    That job looks great. I am in the Pacific Northwest I am going to areate ,top dress and level then reseed my lawn in late August to early September with Perenial Rye. Cutting at 1 inch now.

    I think I have similar frost periods here in Scotland. I've not done my lawn yet as it's north facing and only just getting the sun. I've still to scarify though I've aerated. Love your videos, very informative :-)

    Love to see how it turned out. I love dethatching videos, seen all that junk been taken out of the lawn. I wonder if the thatch is due to the wet cool weather of north Ireland so the dead grass is not able to decompose. Anyway keep up the good work👍🏽

    Very good Rob that will be a nice lawn soon I did a dust bowl job the other week but I placed a mask over my mouth nose...Eating soil isn't my thing any more look forward to the next garden

    Hi robbie, great videos wondering about my own lawn which is north facing with a lot of ornamental trees hence a lot of leaves in autumn . Lawn is at the moment very patchy with no grass at all on one portion and looks and feels very bumpy whilest cutting. Any suggestions.thanks......KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK..

      What about some soil top dressing to fill in any undulations? Try pruning some stuff back to let a bit of light in, and really heavily compacted areas think about some aeration - for smaller areas a fork is ok.

    Hi Robbie, if you had to buy a new aerator ,and had the option of the plugger in its present form, or the newly modified camon which would be your preference, I'm in the market for a new machine, I have used older versions of both these machines, but would value your comment, which do you think you might go for cheers G

    There are lots of videos promoting top dressing with riddled compost. Why do you not do this? Is there ever a place for using fine compost when top dressing?

    Great video and very informative, did you need to put something to scare the birds away from eating the seeds or is it not needed? Im in Kent, SE England looking to complete this process in the next week, is that a good time of year?

      Your local hire company will probably have a petrol scarifier. If your only using it once a year probably best to just hire a petrol one.

    Hope you read this because I need your help. I'm new to gardening and just recently used Aftercut weed and feed on my back garden, and I think I may have used too much, and as a result my lawn seems to have a lot of scorch marks on it.
    Is there anything I can do to help it along?

    Hi there, you said that you put 35g per sq meter down here, did you put half on first and then top dress before putting the other half on? Or was the second application just more on top of the original 35g? Cheers

    Just done exactly this on my lawn about 3 or 4 weeks ago including hollow tine aeration. Overseeded with rhizomatus tall fescue as its a heavy clay soil and the roots are supposed to run deep. Really struggled getting the seed to germinate and have lots of bald patches. Really dont know where it went wrong. I gave it plenty of water

      It's possible to over water.
      4 weeks ago (depending on where you are in the country) you may of had an early morning frost.

    Would you avoid doing this process during the summer months now and wait until autumn or can you do anytime of year?

      IMO best months are May, Sep, early October (Depending on location) in Belfast we are fairly north and there is still a good chance of frost up until May, new seed and frost don't mix... The tail end of the summer Sep/Oct are also great as its damper and the soil is still warm.
      You can do it all summer, but it's getting the client to look after it properly is the tricky part.

Do you have a disclaimer on results in the paper work as you are relying on the customer doing the watering. Also do you only supply this service to the lawn cutting customers? If you are not cutting you have no control on results.

      @@33shakey I try and make it clear to them at time of quoting and on the quote I give watering instructions, on the day I give them a fact sheet and follow that up with written instructions on the invoice... And a link to my blog posts.
      Even at that I still get the odd one that doesn't water!

    After I put the seed down, do I just put top soil in piles over the garden and basically spread it with a shovel and rake in? Just confused as the basic gardener won't have the drag mat.

    Great videos! I have a lawn (acidic soil) that has got patches of brown (dead grass). Going to scarify at the weekend to start the rejuvenation process. Do I need to worry about the acidity?

      I'm not that experienced with acidic soil. Most of my lawns are on clay and that usually means they are alkaline if anything.

    If I aerate, scarify and then do a sulphate of iron treatment and seeweed in March, is that enough? Do I need to bother with overseeding and adding topsoil in a few weeks in early May? Just wondering have i done enough. Thanks Robbie

    where do you get the 70/30 from?, im Bangor. is it ok to scatter some sharp sand on the lawn and then screened topsoil, as i can get these locally separately? and save me mixing a bucket at a time

      You cant, they are expensive bits of equipment. It's not like a lawn mower, it takes real force to drive those tines into the ground

    What kind of fertilizer do you use for a job like this as I have been told 3 in 1 or 4 in 1 solutions might be too hard on young grass?

      Those types of fertiliser have weed control in them and will stop the grass seed from germinating
      You want something with plenty of phosphorus.

      Joseph I usually do still scarify this time of year, though it's been so dry lately. It's at the very end of the season now.

      That's a very broad question and depends on a lot of stuff like the weather and the temps local to you at the time.... Something like this needs watered at least once per day

    Is there anything you can do if you have a heavy clay soil that is prone to not draining. I have heard compost is good to use instead of sand as a top dressing?

      Your best bet is drainage.
      Compost isn't great as once it gets wet it can be hard to get dry and once it gets dry can be hard to get wet.
      No easy answers
      Adding stuff like humic acid to the soil will help but won't work miracles

    Hi again Robbie! hope all is well mate : ) I was wondering why you gave the lawn an iron and seaweed treatment 2 - 3 weeks prior to scarifying rather than straight after? in one of your other vids you advise to treat with iron after scarification as it cvan get to the moss more easily so I'm a bit confused on the timings here?

    Nice video Robbie. I do things in slightly different order, scarify, clear, aerate, clear, seed, topdress, then a lute, then roller.. but I get why you aerate then scarify to break up the cores.. mind numbing otherwise 🙂. Prefer your way, seems much easier
