Don’t get me wrong it doesn’t matter which way you pronounce it. It’s just that I wanted to share what I know. Your tireka is still awesome!!! Berta !!!!

Thank you! Actually the R in Sherlock is not completely silent but the L is in Holmes. I pronounce names as I would read them as a native Amharic speaker would without any prior knowledge as to how they are pronounced. And our translators usually translate what they read and not how it is actually pronounced. So reading a book in Amharic letters and trying to pronounce it correctly every time a name comes is going to add a lot more to the editing process, so I just read what’s written. For example the story I uploaded after this (ሰላይ ነኝ) had a name (Alejandro) translated throughout the book with the hard J (አሌጃንድሮ) because the translator had no prior knowledge of the actual pronunciation of the name. I tried to correctly pronounce it but it was a hard process.
After all we have been giving our own pronunciation to foreign names since time immemorial, like Aristotle and Plato are አሪስጣጣሊስ and አፍላጦን respectively lolll! We have to keep the tradition going lol.
Thank you for watching and for your input 🙏🏾

I completely agree with everything you said, especially about the pronunciation of the Amharic translation of the original book. It's no wonder we're all struggling to get it right! But hey, as you pointed out, we Ethiopians have always had a unique way of pronouncing foreign names, right? So, as long as we're conveying the intended message, it doesn't matter how we pronounce it, does it? And can I just say, your videos are absolutely amazing! I've watched almost all of them, and I think you are doing such a great job. Keep up the excellent work, and God bless you!
