I will add my observation, a lot of people come into the hospital with pre conceived notions that they are coming to fight, that archaic belief that nurses are wicked. So when they come, the behave and talk rudely and it takes God’s grace to not reciprocate the energy.
When you go to people offices, learn to calm down, ask questions politely, listen to instructions and trust me you’ll enjoy a good service.

Nursing is a calling. Some are not passionate about their work

      Please stop this!!!
Nurses have never been a calling and they will never be. If you want a calling professionals call a pastor
Nursing is just a regular job that requires passion for it. It is as simple as that

Well said. And it applies to every job. You would definitely see the difference between someone who naturally loves a job (not potentially to japa) and someone who's just doing it for the pay or the potential. I remember my late dad who was also an electrical engineer. My dad could do anything related to electricity even in his sleep; we at home and the community really enjoyed his presence then, and still miss him till now. God help us all.

One of the nurses in Lasuth asked me to wear some medicinal socks for my mum on sick bed; unfortunately I myself was not in good shape, so I tried to explain. She walked out on us with a face saying 'dey play'. A doctor later came to put them on. You had to stay with your patient and call the nurses everytime (wake them up) and beg them not to be angry. We later lost my mum and I still feel some pain towards the hospital. I agree with Aunt YK (and disagree with Matron), is it me that I'm thinking of my relative's health, bills etc, that will be trying to verify qualified nurses? What is the Nursing body doing, and the government? My major pain is these loss of lives (they even let you know your patient would eventually die, so what's the stress). God help us in Nigeria.

Am a nurse and am so passionate about my profession and it’s really a calling the matron on the show knows her onions very well am proud of her 🎉 I agree Nurses should only pray for their patients in their mind not loudly as they do above all there are more good nurses than bad ones

So many things have been lost and compromised in Nigeria of nowadays. About 50% of our health care practitioners don't know what kind of profession they're in to. Standards should never be compromised in health sector and frequent training and assessment should be done regularly. It's like we've remove compassion and kindness from our values and replace it with monetary value and non chalant attitude.

Good discussion! I am glad that Nigerians are looking into the practice of professional nurses. Most Nigerian _ trained nurses lack empathy

Some nurses in ikorodu general hospital are not accomdatig. I lost daughter there due to negligence and rude attitude in 2019. My daughter wasn't attended to on time,we were in the emergency ward no nusrse even collected the child from me, I didn't even no the child needed oxygen,it was a woman whose child was there that asked me to place my daughter on the bed,my husband went to make payments before she was placed on oxygen, placed her on drips and she was just left there, the doctor disappeared, the nurse was just there my daughter was just there I made a complain and the nurse did not respond. In the morning my 2yrs old active, beautiful daughter died and since then I refused to go to the hospital. But this year I went with two of my daughters who were in school and I was impressed that things has gotten a lot better.

If there the nurses and Dr were praying. There is what we call Spirituality in nursing practice. Which talk about holistic manner of approach in nursing care of patient

    Welldone NR Adeola.
Nigeria Nurses are the brilliant and competent ones.
Code of Ethics is highly practiced. They are the most sourced for outside the shore.
Public should not use an inductive generalization for the entire Professional Nurses.
As we have the good ones in any profession so equally the bad ones.
Recently UK,USA& Canada prime mostly on Nigeria Nigerian Nurses input both in training & practice.

This qualifications of empathy does not hold water. Every Registered nurse has been found worthy of their license and certification. Obiajulu, in your profession, you also have bad ones, how have you been able to weed them out. In the views ladies, Nima stand out among all of you as far as I am concern

MOST NIGERIAN NURSES NEED TO BE TAUGHT SYMPATHY, EMPATHY, KINDNESS ETC. THEY NEED TO SEEK INDIVIDUALS THAT ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT THEIR PROFESSION TO TAKE CARE OF SICK PEOPLE.

Many nurses I'm Nigeria learnt it like apprenticeship... As though it's tailoring.... They are meant to be health care aides not nurses.

If the doctors and nurses were praying, it means that your sister's case is beyond medical sciences.....
Common sense should have told you that. Or do you think they have remedy but decided to form a prayer band????

    • @rtdmyrs8030

She should be happy, that her sister had the privilege for people to pray for her before giving up! If doctors n nurses were praying, means that every medical intervention was unsuccessful, then divine intervention was sort.
