    I love that TARDIS sound 😮 but each to their own. 😊
    The very first appearance of the Daleks well a plunger.
    The previous serial "An Unearthly Child" the creator Sydney Newman originally intended to have the show be an educational program where the Doctor and his companions just travel to the past and the future and insisted on no bug-eyed monsters but when the Daleks arrived they immediately became a very huge hit and became the show we know and love today.

      I love the main sound that signals when the TARDIS is arriving/leaving, but that general hum in this episode was a little too much for my sensitive ears with headphones in. :-/

    It's worth remembering that these early shows were made without the services of the BBC Special Effects department, which was considered too important to be wasted on a science fiction show.

      I've actually been really impressed with what the show was able to pull off with the resources and budget available to them at the time. As far as the effects that aren't as impressive and the occasional flubbed lines, I honestly find it very endearing. It's part of the charm of the show for me. :)

    The sucker and that scream make for such an iconic cliffhanger.

      Cliffhangers are definitely something Classic Who knew how to do very well!

      @@BritanyBinges Later on, they introduced the 'scream' to the closing them, which RTD added to the opening theme in 2005.
      Some classic cliffhangers just happen half way between others and there's nothing building up to them.

    I love classic Doctor Who, despite its limited budget, still make you empathise with the characters. Amazing how the tardis noise and theme tune are still in people’s hearts and minds

    The 1st few episodes of Doctor Who weren't great (at least in the eyes of The BBC) & The BBC was planning to cancel the series after just 1 Season, but this multi-parter introducting The Daleks was so popular across The U.K. that not only did it save the series but The Daleks became the iconic rival to The Doctor that every Doctor Who actor has encountered them at least once.

    • @BritanyBinges

      Yeah, The Daleks is on an entirely different level compared to An Unearthly Child. I felt a little iffy about whether or not I would be able to stick with Classic Who after finishing An Unearthly Child, but this story definitely got me more interested in the show overall and the characters.

    I love New Who so I thought oh I’ll try the old one but didn’t want to splash out to pay for a service to watch something I’m not sure if I’d like, so your reactions have been helpful. After the first few episodes i was like oh god this is dreadfully boring, but this one was much better :) I’m optimistic going forward

      I'm in season 9 now and I can say that it took me a while to get into it, but it definitely gets better as time goes on. They spend more time developing the characters and their relationships.

      I have. :) I was missing Christopher/9 so I got the first 9th Doctor bundle that he did. So far, I've listened to Ravagers and Respond to All Calls.
      Also, I recently finished The War Games, and I was bummed about losing Jamie and that that we didn't get more information on what happened to him once he went back. I mentioned that in that reaction and a patron let me know during our monthly Zoom call last weekend about The Glorious Revolution. I literally bought it right then and there. lol I haven't had the chance to listen to it yet, though.
      Also, I haven't purchased them yet, but I am interested in eventually checking out at least Rose's Dimension Cannon, and some River Song and Lady Christina stories.

    I get we’re all supposed to like classic who because it’s the origin of the show but god the journey is such a slog, it’s so rough. There’s only about a handful of stories I’d ever watch again by choice from the classic series. I was definitely a new who child growing up.

  • @Joey15811

    This story is ok but a bit too long imo. Other long stories work but this one sort of drags. For me story 5 starts a run of strong stories. Story 4 is good too but sadly that one is entirely missing so difficult to watch and get into if you as its not animated and reconstructions dont do the stories justice.

    • @BritanyBinges
      @BritanyBinges  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I honestly feel like most Classic stories that I've seen so far (currently in the second story of season 7) could've been one or two episodes shorter than they were. lol

    • @Joey15811
      @Joey15811 ปีที่แล้ว

      @BritanyBinges you'll get to a point where there's only 1 6 parter per season but you have to get through the rest of the 3rd doctors era first.
      6 parters can often be hit or miss. For me the 10 parter the war games from the last season you saw is actually my all time favourite story that grips me for all 10 episodes. I do wish we didn't have lady Jennifer vanish halfway through though.
      Season 7 is a weird season. I enjoy the stories and the 4 parter is probably the one I enjoy the least but the rest are all so long.

    • @dngillikin
      @dngillikin ปีที่แล้ว

      Back in the late eighties and well into the nineties, a lot of PBS stations used to show these stories in movie-format compilations. 4-parters would run 90 minutes, 6-parters would run 2-hours and 15 minutes. 7-parters would run about 2-hours-35 minutes. And many stations scheduled these compilations for 11:30 pm or midnight showings on the weekends. Under those conditions, those 6 and 7 parters could really drag.
      Weirdly enough, the movie compilation that didn't drag for me was the old b&w kinescope print of the Silurians.

    • @joshuajoshua2732
      @joshuajoshua2732 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Joey15811 I disagree that it drags at all that's because people binge it it was a show that was not made to be binged when we use to watch them week to week we were always excited when an episode was on we thought how does the Doctor or his companions get out of this situation and such will they die but of course we know they survive in those days we were use to slow paced stories to a milennial it would look like it drags but it takes patience sometimes you had to six parters because of timing constraints and stretch the story long to make it make sense and i just love a good cliffhanger which sadly is missing from NuWho but even when they have ciffhangers it gets ruined and spoiled by these next time trailers.
      Also "Marco Polo" will never get animated they confirmed that because it takes alot of work and they have to figure out background characters and they kept changing costumes and so on which is very hard to do.
