    Water is leaking on your Defender's carpet? This episode is part of our Defender repair series.
    In this video we will show you how we fixed our Defender water ingress issue on our Landrover Defender 2.4 TDCi Puma. If you own another type of Defender this operation should be very similar.
    We will review the differents leaking points from door seal roof seal.
    Here's what you will need for repairing this Defender water ingress issue:
    2x Sikaflex 521 UV polymer
    1x caulking gun
    1x tape
    So take the time to check defender water leaks points in the video.
    Enjoy and don't forget to add a thumb up, subscribe to the channel, put on the notification bell, & share this video.

    About Off-Track Family:
    We are a family of 4 with 2 children. We are overlanding for years now on wild tracks in our Land Rover Defender 110.
    Our expedition vehicle is a Land Rover Defender camper conversion. Some people say it’s more like a bug out vehicle but for us it’s the perfect 4wd off-road tourer with best 4x4 camping set-up.
    We bought this 4wd rig brand-new in 2009 and the engine is the 2.4tdci Puma version. We transformed it time after time in a real overland 4x4 touring camper and it’s now a perfect off-grid truck for wild camping, bivouac or simply as an overlanding Defender.
    We love enjoying time in nature and exploring the world as a family.

    Good idea. If you want a sealant for really small cracks - use 'Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure". It was developed for micro-leaks in caravans. Only one thing I would suggest - is a smaller application of initial sealant + going over again. That way - you don't 'splurge' as much which looks as noticeable when you remove the masking tape. I have a really bad leaking (perished) gasket between the screen surround and bulkhead. I was all set to remove the whole tub and re-do it, but I'll try this first. Might get a few more years before having to rebuild the top of the bulkhead.

    Thank you for posting your LR and repairs and sharing your life style- I have used a similar product with 1995 Jeep YJ it is amazing how hard it is to find a small water leak and easy to fix once you find that small break in the seam- flexible UV sealant is the only way to go. If you are interested there is a gentleman from Canada that has a youtube channel and business called Briticanna Restorations. Mike has a wealth of knowledge from early series trucks to new 110 check him out. In his shop he sells a memory stick with all the services manuals and information he has been able to gather in 30+ years. I will enjoy watching the rest of your videos.

    Mais malheureusement les questions d’entrée d’eau ne sont pas les seules qui me mobilisent. Je m’intéresse aussi aux problèmes de corrosion galvanique ...
    Est que de votre côté vous vous êtes déjà préoccupé de ce sujet pour ce qui est de la détection, de la prévention et du traitement ?
    Encore merci pour toutes les infos.

    • @offtrackfamily
      @offtrackfamily  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bonjour,
      Merci pour votre commentaire, ça fait plaisir de savoir que le partage de nos expériences serve aux autres.
      Concernant les problèmes de corrosions nous ne nous sommes pas penchés particulièrement sur le soucis de corrosion galvanique, mais nous avons procédé déjà deux fois en 10 ans à un traitement complet du châssis intérieure extérieure, avec lavage, grattage, neutraliseur de rouille peinture et cire corps creux. Nous évitons également aujourd'hui de piquer nos masses accessoires sur des parties du châssis autant que possible. Nous pensions faire une vidéo sur le sujet du traitement de la corrosion sur le châssis, mais nous venons d'effectuer ces travaux l'été dernier et nous n'avons pas d'images vidéos, car nous n'avions pas encore démarré la chaîne. Nous ferons une nouvelle vidéo lorsque nous renouvellerons ce traitement, mais ça ne sera pas pour tout de suite malheureusement. N'hésitez pas à partager nos vidéo si elles vous plaisent et à nous dire quel type de vidéo vous aimez et celles que vous aimez moins.
      Excellent journée à vous.

    It's a way but I don't like to put some more sealant on top of the old one.
    The reason why many Defender a are leaking is that you all have to much weight on the roof. The light weight construction is not able to hold these weight excess. Even if you drive offroad their is to much movement in the whole cabin.

    • @offtrackfamily
      @offtrackfamily  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure it mustn't help to have all this weight on the roof, plus going off-road. But isn't a Defender made for supporting harsch work? Knowing many Defender owners, this leaking isn't only for those who have weight on the roof. In any case, it's best to take care of this issue, and as enthusiasts, we thought it would be helpful to share our experience ;) Thanks a lot for your review!

    • @feuzpatrick1009
      @feuzpatrick1009 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Off-Track Family Yes your are right it is build for offroad and all these rough staff. If you have the chance to inspect a disassambled 110 then you know what I mean. I have saw to many. But many thanks for you detailed reports for us Landrover enthusiasts.👍

  • @randytan01
    @randytan01 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just noticed that your paint is a matte finish, did you have your truck re-painted at some point in time? Mine is a shiny gray but I'm liking the matte look for sure. Oh, and probably painting the roof to body color while I'm at it.

  • @ktmwheelie
    @ktmwheelie 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    That’s not e proper sealing. Its oke but you make some mistakes.
    The roof is sealed with putty and you have to remove the old dried putty. As second take the tape straight away or may you lift the sealant and water will get in again...

    • @offtrackfamily
      @offtrackfamily  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      As said in the video we share our experience as enthusiasts and hope to help 4wd owners to take care of their car.

    Great video thanks for the share. Need some advice regarding my roof. Its basically leaking at the seams/joints and also in the middle where there is no joint, paint is also flaking and bubbling, think the last owner tried to fix it without success. It's entire Landrover is currently coated in Raptor (like old style artex). Wanting to get rid of all the flaking, cleaning off with white spirits the primering use Sika flex 521 UV on the joints and then painting the entire roof with bitumen, would also consider using some rust repellent before treating would this be a good idea or not with the bitumen thanks any advice would be great

    • @offtrackfamily
      @offtrackfamily  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! About bitumen, I'm not sure that it's necessary. The most important is to locate the water ingress points. You just need some sikaflex to stop it leaking. One of the most strategic point is the joint between the roof and windscreen at the front like in the video. Don't hesitate to give us your feedback.
