    I went with my parents, who are in early 80's, to Cavender Toyota in San Antonio to buy a 2023 Tacoma V6 in December 2023. It was no pressure, kind salesman, considerate, and they let them pay for the vehicle in cash.

    In the past 3 years have bought 4 vehicles...2 via direct to consumer model and 2 via dealership model.
    Direct to consumer is better on the purchase side of the equation...price is clear, options are clear, buy online and arrange the pick up date / time. Dealership model just takes too long...too bureaucratic...like the government it screams of inefficiency. In terms of relationship, I would sooner invest in finding a good mechanic and having that relationship with them directly...would support the "right to repair" legislation 100%.

    • @qbf4128

      This is the way. Let’s not forget that the direct to consumer model reduces waste (unsold cars sitting on lots around the country) and pricing reflects that efficiency

    Absolutely direct to consumer. The big hurdle is how you provide warranty and maintenance service. My solution would be manufacturers set-up "Certified Car Care" centers They could even have their own ASE schools. They could buy existing dealer service centers or build their own. The only downside is what to do with all the unemployable non mechanics at the dealerships. Hard to find jobs for people with no skills other than stealing money.

    Dealerships are a necessary evil. However, what should be illegal is this Toyota port-installed garbage when a vehicle does not go through a port. Toyota builds vehicles in a lot of places. Some are in Kentucky, Alabama, Mississippi, and Texas. These cars and trucks do not come on a ship and do not go through a port. Yet, the GST port for Toyota forces add-ons on EVERY Toyota that does not go through one. People need to be arrested who commit theft and this is open theft. What say you on that?

    I think dealerships need to be held to the same competitive standards as other companies. When they face the challenges of lower prices and direct to consumer options, they need to learn to adapt their model to become more competitive and then everyone can win with getting rid of either one. I feel that protecting dealerships with laws allows them to become complacent because they are guaranteed part of the market and this is unfair. Personally, I don’t like dealerships and prefer to know what the bottom line is for whatever product I’m looking at instead of the run around so that a company can squeeze as much profit as they can from me. Let alone making people feel the false sense of having a “good deal” on a product they couldn’t afford in the first place even with whatever discounts they can negotiate.

  • @Atreides-IX
    @Atreides-IX หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    I think there should be a direct-to-consumer option and then let the market decide whether a brick and mortar dealership with salespeople can compete. Most people will choose the option that costs less, at least for a new vehicle.

    • @benrositas8068
      @benrositas8068 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, like in most stores these days (for now, anyway)... you can use self-checkout OR a human at a cash register. Should be the same at dealerships, I think... Don't wanna negotiate and go through all that other stuff? Fine, go with the "vending machine" option. But if you want to negotiate or just want to deal with pushy sales people, then go with the traditional option. Whatever choice the customer makes though, I think the dealer they bought from should always help them take care of any issues they have.

  • @AJ-HawksToxicFinger
    @AJ-HawksToxicFinger หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    The issue with car dealerships is they are regulated and controlled by zip code maps. You cannot have overlaying, competitive dealerships.
    The auto industry did this to prevent free market sell and the ability for more aggressive negotiations. Then the dealerships slowly all get gobbled up by huge conglomerates who own many of the other dealerships within 100 miles. The industry has protected itself from 'cannibalizing' (their POV) their brands at the expense of consumers.

    Just my two cents worth, maybe it’s better to have service centers instead of dealerships. Take the sales side out of the equation. Do the sales side online and take possession of the vehicle at the service center. The sales side at a dealership, is where everything gets corrupted.

    Ok buckle your seatbelt.
    At 64 I've purchased my share of new AND preowned from dealerships and in all those transactions only one stands out as feeling like I was treated fairly, and the ONLY reason for that was my neighbor across the street was the parts manager at the dealership, got with the sales manager and requested he take care of me personally.
    Yes I partly blame myself for poor negotiating skills but why should anyone have to? It's ridiculous. 🤷
    As far as I'm concerned, car salesmen are people that couldn't secure a REAL job because they lack the skills to do so.....that they are bottom of the barrel doesn't quite do it justice.

    Honestly, dealerships stink, in my 6 decades I never found a decent one. I always felt people and business/market conditions would change the way we buy cars. It started a few years back, and you can buy a car now without stepping into a dealership. Since dealerships make the majority of their $$ via the repair shops, that is what they should transition to "Guaranteed Manufacture" service providers. Dealerships should only have one "demo" of each vehicle of the manufacture lineup to test. Cut out the dealerships on the sales side, and that would be a huge % CHANGE to the MSRP !

  • @TroyAxe
    @TroyAxe 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I feel the "dealership" itself should exist, but remove the sales and finance functions. Just porters and service. You can perform sales and finance functions from your home via an online portal, including the trade-in value of your current vehicle. The "negotiation" isn't necessary if the manufacturers set the price like any other consumer good we buy today, you want this make and model with these features? Here's your price...period, full stop (including the fees the manufacturers establish with these locations to be their storefront). Boat dealerships work this way now, no reason cars couldn't work the same way.

    Direct to consumer is the future, dealerships need laws and lobbyists to stay in business. Yeah there is your argument for the relationship, but Toyota would still need service and delivery center personnel and perhaps they would make a salary as opposed to a commission to how much extra he or she got you to buy.
    I say send car dealers to the 9th circle of hell where they belong. They can stay there with politicians too.

    As I’ve commented before Servco Toyota here on Oahu and Kauai have never marked up their cars and depending on what Salesman you get you can get a discount off MSRP.
    I bought a Tesla Model Y and the price changed so I got the cheaper price. When I picked up my car they barely went over the functions. I used it for Uber and Lyft, so the first time I picked up a passenger I wanted to turn on my hazards. I couldn’t find the switch. I had to call my friend that had a Model Y Performance where it was. He told me it’s on the roof between the map lights. I think that is something they should tell drivers at delivery. My A/C broke 22 days after I picked it up for the first of three times. Ended up Lemon Law’ing it in September of that same year (2023), Tesla bought it back but it took a year to get it out of my name and I am still trying to get refunded the second year $103 connectivity charge when I don’t own it anymore.
    Much rather deal with a dealership, Servco anyway. I am now a proud owner of a 2023 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab TRD Off Road 4x4 that I bought in Jan of 2024.

Having gone through the Tesla buying process, I would welcome other manufacturers embracing this style. There's still a personal touch with Tesla, when you pick it up, there's staff there that are super helpful and take you through the vehicle and show you how to do everything. No gimmicks, no talking about finances... you're just done.

    I mean Telsa has proven that no dealerships will be insanely bad for the mobliy industry as the only "positive" is every pays the same... But even in tesla land that isn't true as the ytax cradit and the referral program is a thing. And Tesla constantly changes prices randomly and seemly every month distpte their mdoels bearly changing from when they become avable... Not to mention different economic sitions of different people and local taxs and discounts... And leasing which is inpossible to make it so everrfy pays the same price.... Which price fixing is only a good idea when it kills actual scalping that damages society like scalping emgncy supplies before and during an emergency hince why Florida has anti scalping laws despite hbeing a very liberal(IE free as the founding father inteneed) state... As Hurricnae season is very much a thing and we have tax free hurricane prepairedness season so people can prepair and not wortthy about what little sales tax we do have.... So yeah that is even if Telsa was given you the best price iut can.... It very much isn't as they have one of the highest profit margins on each cvar then the vasy majority of products.... I'm pretty sure Telsa are in the same profit margin catgory quick serve soda which is the king and telsa has more profit margin then Gucci as Tesla has more in profit margin on it's cheapest car then cgucci has as a MSRP.... Which if telsa had dealships and if telsa sold them cars at the normal rates of any new car dealer.... Like easly Telsa would be discounted at least $10k of the wensite making them the most discounted model fleet of any car maker in history... But since they don't have dealships and live off hype alone they don't need to lower their prices to the market... Which is much lower then any discouhnt Telsa has ever put on a car new or used... As shown my the recent market adjustment returning the BEV market to pre Model S levels... Aka I pretty sure E bikes are hotter right now for an actual reason other then Musk hype.... So yeah if evey new car was bought straight from the factory the car market would mirror telsa alot.... And no one outside of the musk cult wants that and would kill the new car industry....
