love this girl, she is to the point, doesn't rambles like other cooks. Its so easy to follow her and the ingredients she uses are so simple, yet still delicious
Hi Helen! I recently moved 1,000 miles away from home for school and has been extremely homesick. I miss my mother's vietnamese cooking most of all, but through your videos I could have a little piece of home while being far away. I just want to thank you and let you know your videos brings me closer to my vietnamese roots, which I greatly appreciate.
Thanks Quizzle. I also moved away from home since 19 and I know what you mean when you say you miss the food. It happened the same to me. That's why I learned how to make all these dishes and share with everyone. I am glad you like them ^^
My mother cooked this when I was very young like 6-8 and I still remember this!! It has left a memory for me! The best flavor I had ever had in my life till this day! THANK YOU!!!
I'm Chinese born in Vietnam and had a lot of Vietnamese dishes growing up. This dish in particular, has brought back a lot of great memories of family vacations to Vung Tau when my siblings and I were young. I've made this twice and it's absolutely heavenly! Helen's recipes are very easy to follow - tried many of your recipes and they're all great. Thanks for sharing!
Chị toàn muối xổi ko hà, chứ muối kiểu truyền thống toàn bị hỏng hehe 1 kg cải rửa sạch cắt bỏ vô hũ, thêm hành lá. Pha - 4 cups nước -1/2 cup dấm -1/3 cup đường -2 muổng cà phê muối . Cho lên bếp nấu sôi. Rồi đổ nồi nước sôi này vô hũ dưa cải. Để nguội rồi đậy nắp. Hôm sau ăn được lun :D
I made this dish the other day and so far everyone likes it. My bf side of the family is Filipino and glad they like it. This dish is the way my mom make it. I will continue to cook ur dish

Hi Helen, I love this dish. When I was living in LA, I used to buy this from my favourite Vietnamese Restaurant at least twice a week! Now that I've moved to Toronto, I really misses this dish. I made this 2 weeks ago and my whole family loves it! Will make this again tomorrow night! Thanks!!
Hi Helen, you are a wonderful cook, yet young and experience .. I just made my Caramelized fish and the dishes just tasted great. Thank you please keep up the great works.
just made this... i used twice the sugar and fish sauce to have more of the sauce left after simmer. It tasted amazing after an hour of marinating. My gf is very picky when it comes to food, especially fish, and she loved this one. Thanks Helen.
I love your videos! One thing I do is make the sauce with 3 tablespoons soy sauce and 2 tablespoons fish sauce. I don't know how I ended up doing this. I don't know how authentic it is (even though I'm Viet)...but it does add complexity!
So glad to know you like my taste. I want to make lod chong too (che banh lot in Vietnamese) but I have trouble finding one of the ingredients (red limestone). If I manage to find it I will post a video :D Thanks for your request
I made Ca Kho few days ago for the first time. I used sea bass, I added water the same amount as fish sauce since my fish was not frozen. It turned out perfect. Thanks a lot.

Do you take requests? I really want to learn how to make Che Lod Chong. I believe its thai but I have had it at many vietnamese places. Please tell me if you can make this. Thank you!

I'm really loving all of your videos! You don't know how difficult it is to try to get people to share asian recipes. I just want to ask if there is another fish you might recommend in place of the catfish?
-You should melt the sugar under low heat. Take off the heat if you see the color turning dark. -Tuna tends to turn chewy when you cook too long. If you use tuna, I suggest you put pineapple slices to make it tender (and also great flavor)
Hi Helen, Thank you so much for making these videos! Your recipes are very tasty, I have made a couple of dishes already and it tastes just like my mom's cooking. Can you make Canh chua ca to go with this Ca kho, please? Thank you! Keep the videos coming, you're an awesome cook :)

Helen, you have a delicate way of cooking which reminds me of my mom :). Yesterday I made your phone ga, very good.
Awesome!
Looks yummy! I’ve had this before at a Vietnamese restaurant but the sauce seemed to be so much much darker. What could they have used?
-You should melt the sugar under low heat. Take off the heat if you see the color turning dark.
-Tuna tends to turn chewy when you cook too long. If you use tuna, I suggest you put pineapple slices to make it tender (and also great flavor)
