me and I dream about it still because my first time crossing the bridge with my druid buddy I had my first collapsed lung and the next 10 years were hell physically. In those 10 years I was basically trapped in my apartment and EQ was my entire social life. Hearing about you playing with your dad tho really touched me. Thanks for making these vids. My wife and I just started playing on Quarm. Hope to see you around sometime. Eloian Bushlover, Ranger Of Tunare.

Im 25 now and really like EQ1 after playing on the project quarm server. My forever MMO loves will be final fantasy 11 and phantasy star online, but everquest still has a charm not many games have. Now we just desperately need the project 1999 treatment for EQ2.
So, I started EverQuest in 2001 (in my 20s). My husband (then fiance) was really into computers, and saw the EverQuest Kunark box in EB Games. He really wanted to get it, but me (being not knowledgeable about the old internet and AoL etc) was wary, but I picked it up. And that was that XD
Quarm is terrible for one reason, it's run by a crazy identity politics obsessed tranny. P99 is not.
Better than Storm Of Swords
are those the high def textures i've been trying to figure out how to get them to work
I would have been 15 or 16 saw my friend killing shit in steamfont mountains. Got it when Kunark came out but my parents always limited my game time so I only made it to level 30something on my gnome mage Blaabik. I dabbled here and there in college but was mostly addicted to halo then. It wasn’t until I found p1999 in like 2016 that I got hooked again. Classic EverQuest is the best!!
The Quarm community is really lackluster at best. The grouping into the 50s is really not there. Emulated EverQuest servers are the same cliques of friends. Same EverQuest day different EverQuest server.
During the pandemic I managed to get back ahold of my original EQ account. I started playing about a month before Velious release and quit during GoD. My ranger, who was my 3rd or 4th character I ever made is still kicking around. Like you, he is 23 years old. He was born May 10th 2001 at around 10pm. I try to make it a point to log in every year on this day just out of pure sentimentality.
Love this man!
So good to see younger folks playing good ole EQ!
Best game I have ever played. Started during Kunark, played almost non stop up to Warcraft coming out which stole most of the player base and killed my guild at the time, I was one who left also.Played off and on after that. Thought I knew this game in and out...than I joined P99...Holy crap! So much more to learn, from exploits like gem 1 no recast cool down to items like OT hammer on anyone using puppet strings, clicky items for raiding. I was in Awakened when it formed in the early Velious era and got best in slot for almost every slot on druid, POOPSOCKING with batphones is just mind blowing and draining. Getting 90% of all the raid targets per week, is fun for awhile, but becomes a chore when you got most of everything. BATPHONE goes out, 40-60 people log on in ToV, 1 or 2 mins later the mob is in camp, kill, loot, log... its the most efficient raiding I have ever been apart of anywhere any game. I hear the dragons are permarooted now, and item recharges are no longer a thing. Guild use to pay 200K plat or more per week to recharge items for everyone in the guild as every person was required to have items for the tank to instant agro with clicky slow hammer so DPS can instant nuke. Played with a RL friend who ran a warrior, got best in slot everything pretty much and we would get some randos and bring them down into the Hole. Many people were scared to go down there, but we just needed a enc and we would annahilate that zone. Could pull 5-10 mobs and with charm pet we would chop them up for mega exp. Everyone who came with basically crapped their pants at the exp rate. Saying the best exp they have ever got. Could get a couple levels down there in a 4-6 hours. Recently went back to TLP Selos and played that at launch up to end of DoN expansion. Had a enchanter that was one of the best geared on the server at that point. Was so fun to join a group that was wiping in group content dungeon with 6 people and than I with raid gear almost being able to solo it. Enchanter had the most life of any class, so many runes you would take no damage for the first 40,000 HP, was some of the most fun being able to do groups where everyone looked at you like a God. I miss this game, it will always have a place in my heart. R.I.P EverQuest, you stole my heart and than you broke it when you became someone I did not recognize anymore. I will always love you, but you are not the same person I fell in love with. But them memories will live on forever. <3 ..../end stories nobody cares about
Great video Dess! I really miss games that are designed to make you actually look forward to meeting new people instead of dreading it. This game was/is such a gem.

@@foze87888 that’s awesome! EQ is rich with vocabulary
I still love this game and the memories I have because of it. I started playing just after launch when I was 24 years old. It was my 1st MMO love and all others after it have to meet the standards of EQ but none can stand higher than Evercrack.
I started playing EQ in my early 20s when it was live. It defined early MMOs along with the early internet.
I played EQ from release through to Gates of Discord and enjoyed my time there very much. Undivided Faith was my family and they were some of the finest people I could have ever hoped to be involved in online gaming with.
EverCraft new mmo open test Oct 18-20 free
Your experience is pretty much the same as me and I am 10 years older then you. There was something special about EQ for sure. Its something that is lost in modern multiplayer gaming with the endless quest for quality of life improvements. I think most modern game developers would give you a disgusted look if you said you are going to force people to work together to succeed and making friends is one of the most important progression requirements. But that social nature of the game is such a huge part of what made it great. Classic WoW had a bit of that magic but it was largely gone by later expansions.
