"The Unforgiven" is James Hetfield's most personal track of all Metallica songs. The song explores James' tumultuous childhood. His dad left the family when he was thirteen for no apparent reason -- only a mare note was left behind explaining his departure. James got really mad at his father for leaving them behind, given that he was the breadwinner of the family and that his mom wasn't as effective at being a single parent. She made a living painting stuff, but besides that, she wasn't able to properly take care of James and her daughter. Nevertheless they managed to push on... but not for long. His mom passed away when James was sixteen after a losing battle with cancer. James never really had close friends. At school he was an outcast because he was "different" from the rest of his classmates. He was raised in a highly-christian family. So at school, when it was time for Science he left the classroom because he was told by his parents that science was not as important as God's powers. James has recently revealed in an interview that it really awkward standing in the hallway outside the classroom having to explain his situation to other teachers passing him by. At home his dad used to read him and his sister the Bible and he would get so emotional, in fact, to the point where he would almost cry in tears. James, on the other hand, was totally confused as to why his dad was crying and why he's not. When James' mother was in her deathbed, her relatives - who also happened to have a similar christian mindset - never really gave her any medicine or took her to to the hospital. They thought God would somehow take care of her but they were very wrong. Without a parent or close friends, James quickly fell into drinking. Even at some points in his adult life he was so addicted to it that his wife kicked him out of home. The Metallica documentary entitled, Some Kind of a Monster, released in 2001, shows James finally taking steps to address his alcoholism.
Metallica - Fade to black James wrote that song after his amplifier to his guitar was stolen and it was the amplifier his mother gifted him before she passed away. He wrote the song giving you the point of view of a man thinking about taking his own life and in the end, he takes his life.

I love seeing this band in concert. They put a lot into their music. It touches your soul. Rumbles in your chest. From the guitars. It's awesome. Especially when you can push your way to the front. Can't hear for 3 days but it's definitely worth it..Even in the seats you will have a good time. If you ever get a chance go see them. That's one concert you will never forget. Peace out 💙
Seems you misunderstood one line....."You label me, I label you, so I dub thee unforgiven". I always interpreted that as instead of listening and attempting to relate to each other on common principles, we label each other and are unable to forgive labels placed upon us. That is only that one part of the song for me, thanks for listening to Metallica.
Since we are all Queen Fans. please react too the Freddy Mercury Tribute Concert that was done after we lost Freddy!! Great Bands, great audience.. worth the watch...
I love that you guys open yourself up to all types of different music. Especially more heavy metal or hard rock type music. So many people just dismiss it. If you actually pay attention, listening to the words, feeling the energy, It has so much to say.
So happy to see two of my favorite people hit 150K Subscribers! Metallica is my husband’s all time favorite band. He first saw them in a bar in Baltimore, MD before they blew up. #GVT ❤️
Jai you a headbanger down to the bone, metal song comes on & you just focused on the feeling of the music & the looks you give Half when he pauses sometimes cracks me up 🤘
Fade To Black is my favorite song by them. I can definitely relate to it. If you get a chance can you please react to it. That's one of the songs that will be playing at my funeral. Thank you peace ✌💜
I'm not suprised this was a great song metallica is a legendary band with a lot of great songs like creeping death for whom the bell tolls and master of puppets to name a few🎶🔥🎶
This has always been one of my favorite Metallica songs, they are one of the bands that gave me something to hold onto when I was younger and helped me survive. Really awesome to hear yalls insight on it.
I thought of another one I really think you guys would love. Ride the Lightning is about someone being wrongfully charged and sentenced to death by electric chair. It is a masterpiece.
❤Love you guys & Your Reactions are awesome!! Metallica is one of my Favorite bands, seen them 4x including 5 months pregnant! Great Concerts, 1st time was in 89, twice in 91 and in 92, Great Shows!! Good Vibes!🔥🔥🤘🎸❤
I don't comment very much because I'm always watching you guys on my TV, but I just wanted to thanks for exploring lyrics. I like all kinds of music. One thing I've noticed is that metal fans are less interested in lyrics than kick-ass music. James is a fucking poet and he hardly receives that recognition. Great job, guys! Also, if you do another country reaction, can you check out Cody Jinks. Cody was a metal guy before he made it in country music. He does some cross genre shows from time to time. His lyrics are a bit more straightforward, but goddamn he can make you feel them. Mama Song is really good. Again, thanks for all that you guys do to entertain me daily. From Bama with love.
Such a great song by my number 1 favorite band of all time. I've seen them in concert 5 times with the first time being in 94. I can't remember off top what all Metallica songs y'all have done but I recommend Sanatarium, Battery, King Nothing, Until it Sleeps, No Leaf Clover and The Day That Never Comes.
Great Choices, Sanitarium is awesome! I like Creeping Death, Anything on in justice for all or Killem all, Ride the lightning. Earlier albums, black Albums great too. 💯🔥🤘🎸
@@Metal_Mary Yea I love every song from the beginning until St Anger. And I get it, that was an important album for them personally to get through their issues, it just isn't regular Metallica. Death Magnetic has some great songs too. Master of Puppets and Justice are my favorite two albums though. When I started playing guitar all I wanted was to learn as much as I could off those albums.
They’ve been digging Metallica hard af for a but now and i love it, might be just me but it seems they heavily gravitate to their music with more in tuned focus than that with other bands. And not saying thats a bad thing by any means, everyone gets that way having felt naturally drawn to a band. Idk just get hyped seeing them react to Metallica, as i can really mutually feel that attachment along with them. Love you guys, been watching since close to the start of y’all’s channel, good to see how far yallve grown since. I know that things will only get exponentially greater for you guys from here and that it will feel very unreal how fast it will happen, mock my words lol. Much love, keep it up!!
I can't wait until you guys have millions of subscribers and im gonna be able to say, that I became a subscriber before everyone else realized the stars they really are 💕
When the black album came out I was like 14 and this was the only tune i didn't like off it back then, Was young and wanted the crazy metal stuff. Over the years my appreciation for this tune really changed and realized how great it was...along with 2 & 3. When you get to live through when all the albums came out it turns into something special I tell ya, Awesome to see you guys discovering it now. Oh and congrats on 150k subs!! Cheers \m/
The best music, is about life. We all live it, we all go through it some on level, together. So regardless of genre, everyone can relate to the good stuff. Great video!
The song is bout his childhood when he was a kid his parents forced him and his sister to be Christian scientist which means they are Christians but they don’t go to health class or see a doctor when they are sick or anything that involves the body cuz they believe god will help u and when he was 13 his dad left him and when he was 16 his mom gotten sick and she didn’t wanted to see a doctor cuz she thought god will help her but then she passed away and then that’s when James (the leader of the band) started drinking. And there’s a part 2 of this song and there’s another song that relates more to his weird childhood life call god failed us or something like that. And reason why I said weird childhood life it’s cuz when he was in school when they start bringing their health books out James haves to stand out in the hall way cuz of his religion so that’s why the song sounds like someone walked away from his life
lmao, I love to see people unknowingly bob their head while listening to Metallica....This isn't a hard song, but the natural reaction to bob the head to the beat is unmatched
Such a great song! Used to love playing along to this song on my guitar and drums. Great review! If y'all are ever in New Orleans, hit me up! Cajun food's on me :D

METALLICA G.O.A.T. That Guitar Solo Straight 🔥
So many years later and I remember the lyrics
Jai is definitely a headbanger. Her love for hard rock shows through in these videos. Rock on, and keep doing what you are doing!
Kirk (Hammet) was struggling in the studio with the part that ended up being the smokin' guitar solo, so the producer (Bob Rock) kept prodding at him, and challenging him until he eventually put down basically what ended-up being the heroic solo that is on this track. \m/
Kirk Hammett's best guitar solo in my book...The Thing that should not be is a close #2...ohhh yurrrr!!
Bob Rock basically had to "beat it out of him". Just makes it that much better, really.
