I've played a bit with the Godwyn-Branx, I'm in no way experienced nor a minmaxxer (still lvl 30 on all operatives) but it didn't seem that bad, it's just limiting to a more up close playstyle unless you're a particularly good shot with Bolters, don't really get the hate, I put together a Commissat support build and it worked great with more movement speed/stamina and reaload speed buffs, trying to go for run n gun on it too
The Boltgun is extremely accurate. The trick was to go out of ADS and then ADS again to get accurate subsequent shots. The Bolt Pistol on the other hand can miss stationary targets even with Veteran's Executioner's Stance. I don't hate the weapon myself, but I understand why people are frustrated with the gun. It's extremely unreliable. I'll keep playing with it every now and then just because it's an iconic weapon, but sometimes I just want my shots to hit lol.
@@xstreamdray Yeah no artificial spread is always a pain in the ass, it doesn't even make lore sense for the Bolt Pistol, Bolters fire two-stage rocket ammo, if anything the bullets should become more accurate the longer the distance they travel
If you like it for being an iconic weapon in the franchise and can look past its flaws, then it's probably still worth using. If you ignore the fact that it is a Bolt Pistol, and just review it as a gun, then it's horrible. There's no way to guarantee you'll land your shot due to its sway and spread. Your best bet to land hits is to actually run the Run & Gun blessing and shoot at close range.
@@xstreamdray ahh, so more of an as you go style play where you stagger them as you run into them and switch to melee, and not reliable as a stand-alone weapon. Thanks. I might still get one in hopes they fix it, but with how the Bolter is, i'm not going to get my hopes up to high. Might still be fun to use once in a while.
I would argue yes because Headtaker is extremely consistent and you can't lose stacks so long as you're hitting something. It's practically free power that's available 24/7!
Great vid. I just started playing darktide. I want to ask, can I reliably run a flamer + hammer or chainsword(2hander) + Botlgun build? These are my favourite weapons in the franchise and I wanna roleplay without bothering my teammates.
In the case of flamer and hammer, they serve opposite niches given that one is strong vs hordes and the other is a single target armour smasher. Given that you'd think they could make a good combo, but the weakness is that they're both fairly cumbersome, short range weapons with low mobility, and poor performance outside of their niche, so you'll be vulnerable to getting overwhelmed if you're not careful and/or don't have the support from teammates. The reload on the flamer is sllooow and you'll only have a slow melee weapon as backup when you get cornered by the horde. Not to mention you'll be hard countered by snipers and far away gunners, which is very quickly lethal on heresy+ They are both considered to be underperforming in the community at the moment and are spoken of as needing buffs. Although any weapon is theoretically usable when played well and understanding their weaknesses, I would consider flamer and thunder hammer a risky choice I wouldn't run on higher difficulty pubs. Eviscerator and boltgun are stronger choices. Eviscerator definitely as a solid horde clear weapon, which you generally want on melee I find. It's weakness is armor but not overly so and you generally bring something else for that. Boltgun is cumbersome, with janky ADS and slow reload, and also kinda considered to be underperforming, but can be a solid specialist deleter, solid boss damage and, while not optimal, can clear an area in a pinch with a mag dump. Of all these weapons eviscerator is the only one I regularly run tbh. It's one of the issues with the current balance that iconic 40k weapons are outshone by things like a simple revolver and hand axe 😅 Mobility and speed are just too good at high level, but if you're running on lower difficulties or playing with friends then you can be more open to different builds

Flamer's not that bad so long as you don't expect it to kill Crushers, and you'll have to be competent with throwing knives. It should be decent with the damage buff, but I haven't tested it yet.

I was just about to start farming for a good Bolt pistol to try out this exact setup, thanks for the showcase. How would you say it handles right now?

Yeah it's not unusable. If I had to use 1 word to describe it: "Unreliable."
