Great lesson, I had no idea rope making was so doable at home. This was very informative and hugely enjoyable, thank you Dan and assistant cameraman Jayce.
Great video I am glad you showed what knot to do. I made my own four hook spinner out of wood and used car toothed timing belt screwed to wood blanks as the gears. An old Shepheard in Lancashire UK showed me how to make a 2 strand sisal rope using a bench vice and a brace and bit using a screwdriver shaft to keep the strands separated (wind forward, hold the middle and fold it back to the vice and wind reverse to finish) Many years later I made "strings" for my mother on law for her knitted baby mitts. I used the door handle and a Battery Operated Milk Frother. ;-)) it was much quicker than her method.
Good job on your ropes I've been making rope since 1970 and it still interested me . The combinations of colors are endless as long as you have a variety of twines .I use both sisal and poly propaliene plastic twine in the same rope some times.
@@rhinestoneropers9204 sisapl Baylor twine is old b grass twine that was used before plastic twine came out to put around hay bales.it works the same way except you might need an extra person to help keep the strands separated because the twine has hairs on it that will grab your rope as you twist it .. plus you can add more strings on each hook to increase the rope size .I usually only make three strand rope but I can make it as big as you want..
Thank you for showing me how to make a rope very interesting first time I see videos of making rope very good job working with your son that makes a really good Bond good job. Thanks for the video my friend. I’m getting ready to do this for a bunch of boys as an activity. I have forgotten how to do it so I appreciate the refresher.
Great video and really appreciate the safety warnings. It's good to let children and even adults that the nanny government isn't there to protect them from themselves.
I've had a few girls get their hair caught as they tried to go under the rope that was being made. Luckily I've never had anyone get anything caught in the machine.
It is possible to make a very long rope but it takes some planning. You would need to start with the twine strung on the machine at almost 300 feet. You would need several people at 60ft. intervals helping to keep the twines separated. Then keep a watch on your weight. When it reaches up to the swivel, you have to pull the machine forward until the weight goes back to the ground, then start turning the handle again. You will have to do this several times for a 200ft rope.
I have seen videos that feature hand made machines. My machine is not hand made but is the best I have seen. It's made by Fred Mueller from Sheridan Wyoming.
I've never made a 200footer. I've made a few 120ft. 200 is possible but it would be best to have a couple helpers in the middle keeping the three strands apart. You need to keep a close eye on the weight as it rises to the pully, because the weight will rise up to the pulley and the rope will no longer have slack to allow twisting. So, when the weight reaches the pully, you move the machine closer to the pulley so that the weight goes back to the ground. Then continue turning the handle. You will have to do this several times. It's not a fast project.

Use to make rope out of green hide. Peg out a cow hide, remove all the flesh and fat, find an approximate centre and using a sharp small knife cut one continuous strand in a circular pattern using as much of the hide as possible. The thickness of the cut usually about 6-8 mm varying depending on the thickness of the hide, using these machines ,divide the length into 3, attach to the machine then lay the rope and then put it under tension and let it dry out. This would make a rope about 10meters long and were great for handling cattle in a yard. Rough surface including the hair and skin limited rope burn!
Appreciated your little camera man... :) Good job in instructing how to use this old machine. :) from Maple Creek, Saskatchewan.
Thanks
Great teamwork. Good to see another generation getting involved. A good rope is almost as handy to have as🦆tape.
I agree! Add a hammer to that kit and you've got it made.

Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Bright!
Thank you very much! It is one I've been searching for.
You're welcome!
This video was very helpful. We are using a Meyer rope making device in our museum in St. Augustine, FL - Treasure Chest.
Great!

Great Job Jase lots of help.
Great to include safety tips! Maybe put ye beginning even. Nice demo. Separator gets separated from machine... aptly named. 😎
Great explanation. Love your work
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing. Very good viedo
Thank you too

Thank you. What is sisal?
okay, sisal is the fibrous rope? It's a chore to use isn't it.

Здравствуйте мастер!
Прекрасная работа!
Очень интересно посмотреть устройство крутящей машинки, с разборкой и обслуживанием (смазкой). Благодарю!
Always used a screwdriver or something similar on the swivel end to yank away fast without risking a finger.
Good idea!
Very informative. What would you do if you wanted a longer rope, say 200ft?

The use of a rope ladder is needed to keep the strands off the ground . Looks like short topped H s. H. H
Very informative

Good video. Great helper! Is he for hire if I need to make some rope? Are rope making machines like that still made? Thank you for this video.
Thank you. Yes Fred Mueller in Sheridan Wyoming makes them.
What is the specific name of this machine? Very cool video
The 4 Hook Rope Making Machine is what I call it. I'm glad you liked the video.
Excellent tutorial 👌
If you dont mind, who is the maker of that particular machine?
The machine is made by Fred Mueller in Sheridan Wyoming. I understand that he has a web site now.
@@rhinestoneropers9204 Thanks 😊
There's a DIY video on how to make these without a hand crank using a power drill
Cool!
