Steve Jobs was already gravely ill with cancer when he asked author Walter Isaacson to write his biography. Jobs told Isaacson to write a honest book - about his failings and his strengths. Steve Kroft reports.
"Ever since I've had cancer...I find myself believing [in God] a bit more. Maybe it's because I want to believe in an afterlife, that when you die, it dosen't just all disappear. The wisdom you've accumulated...somehow it lives on. Yeah, but sometimes I think it's just like an on/off switch. *click* and you're gone. And that's why I don't like putting on/off switches on Apple devices." Wow.
"I saw my life as an arc and that it would end, and compared to that nothing mattered. You're born alone, you're going to die alone. And does anything else really matter? I mean, what is it exactly is it that you have to lose, Steve? You know? There's nothing." this is why he is an inspiration to me !
Steve Jobs made everything look more appealing. He revolutionized nothing. He only built on the foundation of others. He was not an inventor, he was not an pioneer. He was a marketer, and a damn good one, too.
@tripper85 It's about why he doesn't like putting on/off switches on the devices he made. Not that there aren't On/Off switches at all, just that he didn't like doing so.
Apple is the modern equivalent of Ford. Materials to end user manufacturing in house. Good if it has good internal vision. I think they have and have made great products. The end all, be all...probably not, but an improvement to life and great user platform...absolutely.
Sure he probably didn't invent anything but he had enough foresight to push people to bring to market inventions other people would ignore or otherwise stay in "concept" limbo. Not too many CEO's or people could do that. There are plenty of intelligent people, plenty of great ideas but not enough leaders to have foresight to produce a product a lot of people will want and buy, given that changes an industry.
What didn't Steve like about his father? I know the obvious reasons.....abandonment....but when he discovered his real identity, and sent his sister to meet him instead, he said he read up on some things about him that he didn't like. What were those things? Was he afraid? Was he angry? Did he create Apple to not feel abandoned anymore? The personalized way of the packaging and the design, are a way of bridging that sense of abandonment he's felt his entire life? He should've thanked him.
I really wish some people really knew what they were talking about. Apple has been a lead innovator for decades. They have very few products but make them with perfection. When the economy was at its worse, Apple thrived. Good products will always take the prize. RIP Steve Jobs. He admits he wasn't the best person. He was a great visionary that had a great ability to get brilliant people to do what he wanted done.
part 1 and 2 are about Steve Jobs and the other part of the show, 13:07 are about the apps on the ipad that have helped the Autistic. "Apps for Autisim.
@warfanax It's really sad that he didn't want ordinary cancer surgery immediately. If he had done that he would probably be alive and well today because his cancer was cureable.
@feastures What the Interviewer said was "stupid mistake". I have to agree too. It makes no sense to not take the surgery. He had the means, why not try to remove it. Not like the non-surgery treatment helped him any. He could of lived older, and he could of enjoyed Apple and his family longer. I don't see why any rational person would not try their hardest to hold on to such things.
It's amazing such a brilliant man could not know how to take care of his body. The irony is Jobs died the same year I had my two bouts of skin and thyroid cancer. However I got them operated on asap unlike Jobs. I'm still alive, Jobs is not, he most defiantly was ultimately defatted by his hard headedness and unwillingness to do what he didn't want too. What a pity such a brilliant mind and life gone to waste. I'm a fan of Jobs to and Apple I have an iPhone, but I dislike the nasty attitude he had.
Why don't people like him ? I don't understand ! He is so rich that he can buy everything but he didn't . He didn't let money change his life . How difficult that is ! Most people changed in a bad way when they become rich . he focus on his career even when he knew he would die soon . How strong he is ! He is a perfectionist . Apple is so elegant . He can balance work and family , he had dinner at home with family every day ! Which successful businessman can do this ? He can be mean to people
most of you are basic users that will not try to understand anything about the power of technology. Those that do can agree that steve jobs did change the world whether it be better or worst. Every technology has flaws steve jobs just tried to remove the ones that were most important to him. Every genius has flaws his was perfectionism not to be perfect but to push others to show their true potential. And then there are some that cant show respect for someone that is dead.
I still don't know what Steve Jobs did other than bully his employees within an inch of their life. Why is this man so revered? Apple haven't created one thing that I would count as changing the world. Its all variations on a theme. The guys who created the theme should be revered, not Jobs or Apple.
that he is gone.I love hearing about his life, and all he has done with Apple, I like stories like his, and I do like how he did business, and his innovations. Apple computers may look great, and perform well, and do alot of things that they are meant to do, but I still to this day do not own one, and rarely use them, but whenever I see one, I think to Steve Jobs, and what his product is, and how he achieved success with it. That is the only reason I like Apple, because of Steve Jobs, but PC 4 me.
computers is just to keep you out. Why spend a few thousand to get an Apple, that you can never fix yourself, and those times that you need to be able to do some maintenance are always at the wrong time, and wrong day - When the Apple store is closed. Never liked Apple, hated them, but I studied manufacturing in college, and Engineering as well. I hate Apple, but I do like Steve Jobs, I do like what he has accomplished, and all that he has done for this world. I do admire him, and it's sad that
Steve's quote about death is the EXACT reason 99% of religious people believe in religion... Because they don't wanna think that when your dead the lights are out, your done. I mean I personally think some of you lives on (I know) because energy cannot be created nor destroyed, therefore the electrical impulses in your brain which is helping you to read what I'm writing, and watch what is playing, will just dissipate throughout the entire universe. Thats my theory atleast...
this documentary shows even successful and revolutionary people can be dumb as fuck. He learns that he have cancer and he doesn't want surgery and spends 9 months. If he didn't care about himself, he should have at least thought about his family...
So in order for someone to do good, they HAVE to cure disease, and improve living stabdards? Thats a very limitied way of thinking, for new inventions that were ahead of the time, there comes a price, you cant expect an iphone to cost $100, or any good phone for the matter. And who cares what a persons reasons are for buying new products, its their business, and not our business to judge them. You can look at jobs the way you want, and ill look at him the way i want to.
Actually he wasn't. He was a person who presented inventions. People like Wozniak and other great apple engineers designed and invented. Steve was just a dead beat dad who ripped people off and insulted his co-workers.
"Ever since I've had cancer...I find myself believing [in God] a bit more. Maybe it's because I want to believe in an afterlife, that when you die, it dosen't just all disappear. Wow.

this is why he is an inspiration to me !
Wow! He survived 8 years with cancer? Wow he's strong! R.i.p the goat Steve!
Thank You For Download 60 Minutes!
Great Report
It is nice to know there are some smart people who realize this...
That's why my iPod doesn't have an off switch!

He looked like Winston Smith from "1984" after he was sent to Room 101 after he had the cancer for a while.
"Reid is a lot like his father...except he has is mother's kindness." LOL
That's cold .....I luv it
Steve Jobs made everything look more appealing. He revolutionized nothing. He only built on the foundation of others. He was not an inventor, he was not an pioneer. He was a marketer, and a damn good one, too.
Crazy story about meeting his father and not knowing it. How long before we get to see a movie version of this?
crazy how he met his father and never even knew it until later on.. small world?

@tripper85 It's about why he doesn't like putting on/off switches on the devices he made. Not that there aren't On/Off switches at all, just that he didn't like doing so.
For some reason it's funny to see that Amazon box in the background of the first b/w photo.
when i learn i have cancer i'll get operation as soon as possible. i'll owe that to Steve Jobs. rest in peace.

@tmar23 since when "part 2" means The End???
@verytalented2012 no, they discuss multiple things in the same episode, 20-30 minutes for each thing
What didn't Steve like about his father? wooaa... improvement on Tv? If only he lived long enough to do that. R.I.P. Steve
was that the full thing?
Even he did not want his body to be opened by outsiders. So much of an explanation in apple.

@OscarWang16 yea we all just heard that we dont need you to repeat it
@feastures What the Interviewer said was "stupid mistake". I have to agree too. It makes no sense to not take the surgery. He had the means, why not try to remove it. Hell awaits for you my friend....Turn to God before it's too late. Steve is without hope
It looks like his wish of creating an easy to use t.v. service is becoming a reality
were is the part 3?
Respect for Steve Jobs. The Einstein of computers
I always knew my iphone was alive 0_0
Do you realize that 60 minutes is a TV show where they talk about two or three different subjects in one episode?
He was actually an inventor...
hey mr tambourine play the last song for me i am not sleepy and there is no place i am going to..
today the iPhone 5 came out. Steve would be happy.

+Allison Burke Not gone to waste!!!
True Jobs did a lot in his short life. But just think of how much more he could have done if he were still alive.
I don't think he's done.
He does seem like a dick
The nasty attitude that he had is exactly what got him far.
They're making a movie a Steve
It's really sad that he didn't want ordinary cancer surgery immediately....:(
Steve jobs and Bill Gates sounds alike
Why don't people like him ? I don't understand ! He is so rich that he can buy everything but he didn't . He didn't let money change his life . How difficult that is ! @ZacL94 You've seen an episode of 60mins but never a TH-cam joke?
He never shared his vision Television to Tim Cooks?
Apple is like the Stark Industries of the Tech World.
@ilovefashionxo123 god is real. And he loves you, and he would never do anything to harm you, but to prosper you.
Does it feel kind of creepy?
People-too, two, to - There, their, they're... Little brush up needed for some people in English dept

steve learnt from indiA THAT we all have god inside us. all u hAVE TO do is believe .
thank goodness he learned capitalization from the US.
He also probably learned about the New Age belief in the Law of Attraction!
And he died anyway. So much for being a god, lol.
Keith Harris A human being's ego is ravenous and is never satiated .. The power of delusion..
It's the ignorance of people like you that hold back the species. Please, silence yourself
hahaha I'm amazed, and somewhat worried it got that many likes!
I am happy he was very open while doing this biography and everyone has skeletons in their closet, so stop judging him.

Fruity should have eaten some bacon and he'd still be alive today.
Omg so sick that his father was the restaurant owner....
How is that ironic?
Think different.
so steve jobs was Syrian

Thumbs Up if an apple software update popped up while watching this video.
9 people like Microsoft
That's not what irony means buddy...
Trolling on Steve Jobs stories and making nasty remarks doesn't leave you doing any good, about anything.
