Very… distasteful. I’d even go as far as calling it a micro-aggression? A subtle racist remark? Lots of us Danes are like this unfortunately, literally no matter what ethnicity or nationality the person they’re around is - if they aren’t pasty white, Scandinavian or just European, they’ll be a victim of such micro-aggressions at some point.

that was straight-up racist and should have not been giggled off like that easily. Jake is a grown man, I understand 100% and could have spoken up for himself, but when you are somewhere foreign and with the increase in hate crimes on Asians this past year I can just feel pain and see why he said it was fine. Even if Jake said it was fine I feel as if you, Sissel should have spoken up on behalf of your boyfriend (at least). How can one let their significant other get disrespected like that and just giggle it off? Especially with the power that you hold Sissel, being that you are white and that is your home.
let's take it back to the beginning of the vlog when Jake had mentioned he has never been around so many white people before (something new to him, an outsider/alone)... and then later on in the day, a white person makes a racist remark straight to his face.
Sissel you, yourself stated that it made you uncomfortable but decided to stay silent and giggled it off. There was a reason that made you uncomfortable! you, his partner, his tour guide should have protected him and stood up for him, but you failed him..
We can't keep letting this type of racism going on. Now we have those WHITE people thinking it's a joke and an okay remark to say when they see an Asian person. Which 100% is not the case. We have to do better than this.
Yes ! I completely agree on every level of what you have to say. It was straight up racist which is why the situation made me extremely uncomfortable. I wasn’t there to whiteness it and as you can see in the video, I was asking what it was he said again because I didn’t understand what we were laughing about. Jake and I had a talk about it after as well, off camera. We also talked about wether to put it in the video or not and we both agreed to keep it in to hopefully have this conversation we have right now. It was completely unacceptable the remarks they made. I’d told Jake before our trip that I would be there if something like this were to happen, and I’m actually ashamed I didn’t tell them how wrong it was. It actually wasn’t white people, they were middle eastern and didn’t speak Danish, which made the remark seem like a joke first to both of us. As a white person, I have full responsibility to change this kind of racist remarks. Jake thought it was straight up funny during the happening but we later both agreed it was not okay, and so at least now we are both more aware of situations like this so we can speak up. It was an educating moment for sure and we will both be more aware in the future 💚
Please, anyone who has experiences, knowledge or just comments; let’s continue this conversation !
Why do you „as a white person“ have this responsibility? Everyone can be racist even if the current wiki definition may suggest otherwise. Which makes no sense. If a majority is racist it can do more harm than when a minority is. But everyone can be racist. The middle eastern guy saying that Jake looked like Jacky Chan is as racist as Jake saying that every bald danish guy looks like your dad. I personaly find both not very racist because it is kinda neutral, not positive nor negative. But I find it very incoherent and …discriminating in the literal sense how different the reactions are when the „victim “ is a dane vs a korean
