The first time I heard this song was CHRISTmas 2016 on The Johnny Cash 1979 CHRISTmas Special. Absolutely emotional 😭😭🤧 This show is just absolutely brilliant fantastic. It has Tom T Hall singing his own old favourites. So emotional and Andy Kaufman he's the tall slim foreigner with the high squeaky voice from the USA sitcom called Taxi. He does something SPECTACULAR, WOW ...and gentle lady Anne Murray. I'm going to get the lyrics and print this out. Thank you for posting. Merry CHRISTmas!! 🎅🏻🤶🏻☃️🎄🎁🙏🏻 💛💙💛💙💛💙 💝💖💗💝💖💗 🇯🇲🕊️🏴👑🤴🏻✝️
This always has held a special meaning between my mother and I. When I was young she used to read it to me and then when I was grown and she was sick I read it to her alongside other things.....Cash does it with such feeling.
My mother loved this song by Johnny. I never understood it when I was a boy, but because of her, I do now. Bless those that have needs and bless those that give gifts. Blessed be all who know such caring.
I had this Christmas album as a child. I listened to this poem rocking in my rocking chair every Christmas. I recited it later as a teenager. I never knew until more recently that it was an Edna St Vincent Millay poem
I had to read this for my school and I couldn't understand anything it said! But then I went on youtube and found this! Now I understand this poem completely! THANK YOU LIFESAVER!
When my grandmother heard Johnny Cash recite this, she felt truly touched and was crying by the end of the poem. I always remembered this poem and when I found it in the school English Book,I made a copy-which I have to this day.
I was 20 years old when I heard this song, I have been looking for the song for 40 years, every year at Christmas time.. I 'd think of it, and wish I could hear it, just one more time. Today, I thought on youtube, dare I look. just one more time ? I knew if it wasn't there. I would never hear it again !! Thank You for sharing this beautiful poem ~ and for making this womans dream come true. Bless you, and Johnny...Rest in Peace ~with love Arlene
My God how deep. This man is true example for born again person. To start in darkness and end in light to live his life in holy fight :) He is with God - I do believe so.

There is magic in a mother's love for her child.
This is such a heartbreakingly beautiful song. God truly had a hand in the creation of this.
Yes He did.

This always gets to me because the Way Johnny did it -he made you feel every word, every sentence.

I first read this when in grade school in the early 60s. I cried then and now. Well done Johnny Cash

7th grade English 1970 required recital. I chose this one. It still moves me
The emotions hit me so hard when I first read this poem. Johnny Cash told it beautifully here.

I have this album of his. This Spirit of Christmas.
One of the great poems of winter and Johnny shows he knows the difference......there is an LP where Edna St Vincent Millay recites her own poem...
Classic still
