This movie is a meditation on death and aging. When Will says "It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have", that's the moment you understand the realization that sober Will Mundie had about life. Then when little Bill says "I don't deserve this" and Will says "deserve ain't got nothing to do with it" that's the sad truth, that death comes for all men.
I understand that, when I was younger I was to impatient for movies like these. But as I've grown older I'm much more patient, and can enjoy films that take their time. Unforgiven is a real slow burn. It is a great film.
My favorite line from this movie: Gene Hackman: "You've just killed an unarmed man!" Clint Eastwood: "Well he should have armed himself...when he decided to decorate his saloon with my friend."
I grew up watching Westerns w/ my grandpa, who only watched Westerns & boxing. I remember my father taking me and my brother to see this film. The entire creative package of this movie is hands down, a fantastic classic western. Clint Eastwood nows the genre that helped build his career. And, the depth of emotions show in all his films. But, this one put his directing ability in the forefront.
This is one of the greatest Westerns of all time. What I love about it is how it shows the grim and ugly reality of killing someone. So many movies make it look like taking a life is no big deal, it this movie shows how taking a life weighs on your soul. As a combat veteran I relate to that
The thing with the kid isn’t that he was a bully, but that he grew up on the stories of these incredibly dangerous, hard men, from the lips of his uncle, who had been with that crowd in the past. He had a grand, romantic vision of the life, and a distorted understanding of what such men were like. He was just acting like he thought an accomplished man of that kind acted, because he didn’t want to be dismissed as an inexperienced kid. Then he met the reality of it, and it was not at all what he’d imagined as he listened at his uncle’s knee.
I thought you’d enjoy that. I’m glad you decided to watch it. Clint Eastwood has written and/or made many really good movies. This is my personal favourite of his.
One of the best damned westerns ever made! My personal favorite? The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. Black and White movie. John Wayne, Jimmy Stuart, Lee Marvin and more! Brilliant movie. The first "anti hero" movie I believe.
I remember watching this in my early 20's, and didn't really quite understand why it won best picture, but I still felt the movie was great. Now that I am older, I can strongly relate to this movie. Reminds me of my younger drinking days of what I mean sob I used to be.
I saw this one in the theater. At the end, as soon as that empty bottle landed in the mud it was dead silent in there. Not even popcorn rustling, drinks, nothing. It only broke when Clint told the writer to pick up the rifle, and then just a little nervous laughter. It was still quiet all the way to the end credits. There were jobs, but Will was hiding out, just like Ned. They were wanted men and probably had a lot of folks looking for them, so settling on small farms in the middle of nowhere was a good way to hide. 11 years later, probably not many people cared anymore, and with aging he might be hard to recognize. After this, he couldn't stay on the farm so he left and faded away, probably as speculated in a big city.
I saw this in the theater as well. The audience literally applauded at the end of this movie, I've only seen that happen twice in my life. The other time was after the 'And I Am Telling You' performance by Jennifer Hudson in Dreamgirls when it first came out.
Still one of the best westerns I’ve seen. I still remember the way Munny (Eastwood) said “yea” when Hackman said, “I’ll see you in hell William Munny” right before he gets executed.
That line is powerful because Munny's responses to almost everything else is like "I guess," "I reckon," and so on. But on seeing him in hell he is dead certain.
Good take at the end regarding Little Bill. A lot of reactors think he's the villain of the story, but he's not. The whole story is about the lack of moral clarity. Everyone is a sinner in this film.
A classic. The way it's told isn't always the way it was. Just goes to show how folk tales and legends can grow just on word of mouth. Then along comes Clint as the anti-hero, who was every bit the killer although he said himself he couldn't recollect as he was drinking back then.
A true classic Western film with arguably the greatest Western actor that ever lived. You notice how Will couldn't hit anything with a pistol...untill he drank some whiskey. Then he killed five men before they could even point their weapons at him. Clint Eastwood waited until he was old enough to look the part to make this movie. And the thunder clap that boomed when they all looked up and saw him there was real. The timing of it was so perfect that Clint left it in the final cut. Loved this reaction. This is a different kind of Western. It's not like Tombstone with a bunch of action and shoot em up firefights. But it is every bit as great because of the characters. Little Bill was a legit gunfighter. English Bob was the very coward he called everyone else. Ned was the same as Will, in that he had stopped killing but the opposite of Will at the same time. Will did it all. A slow burn Western with a real message. I still watch it once in a while. But I'm biased...Western movies are my favorite genre.
14:21 He's setting an example of English Bob, by beating him up, word will spread that they won't put up with bounty hunters. he didn't like Bob anyways, so the beating served two purposes. 😂 another great reaction to an amazing film! 👍
You should put Clint's last two movies on your to do list neither is a cowboy movie but they are some of his best imo the mule and cry macho Great reaction thx...♡
Another great Eastwood movie and great western. Man, if you want to watch another great western that nobody has reacted to yet, please watch “Quigley Down Under” starring Tom Selleck. He plays a cowboy who travels to Australia in the late 1860s.
@Zoomer Stasi dude the dingos got it worse than ausies. But let’s be honest you guys are a retired prison colony, but no one is keeping score. Should call it New Ireland tbh
A great subtle point in this is everytime some tells a story of something Will's done, it always a different event. Not a different version of the same event, but an entirely new feat of gunfighting :)
eastwood bought this script and waited 10 years to make the film because he thought he needed to be older to play william. he said on "inside the actors studio" that this script was word for word, unedited. the only time he knows of that a hollywood script made it to screen without any changes at all.
Glad you liked this. Great reaction (as usual). Clint and Morgan Freeman are good together (Million Dollar Baby was great) If you like him in a western, "Pale Rider" is a good bet for ya. You'll like it. More badassery in that one. ;)
It's a great movie, but those of us that grew up watching Clint do his thing over the years. It's even more special. We've seen him be a badass for 40 years before this movie came out. Which makes it more dramatic and believable.
Clint Eastwood and John Wayne are the kings of westerns and will remain so until the end of time. It would be a beautiful thing to see both of them in a western together. But thats never going to happen with John Wayne being dead for 45 years now and Clint Eastwood soon to follow. DEVIN G if you want to see another outstanding western you should check out the remake of the movie THE MAGNIFICENT 7 with the man, the myth, the legend DENZEL WASHINGTON as the lead character nobody wants to F with.
Best western of all time… Tombstone is a hair behind in second place. This story is just so much different than the classic shoot ‘em up western good hero type…. Also, check out Tom Horn, based on a true story. Classic.
Hey Devin, this Jarhead gives you another thumbs up ! Always enjoy your reactions. Maybe it's time to check out a classic, like "Patton", "The Longest Day" or Tora Tora Tora.
Little Bill is misunderstood. You have to recognize, those prostitutes have contracted a murder. Hitmen from all over the country are now descending upon his town to fulfill the contract. He is on the frontier. His resources are limited. He must do what he can to prevent his town from getting overrun by murderers, and that means making an example of any who come to get that bounty. He must send the message that anybody who comes to his town looking to commit a murder will get beaten within an inch of their life, or just beaten to death. It's the only means he has at his disposal to keep the peace in his town. The town where he is building a house and planning to retire. Brutal? Yes. And it would be absolutely unacceptable in a modern nation with fully developed infrastructure and abundant law enforcement assets to call upon. But he's not in a modern, first-world country. Given the resources he has to work with, what alternative does he have?
Best Western ever made. At the end Clint is death incarnate and you can't help but feel it. Masterfully done.
This movie is a meditation on death and aging. When Will says "It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have", that's the moment you understand the realization that sober Will Mundie had about life. @@bigguy7353 haha my phone auto corrected because the road I live on is Mundie.
It’s weird. When I was younger I thought this movie was really slow paced but it really isn’t. Great movie
I understand that, when I was younger I was to impatient for movies like these. But as I've grown older I'm much more patient, and can enjoy films that take their time. Unforgiven is a real slow burn. It is a great film.
Same for me, much like No Country for Old Men
When I was young I thought my wife looked pretty, but now I realize it was the liquor.
Crap I posted that on the wrong account.
Same with me
The most badass character ever caught on film. Supernatural levels of badassery, very cool.
My favorite line from this movie:
Gene Hackman: "You've just killed an unarmed man!"
Clint Eastwood: "Well he should have armed himself...when he decided to decorate his saloon with my friend."
Best line in the entire movie… “Deserve's got nothing to do with it"
Nah, best line is, "We all got it comin' kid."
@@blammular nah deserves is the classic line !
A close second is "He shoulda Armed Himself"..........
best line.....
- I'll see you in hell William Money...
- "...yeah..."
@@blammular Yup. This is the line.
No special effects, no big explosions...great storytelling is all you need.
i think its time for a boat ride.... a missoura boat ride!
Outlaw Josey Wales …. Must do
True Grit …..with Jeff Bridges… soooo good man.
My favorite western film of all time. Such a classic.
This is one of the greatest Westerns of all time. What I love about it is how it shows the grim and ugly reality of killing someone. So many movies make it look like taking a life is no big deal, it this movie shows how taking a life weighs on your soul. As a combat veteran I relate to that
GREATEST FILM EVER! CLINT EASTWOOD IS THE MAN!
The thing with the kid isn’t that he was a bully, but that he grew up on the stories of these incredibly dangerous, hard men, from the lips of his uncle, who had been with that crowd in the past. He had a grand, romantic vision of the life, and a distorted understanding of what such men were like. Then he met the reality of it, and it was not at all what he’d imagined as he listened at his uncle’s knee.
Mr. Eastwood knows his business as an actor and director. Such a wonderful movie.
I thought you’d enjoy that. I’m glad you decided to watch it. Clint Eastwood has written and/or made many really good movies. This is my personal favourite of his.
"You just killed an unarmed man!"
"Well, he should have armed himself."
Best turn of a character to a “killer, killer”
Story telling at it's best 😀
Best reaction brother this is one of my favorite movies. I love Clint Eastwood he’s my favorite actor I also love Gran Torino
Devin, another great reaction. A couple more great westerns Silverado and Open Range both have Kevin Costner oh and of course Dances with Wolves
I don’t deserve this… “deserve ain’t have nothing to do with it.” That’s a life lesson right there.
One of the best damned westerns ever made!
My personal favorite?
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. Black and White movie.
John Wayne, Jimmy Stuart, Lee Marvin and more!
Brilliant movie. The first "anti hero" movie I believe.
Definately a Western that needs to be watched.........
I remember watching this in my early 20's, and didn't really quite understand why it won best picture, but I still felt the movie was great. Now that I am older, I can strongly relate to this movie. Reminds me of my younger drinking days of what I mean sob I used to be.
For real watch it different at 45, compared to 14
Widely considered the greatest western ever made.
In The Line of Fire with Clint Eastwood is a good watch.
You got to do HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER, Clint as a mysterious drifter who's out for revenge. Good movie Devin.
Clint is a legend. You should also check out The Outlaw Josey Wales.
The bit about shooting the three man may be a call back to that movie. There is a scene where some men have the drop on Wales and he shoots them.
My favorite Western. Clint Eastwood is the master. He get's it, all the beats!!
Good story, Clint and Morgan.. No man can ask for more than this.

Clint is a classic, man like that only comes around once in a lifetime
Been recommending this one for over a year. Happy to see it come through
This is an old video. He’s definitely uploaded this before. It must have been taken down
Good take at the end regarding Little Bill. A lot of reactors think he's the villain of the story, but he's not. The whole story is about the lack of moral clarity. Everyone is a sinner in this film.
One of my favourite westerns ever. Clint Eastwood's later movies are extremely deep and thought provoking
One of the best Western Movies ❤ and one of the best Reactons 👍👊🤓
This was the first western movie I ever saw ... totally made me watch others
Must have been a disappointment. This movie deals with a lot of the bullshit other westerns cater.
This is my favorite Western, Clint is my favorite actor. Thanks for the reaction! ✌️✌️
The next western you watch should be "3:10 To Yuma" with Russell Crowe. Also please watch "Miracle","The Outsiders","The Boondock Saints".
I just watched this for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Man, am I glad I seen this as an adult!
Great cast, great movie all around; but Gene Hackman steals every scene he’s in. Fantastic antagonistic performance.
Thanks!
Thank you!
A classic. The way it's told isn't always the way it was. Just goes to show how folk tales and legends can grow just on word of mouth. Then along comes Clint as the anti-hero, who was every bit the killer although he said himself he couldn't recollect as he was drinking back then.
Thank you for this reaction! Great western! One of the best of all time!
I like your reactions my friend. You can not go wrong with a Clint Eastwood western.
Not only is this my favorite western, but it's also my favorite film of all time.
You should watch some more of Clint's westerns. They are all great.
I love your reactions . Keep ‘‘em coming
Watching this now while chilling with my dinner.. bliss
Great movie great time watching it with you my friend hope you're having a wonderful day peace and love
A true classic Western film with arguably the greatest Western actor that ever lived.

The point of giving English Bob and Will a beating was so word would go around you don't F around in Little Bill's town.
You should put Clint's last two movies on your to do list neither is a cowboy movie but they are some of his best imo the mule and cry macho
Great reaction thx...♡
this is the greatist western ever in my opinion.
33:00 It was at this moment when he realized HE FUCKED UP.....
Another great Eastwood movie and great western. Man, if you want to watch another great western that nobody has reacted to yet, please watch “Quigley Down Under” starring Tom Selleck. He plays a cowboy who travels to Australia in the late 1860s.

Oh yeah! Alan Rickman was fantastic in this one, too.
@Zoomer Stasi I guess I don't remember that part..lol
@Zoomer Stasi dude the dingos got it worse than ausies. But let’s be honest you guys are a retired prison colony, but no one is keeping score. Should call it New Ireland tbh
YES!!! Movie was so good that it ended the Western genre until "Open Range" in the 00's. 👍
A great subtle point in this is everytime some tells a story of something Will's done, it always a different event. Not a different version of the same event, but an entirely new feat of gunfighting :)
"We all have it coming." 💔😭😭😭
Outlaw Josey Wales is the #1 Clint Eastwood western of ALL TIMES!
Must watch!!
Clint Eastwood rarely misses
That was a really great reaction Devin G. Hope you get to watch all his western movies.
High Plains Drifter is definitely worth checking out
Great job commenting on various characters and several parts of the story. Good stuff!

Imo the best western to date
One of my favorites reactions to my most favorite movie ever
"We've all got it coming kid."
I think this is your best reaction vid. At least of all the ones I've watched.
Clint is the MAN. You’re cool too Devin lol 🍻
Great reaction D. Congrats on 74k, I've been watching a long time
Liked even before watching 🙂
This movie is 30 years old. Still fresh
Glad you liked this. Great reaction (as usual). Clint and Morgan Freeman are good together (Million Dollar Baby was great) If you like him in a western, "Pale Rider" is a good bet for ya. You'll like it. More badassery in that one. ;)
Clint Eastwood really is the most bada$$ cowboy actor to ever do it
What makes this movie so excellent is that every character in it was wrong. None of them were the "good guy". It makes it very human and relatable
As soon as he takes that first sip of whiskey you're like or shit! Here comes Clint!
Wow....right on. I've been waiting for you to react to this movie for a while bro. Thank for great content
What a great movie.
Picked another banger I had been requesting lol 👍🏾
It's a great movie, but those of us that grew up watching Clint do his thing over the years. It's even more special. We've seen him be a badass for 40 years before this movie came out. Which makes it more dramatic and believable.
When he takes a swig of that Whiskey it’s like something inside him dies. It’s such a quiet moment too. But he is completely dead eyed
Saw this at the theater i was 14, used to like the kid, now being way older i feel the remorse from shit i did back in the day,
Yo yo yo!
Devin G!
This is one of my favorite movies of all time thanks for reacting to it man.
I love the channel bro.
I love how Strawberry Alice looks at Munny with "there walks a man" on her face at the end.
"Deserve's got nothin to do with it."
Unforgiven is fireplace and Tombstone is fireworks 😜
It won Academy Awards justifiably!
Great movie i seen it a few times and it is still enjoyable.
Great movie, my favorite of his is Pale Rider

Won the 1992 Best Picture Oscar.
Good reaction Devin G
You should watch Quick and the Dead (1995)!! Another great western with Gene Hackman as the villain.
Finally 😎 I knew you would like this movie
This is a reupload. What you mean "finally" ? Do you guys just forget or not care? Are you a bot or something=
Best western of all time… Tombstone is a hair behind in second place. This story is just so much different than the classic shoot ‘em up western good hero type….
Also, check out Tom Horn, based on a true story. Classic.
Even with the scars, Delilah was still the prettiest and I would still do her.
Hey Devin, this Jarhead gives you another thumbs up ! Always enjoy your reactions. Maybe it's time to check out a classic, like "Patton", "The Longest Day" or Tora Tora Tora.
Gene hackman was amazing in this. This movie is a masterpiece
I literally just popped this dvd into my laptop and was about to set my phone down without any idea of this video.
