- This is my cammed Silverado, got a 5.3 with a Howard rattler camshaft specs on cam are 226 int./234 exh. .525/.525 LSA 109, truck sounds radical and I would only suggest getting the cam if you like feeling like you're about to run an eight second quarter mile

Bro I have my 04 Tahoe and put speed engineering headers on about 2 months ago and never put an exhaust cuz I couldn’t and still can’t afford it haha 😂

Julian Frazier No the fuck it's not I hate when people say 5.3 is a vette engine it's not. Different heads different intake different everything.. iron block. It's a 'VORTEC' it's just very similar to the LS
It's not similar to an LS, it is an LS. It's not a vette engine, it's a truck engine. Vetted are higher displacement aluminum block variants. The gen 3/4 truck LS engines are 4.8l, 5.3l and 6.0l.
All of the GM V8 engines are LS based. Only the 6.0 that came in these trucks are the closest to a Corvette engine. the 4.8/5.3 are a smaller iron block version of the Corvette's Aluminum Block which makes it lighter. In all, if you slap a turbo or two on a 5.3 it'll definitely have more horsepower and torque than a Corvette engine. And the number one reason people like these small LSX engines is because they're cheap, reliable and make tons of power with small upgrades such as a cam or ported heads.

Yeah I got an 06 5.3 with the TSP high lift truck cam, 212/218 .600" 111 lsa. Sounds mean on true duals with hollow cats and cherry bomb extremes! With all bolt ons of course! 😍

Biggest cam I've heard in a silverado I myself have a texas speed 216/220 cam 112lsa and its superb for street. But a tune makes world of difference. Most people also forget Injectors. My Silverado with same engine and smaller cam maxes out Injectors duty cycle trying to maintain a 13.0 afr.
That does sound badass. I’m doing this 5.3 in my 84 c-10 shortbed and that cam sounds perfect. I am going to use 4.8 flattops and 862 heads with bigger valves springs etc. did you ever get this tuned? That’s my only concern getting it tuned right because I don’t won’t to use a carburetor I like the thought of not pumping the gas to get it running
Why not have your 5.3 block bord to 3.898 and use flat top LS1 pistons if you're buying pistons...then you've got a 346 with high compression for sub 6L money.

Being "loud" isn't what it takes 🤣 to change the type of sound you gotta change the timing events, which means cam swap. Mufflers won't give you this type of change

It is a bit on the raspy side tho, not sure what you got for exhaust but a set of thrush welded mufflers or a boom tube would compliment it nicely

@@blowndome No actually, I've cammed 2 GMC Sierras and it doesn't significantly effect your mileage. For example, simply upgrading to 33inch tires hurts your mpg's worse than any cam.

KYstylereptiles makes 305 hp at wheels 320 at tire on a really humid day idk what it makes on a Normal day it made about 240 hp stock so pretty good gains to say the least from just a cam and springs

read it again. 305 at the wheels. 320 at the tire on a really humid day. he just didnt put the period between the two. two different hp readings at the tire dependent on weather conditions

Same truck I have. But mines Z71 stepside extended cab.
Over all, these trucks are nice and hard to come by. Mines was recently hit on the driver side bed panel. Issues was, body shop could not locate the part for weeks. Found the part in Florida. I'm in California.

This is without a tune? I have a set of 862 heads I just put new springs and seals in. Been looking for a decent cam to run with the heads that doesn’t require a higher stall, and will run without a tune for a bit until I can have it tuned.
