The show would have been out sooner but Sam Riegal got some cancer and he needed time for that. They didnt want to drop the season until he got better.

I get they have less time to put in side plot hooks, but this seemed forced. I hope it's not just going to be throwaway fan service.

As someone who had a very similar journey to you , Nerdy (started maybe a year before you), I'm so happy to see others take that plunge. Yeah, it's hundreds of hours of content... but hey, at least it's not a new show that gets canceled after a season or two!
Can't wait to see what you thought of episodes 2 and 3, and to see where the rest of this season goes
i love that line: "the economy of storytelling is very strong" with LoVM. And I agree - the campaign has strong story beats - and the challenge of condensing so much means that when restructuring bits and pieces every scene, every line has to have value for both the current scene and to set up moments for the future.

7:12 Vax multiclasses from rogue to paladin. That happened (iirc) when he agreed to be the Raven Queen's champion. (SPOILERS) Liam had planned on going paladin worshipping the Everlight (Sarenrae) and Vax had been "studying" with Pike to learn about The Everlight to give it a roleplay angle inside the game. But when Vex took the death in the temple retrieving the armor, that plan got turned on its ear. He still went paladin, but with the Matron as his oath. There were times at the table where Liam would use Lay On Hands, and I think he may have used Smite a few times, meaning at least 2 levels of Paladin.
I believe he takes the oath of Vengeance. I vaguely recall him using vow of enmity
@@enoobis8651 Right. It's just an awkward wording because 5e paladins don't "worship" a specific deity anymore like they all did previously. I didn't want to confuse the wording between a paladin's oath and a warlock's patron/matron.
Personally, my paladin went Oath of the Ancients and my GM *HATES* it. Me watching Campaign 1 involved a lot of me yelling at the screen "this would be so much easier if my paladin were there to help you!"
2:03 it’s actually a hell of a lot more 60ft base fly speed into 120 with haste so move+dash action+ bonus action rouge dash+ Haste action dash is 480 feet in a turn
As rough as it was on Matt to deal with, I loved how Vox Machina had those grandfathered in, unintentionally overpowered items from Path Finder and the arguably overpowered house rules on bonus actions. It contributes to how in the wider meta-narrative of CR's world this first party are more like mythic heroes compared to the other two parties.

It’s felt like ages since I last watched Vox Machina, I probably need a refresher, but it’s started off strong and I’m excited to see where the journey takes us.
Vex does multiclass into Rogue, but I think later on.
She did that just as the Conclave arc started, but it hasn't really be translated into the show

I'm so excited for that, It's the campaign that I followed from start to finish and is really attached to the characters compared to C1 and C3.

You wanna talk about something that converts from the live play to the animation with an impressive time reduction? Combat! They can spend hours on combat in RL, playing it out, deciding what to do, rolling and counting dice, but it converts to less than a minute in game world time. How many fights last for more than 10 rounds? How many fights took up most of a session? LoL🤣 Not saying they don't still have a ton of editing to do to convert the story, but one medium used a lot of its time on a factor that takes a drop in a bucket to accomplish with the other. From a viewer's point of view at least. I don't really want to try and calculate how much time went into the creation of that animation by Titmouse and other parties... far more time than CR spent at the table, but when taken as individual pieces of media for an audience, I'm just saying watching a fight in the animation takes a lot less time than watching one in the live play. But both are wonderful in different ways. 🥰

I will share, I saw your first reaction to the season 1 trailer when you guys kind of dismissed the show and I was disappointed.
But I understood why you were hesitant then, and I'm very much invested in your full reviews now!
Its all completely insane and the fact that this show captured anyone's attention is a testament to the fact that they should have been giving these nerdy ass voice actors attention years ago!

I 100% agree on the animation getting stronger, particularly the cgi , as well as them making smart changes to the source material that make sense. Makes me excited to see where they'll be at when M9 releases. At this rate the sky feels like the limit for them.

I thought it was Clarus without makeup at first and then realized it was Key’fish cosplay.
Ignoring the ones who just hated Marisha because "woman bad", I think one of the things people didn't realize about Marisha is that she plays like Liam. Liam stays is character a lot of the time during the game, even when he's not directly involved in what's going on. So he would be all broody and sullen, like Vax. But then when he did break character you realize pretty quickly that he's not like that, he's jut being Vax. But with Marisha, when she was staying in character as Keyleth, people didn't realize that she was staying in character, they thought that that was just her. But then when they got to campaign 2 and saw her as Beau, and how she stayed in character there, they realized that no that wasn't Marisha, that was Keyleth they were reacting to, but Keyleth as a player vs Keyleth as a character are two very different things. And then when we got to Laudna, it was even more apparent that that's just how she plays.
Okay but that still doesn't make it okay... SuperGeekMike has a great recent video talking about this tbh, brtter than I ever could.
@@Aidscapade71 Not excusing it at all. I was going to say no one deserves the kind of hate she got, but I can think of a few world leaders that do. 😉Which makes it even worse that she got that kind of hate for simply playing a game. And his video was great.
Yeah, the adaptation shortens a lot of talking very efficiently. But it also knows when to ADD stuff. So the opening fight in this episode never happens in the campaign. Because D&D players can do the math and conclude "we're not ready to face this boss yet". But in this medium, you need to SHOW the audience that the group is not prepared, not just tell them. And it was an amazingly animated fight, so I enjoyed it even knowing that it was in a sense "unnecessary".
I would have thought from the near disaster of last seasons dragon fight it was pretty clear theyre not ready
I've said it before, but this show is a masterclass in pacing. Nothing feels rushed, but they manage to put so much into a single episode.
Vex started as a Rogue and then multi-classed into a Paladin of the Raven Queen.
Vax'ildan is the rogue who multiclasses into paladin, Vex'ahlia is the ranger who does eventually multiclass into rogue
Vex did multiclass Ranger + Rogue. Vax was the Rogue + Paladin
Kayleth 'got a little freaked out' when they hit first base.....Kiki is a virgin!!! If this horrible affliction persists I predict some sort of virgin sacrifice plot shenanigans in future seasons.
Marisha still get's a lot of heat from me for the main character syndrom she had in C1... that and the fact that she couldn't even be bothered reading her spells...
But than C2 happened, Marisha grew up and became WAY more enjoyable.
