This is a sound teaching by this pastor but unloving toward Jewry. How can it be alright to use up Israel, displace it, disown it for the sake of the world? I don't believe God discards Israel ever as we saw with Moses. Remember, these people are with us still and brought us the Bible and Jesus himself though they did not know what to do with him. Let's honor their work. To this day they are despised for being excellent and for bringing us the law without which we could not have saving grace. Grace does not exist in a vacuum. It must come from structure and law so we can recognize it and thank God for it.

      Dear Cynthia,
Thanks for your comment. I can understand your views, since there are several strands of biblical truth that can sometimes complicate matters.
      1. Please note, I clearly speak of Israel (esp. in the time of Jesus) having failed. I do not state anything re the Jews, whether then or now.
      2. God does not reject anyone, neither Jews (who are a miniscule part of the world God loves) or any other community of people in the world.
      3. God chose Israel (later, after the Babylonian exile to be called Jews) to be his people to bring salvation to the whole world (Gen 12:1-3). But, working ever-so-patiently with Israel, over centuries, he finally brings about the fulfillment of his purposes through Jesus, who fulfills the role of Israel (which is another long study).
      4. God does not reject Israel -- he just expands Israel in Jesus. So, for example, when Jesus says "I am the true vine" (John 15), he is using the metaphor of the vine for Israel (see Ps 80:8-15; Is 5:1-7). From now on, Jesus is the Israel of God, and all who believe in Jesus, whether Jew or Gentile, become part of the people of God.
      5. Present day Jews, from whose lineage our Messiah came -- though most Jews then and now have not recognized Jesus as their Messiah -- are to be loved and respected. Rom 15:27 - billions of Gentiles have received blessings through the Jewish Messiah.
      6. The playing field is levelled. Today, the Jews are also welcome to believe in their Messiah. Though, sadly, far too many Israeli Jews, and in other places such as the US, are secular.
      7. The Jews are our brothers, though most of them are unbelieving. We are ever grateful to the original olive tree and we Gentiles have been grafted in (Rom 11).
      8. On a personal note: My family is affectionately connected with an Israeli Jewish family. Our daughters were close friends in school (in the US). The father, a scientist is culturally Jewish but an atheist. He found it fascinating that I as an Indian Christian was studying the Hebrew Scriptures as God's word. We are still in touch.
      9. God will not disown any people; surely not the Jewish people. Even though, as in the time of Paul, some Jews were "enemies" wrt the gospel (see Rom 11:28), they still are objects of God's infinite mercy (Rom 11:32).
      Shalom!

God has not forsaken Israel. What’s being said is that Israel was Gods chosen people to be a light to the world of the goodness of God. Throughout the OT, Israel failed. Now that Jesus has come and they failed to recognize who He is even with all the healing miracles and His teachings, Israel rejected Him. In His perfect plan and for His glory, “the way, the truth and the life” became available to the world. God is sovereign so He knew from the beginning what Israel would do, fail. Remember the Redeemer is in Genesis 3, the promise to Eve though she did not wholly understand she had faith. God revealed himself before Israel’s became His chosen people. In Romans 11:11-36 gentile Christians are instructed “not to boast against the branches…that were broken off because of unbelief”. He will show mercy to them just like He showed mercy to us. For His own name’s sake He will fulfill His promise to Israel. Praise God.

It was not the season for the fig tree to produce fruit as Mark explained, but you also have to understand the biology of the fig tree in order to understand why Jesus cursed it. Mark 11: 13 starts out that he came to the fig tree "if haply he might find anything thereon". Now we pause here, again, stick to the text. Jesus was looking for something to be on the fig tree, even though it was not the season for figs...something was suppose to be on that fig tree....here is where you need to understand the development/biology of the fig tree...and from this, you will get the lesson Jesus was teaching..... Now, while it is not the season for figs, fig trees would produce small, edible buds before beginning to grow actual figs. A tree that doesn't grow those buds won't later produce full fruit. This is the pronouncement of judgement (Jeremiah 8:13). In a sense, this is like many people who profess to be Christians. The fig tree in this case, looked liked a fig tree, it had leaves, it was growing, but was not maturing in a matter that would produce fruit. You have Christians today that look like Christians, some may even sound or act like Christians...but they are not producing fruit...Jesus was looking for evidence on that fig tree, and when He could not find any...He cursed it. As believers we are known by our fruit....the evidence of the Holy Spirit....that if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not his (Romans 8:9).

The correct answer is that a healthy fig tree should have fruit on it even out of season. Fig trees produce what’s called breba figs when out of season, these are the figs from the previous years crop that have stopped growing because winter has come. Jesus examined the tree and found no breba figs which was an indication that the tree was not going to produce any figs that year therefore he cursed the tree because it was unfruitful. The fig tree represents the house of Israel which was supposed to bear fruit in season and out of season.

I learned something beautiful from this teaching. It is not about the cleansing, but rather the cursing of the Temple. I just wish people would use His true name, Yashua. I hope perhaps you could also learn something from me. The "triumphal entry" happened on the 7th day of the month, on the Roman Republic Calendar it was "dies veneris", which we call "Friday" in English. The Cursing of the fig tree was on Saturday (dies Saturni).

If you read on, it continues on to Jesus at the temple. The temple LOOKED as if it beared good fruit; beautiful church, lots of people etc., however, the church was full of bargaining, selling products, and thieves!
The fig tree was an EXAMPLE of something looking fruitful but not truly being fruitful. Like us Christians. Hope this helps❤️

Fig trees just before they produce figs produce another fruit. Arabs call it Taqsh. Taqsh is also called breba. One of the more popular brebas I am aware of is the Desert King. If a fig tree does not produce brebas then it will not produce figs. Jesus saw now brebas so he knew this was a bad fig tree.
Parable is this, Israel should be producing fruit (brebas) before the main fruit (Jesus) arrives. But Israel does not produce fruit so they are a bad and they do get cursed. Remember they told Pontius Pilate let the curse be on us. This parable actually fits very well.

Everything Jesus did is for us to see and learn. The cursing of fig tree is one of His example. And Jesus is showing to us TO BEAR FRUIT and don't be like that fig tree.
The fig tree is also being used by the first man, Adam and Eve to cover up their NAKEDNESS. It means that the fig tree is also subject to the sin done by man by COVERING UP.
Now, the reason why the fig is cursed by Jesus is because of this word in ‭‭Mark‬ ‭11:13‬ ‭NIV‬‬
Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because IT WAS NOT THE SEASON FOR FIGS.
Reasoning to God is a big, big mistake specially when He expect to you something about bearing a FRUIT. We all know the FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT (Gal. 5:22-23) and that fruits or SPIRITUAL CHARACTERS should be shown.
So, Don't be like that fig tree by saying it is not my time.

The cursing of the fig tree is interlinked with the prophetic pronouncement of judgment against Israel/temple, with Jesus using the words of judgment in Jeremiah 7:11. The fig tree represents the failure of Israel to bear fruit. Like the Jerusalem temple was destroyed in 587 BC after Jeremiah's words, the Jerusalem temple was again destroyed in AD 70 after Jesus' words.

All of these great swelling words and no one bothers to search the scriptures for the FIRST mention of Jesus being hungry, Matthew 4:3. Hmm. Jesus turned water to wine but no mention of Him drinking any! Jesus miraculously fed 9,000 men + women & children but no mention He ate any of it. Jesus provides 153 great fishes without breaking the net yet already has fish on the fire. What do all of these accounts have in common? Let's see, Jesus has the power to turn stones to bread, water to wine, multiply a tiny amount of food to satisfy multitudes, give His disciples the biggest catch of their lives without the net breaking, COULD HE ALSO HAVE THE POWER TO MAKE A FIG TREE BRING FORTH FRUIT OUT OF SEASON? I think so. I KNOW so. So why didn't He just command the tree to produce some figs instead of drying it up? Go back to Matthew 4:3 for the answer. "O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!"

The Jews failed to allow the Gentiles to worship God. Which is why it says my house is for All nations. The curse was over Israel that the Lord would take everything He had given Israel (Jeremiah 8:13) the Temple, Jerusalem, the land and even the name of the Land “Israel” was taken. BUT the story is not finished Mark 13 Jesus says the Fig Tree would bloom again (the reversing of the curse) at the time that is near to His return. That is why 1948 when the Lord who has ownership over the land of Israel (Genesis 15, Leviticus 25:1-2,23, 2 Chronicles 6:5-6, Joel 3:1-2) allows the Jewish people back into the land and returns the name of the land “Israel” and in 1967 they return to Jerusalem and so the Lord will give them a rebuilt Temple. Now this might take another 30 years to play out (which I doubt) but from the cursing of the Fig Tree by Jesus (32AD) to the exile from the land was complete (135AD) was about 100 years. Are we in the Fig Tree generation? Yes. Could the 2nd coming be another 25-30 years? Yes. As we are 75 years since 1948. But Mark 13 and Matthew 24 are clear His return is near, at the doors. I hope this helps. Take care.

Another fascinating case of "starting with the conclusion and working your way backwards to the evidence". In this case, the pre-determined conclusion is that there must be some sort of profound message behind every passage in the Bible. This story involves Jesus killing a tree for not bearing fruit out of season. A ridiculous story if there ever was one. But also not hard to understand if you realize that the Bible was written by human beings, not an omniscient being.
There simply doesn't need to be a deep meaning here, and of course there is none to be found. But it's great sport to watch people try anyway.

This is not a story about the historical Jesus. It is a story, a parable featuring the Jesus character, by Mark. Mark's purpose is to explain the end of the temple and the end of Judaism in favor of Jesus' new Way. It is about the relationship between the former Temple Judaism and The New Jewish Diaspora Christ Faith.
The notion that the historical Jesus killed a tree and cleared the temple money changers is kind of childish. Jesus does not kill trees to make points anymore than he made birds out of mud or killed childhood rivals as told in other gospels. That is superstition.
Mark is teaching mystery and settling troubled minds of his parishioners.

So as to dispense with any pretense, the gifts of God are irrevocable. Christianity will be cursed, cut down, and removed from the soil.
At his return, what will he find on the Fig Tree he planted, had cultivated and fertilized and, for three years, went looking for fruit on it?
What advantage is there then in being a Jew? ...Much, in every respect. (For) in the first place, they were entrusted with the utterances of God. What if some were unfaithful? Will their infidelity nullify the fidelity of God? Of course not! (Rom 3:1-4 NABO)
a hardening has come upon Israel in part, until the full number of the Gentiles comes in,
    and thus all Israel will be saved, as it is written: "The deliverer will come out of Zion, he will turn away godlessness from Jacob;
and this is my covenant with them when I take away their sins."
In respect to the gospel, they are enemies on your account; but in respect to election, they are beloved because of the patriarchs.
For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable (Rom 11:25-29 NABO)
Christiantiy can't seem to interpret the highway in the desert in the context of the previous passage in Isaiah 40:3. You have Peter, the Cornerstone, and you, like Peter, think like man and not God. "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?" (Mat 14:31 NABO) He turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are an obstacle (stumbling stone) to me. You are thinking not as God does, but as human beings do." (Mat 16:23 NABO)
The time of his coming is within the same generation of the abomination of desolation being set up in him, as the Temple without one stone left standing upon another, when he is "made to be sin".
Then I saw another beast come up out of the earth; it had two horns like a lamb's but spoke like a dragon. (Rev 13:11 NABO)
I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing! (Luk 12:49 NABO)
For by my wrath a fire is enkindled that shall rage to the depths of the nether world (Deu 32:22 NABO)
Warning of the impending Day of the Lord, he was swallowed by the Beast out of the Sea and spewed out upon the shore as the Beast out of the Earth, as the sun beat down upon his head and a burning east wind began the Way of the Lord in the Desert.
Here you go. Give it your best shot. What is the context of Isaiah 40:3 in relation to the previous passage, Isaiah 40:2?
The way of the Lord in the desert needs to be put into context with the previous passage:
(Joshua) The First Beast - Day of the Lord - Sacrifice - Indeed, she has received from the hand of the LORD double for all her sins.
(Moses) The Second Beast - Way of the Lord - Resurrection - Make straight in the wasteland a highway for our God! (Isa 40:2-3 NABO)
Just as it is appointed that human beings die - be judged - appear a second time, (so also Christ) Heb 9:27-28.
the one who is and who was and who is to come, the almighty (Rev 1:8 NABO)
The beast that you saw existed once but now exists no longer. It will come up from the abyss and is headed for destruction. (Rev 17:8 NABO)
We saw his star (of Bethlehem) at its rising and have come to do him homage. (Mat 2:2 NABO)
The star was called "Wormwood” (Rev 8:11 NABO)
It was given the key for the passage to the abyss. (Rev 9:1 NABO)
I hold the keys to death and the netherworld. (Rev 1:18 NABO)
the bars of the nether world (Abyss) were closing behind me forever (Jon 2:7 NABO)
Who will go down into the abyss?' (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead) (Rom 10:7 NABO)
As the Lawless One, with all the power, signs, and wonders at the disposal of falsehood, and seeming to be a part of the workings of Satan, 2Thess 2:9-11, he leads them astray, as if with a bridle in the jaw of the people, on the day of the great slaughter, Is 30:25-28, having been given the power and rule, along with great authority of The Dragon as the First Beast/ Red Dragon, Rv 13:2, with seven heads and ten horns, Rv 12:3.
Just as it is appointed that human beings die - be judged - appear a second time, (so also Christ) Heb 9:27-28. Then the (Red) Dragon (Demon Sin) stood before the woman about to give birth, to devour her child when she gave birth. (Rev 12:4 NABO)
And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord (Jesus) will kill with the breath of his mouth and render powerless by the manifestation of his coming, (2Th 2:8 NABO)
If you do well, you can hold up your head; but if not, sin is a demon lurking at the door: his urge is toward you, yet you can be his master (Gen 4:7 NABO)
Who, robed in splendor, judges nations, crushes heads across the wide earth, Who drinks from the brook by the wayside and thus holds high the head. (Psa 110:6-7 NABO)

You don’t know Jesus heart if you say Jesus do curse. Matthew Luke and mark don’t know Jesus that they put the title Jesus curse the fig tree. If you read the whole context, Jesus only say to the fig tree: May no one ever eat fruit from you again. Only John chase after God’s heart. Fig tree is not symbol of Jewish people, fig tree is tree of knowledge of good and evil which fruit is death.

Here is the correct & historical meaning of the event: There were 2 political parties, one was called the 'Figtree' & the other was called rhe 'Vineyard'. The Figtree party wanted war with Rome, & the Vineyard party wanted peace. In addition to the missions of the Essenes & the ruling Herods, there was another mission in Rome, this was the one called the'Figtree'. From 4 BC, the dispute about the Herodian succession that had been fought out in Rome between the brothers Archaelaus & Antipas had led to a splitting of Herodian loyalties. Antipas must have established a different house, & the mission that continued from his house continued to be hostile to the ruling Herods. This mission that looked to the Therapeuts of Egypt rather than to Palestinian Essenes for its ascetic discipline was called the 'Figtree' because Therapeutes did not drink wine & were skilled in the medical arts. The Figtree & the Vineyard were associated but had separate organisations. As a parable in Luke says, ' A Figtree was
planted in a Vineyard'. Simon Magus was a subsequent leader of the Zealot Figtree mission, closely associated with the tetrarch Antipas. On Monday, March 2, 33 AD Jesus went to the temple treasury (in Qumran) at the time for money collection. No fulfillment has occurred for those expecting a Restoration at SS3969 (1st position, Samaritan 31st). Jesus says it is because of the financial corruption & overturns the furniture for the banking system. The next day was March 3. When there was no fulfillment at the regular 31st, Jesus attacks the Herodian form of the mission, including that of the tetrarch, the 'Figtree'. When he 'cursed the figtree', he was condemning their financial exploitation, zealot ambitions, & their methods which were compromising the mission, & he expelled them.

If a fig tree does not produce brebas then it will not produce figs. Jesus saw no brebas so he knew this was a bad fig tree.
This situation was used by God as a parable. How do you Jesus didn’t purposely go that direction to that tree to use it as a parable for a bigger purpose. Parable is this, Israel should be producing fruit (brebas) before the main fruit (Jesus) arrives. But Israel does not produce fruit so they are a bad and they do get cursed. Remember they told Pontius Pilate let the curse be on us. This parable actually fits very well.

Lol, why curse a fig tree, an innocent fig tree? If jesus was god, he was suppose to know all the information u give regarding this poor fig tree. He just did not know, he did not know all the information u gave and he most certainly according to your bible did not know the season of fig trees.
U can try to explain as much as u lile, if jesus was not god according to your claims, your explanation might work. But anyone in that area would know the season of fig tree. Common knowledge.
