      Canucks winning the cup next year

      The Oilers can win next year provided they are honest with themselves this offseason and are able to fix a few of the broken pieces. The widely spread story is that they were dominant in this year's playoffs and came within a two goals of a Stanley Cup. At face value this is true but their run to the Cup was drastically different than, say, the Panthers. The Panthers were dominant and dictated their way to the finals. Edmonton played well but relied on a few external factors to go their way. First off, LA was a pretty easy opponent. Not a stretch for the Oil to beat them. Then came the Canucks. The Oilers would have lost that series if Vancouver wasn't missing Demko. I believe this almost objectively. If the Oilers had of lost that series, Edmontonland would be in crisis right now. Another early exit. A year before McDavid and Draisaitl's contracts are up. Also, Vancouver had Petterson as a no-show. My point is the Oilers barely beat a second rate Vancouver. They were lucky. Then came Dallas which was a better test but Dallas flipped the 'off' switch halfway through the series. Something weird happened and it felt like the Stars gave up. Again, Edmonton received a good roll of the dice here. Lastly, the Oilers met the Panthers and were whipped into a 3-0 submission hold. The Oilers finally met a real team and couldn't come close to competing. Then the dice rolled again in their favor and Florida choked on their own success and inflated egos. It was not a case of Edmonton figuring out Florida. Figuring out how to beat the Panthers' system. It was literally a case of Edmonton jumping on a golden opportunity. Now kudos to Oil for rallying instead of giving up after being punished 3-0 in the series. I'll give them that. However, the proof is in the pudding, as they say and Florida found their game again and delivered the game seven knock-out blow. This is not to crap on the Oilers or lessen the positives from this playoff run. It is the contrary. It's necessary to isolate where and why they were weak and where, why and how they got lucky. They need to isolate those factors and correct them. Start now. Don't wait for October. If they can do that, maybe even just fix half of the issues with the team (bad defense, two-man team up front and avoiding McD and Drai getting shut down), then they will win the Cup next year.

      Let's see, on average a Canadian team makes the final every 6 years, I'm 63 now, so by my calculations I'll be dead ⚰by time a Canadian team wins it all, so it doesn't really matter. ....... next team to make the SC finals in 2030 will be Ottawa..

    I cheer more for the individuals and their journey. The players get a day with the Stanley cup which is a special way to complete the journey. This isn't the NFL where owners take the credit and trophy for their personal display.

    Honestly it’s just been bad luck. There’s been 7 times since '93 that a Canadian team has competed for a cup and 4 of them have gone to 7. Any of those games go the other way and you wouldn’t hear this as much.

    Now that the Canucks core have playoff experience and know what to expect, plus the fact that all of the free agents seem to be re-signing for less than they are worth instead of shopping themselves elsewhere to get more money, the Canucks are looking absolutely BEEFED for success. I’d say they are far more likely to win than Edmonton. Edmonton didn’t win their series against Vancouver and Dallas this year. Vancouver and Dallas lost those series. Both teams played way better than Edmonton did, but lost their own handles. It wasn’t until game 4 of the SCF that Edmonton showed up. They are far too inconsistent in my opinion. They have to be lucky enough to have other teams choke while they have their own bursts. Canucks have been so incredibly consistent the last 1.2 seasons with skill that it’s hard to ignore them. Next season they will be ready to pace themselves and improve their already top tier team dynamics. As long as they can stay healthy, they will be a force to behold.

    I am sick to death of this narrative.
    Do american fanbases root for each other when facing a canadian team? Most of them dont give a damn, I actually saw arguments this year that most liked edmonton over a dislike of the state of florida...
    are new yorkers , californians, or pensylvanians compelled to cheer for the Rangers, Ducks or Penguins if they're in the final?
    canadian fans want their team of choice to win, anything else and most of them will be bitter AF regardless,

    • @TheBluelineHockey
      @TheBluelineHockey  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      When an entire nation hasn't won a cup in 30+ years, it gets people riled up. What's wrong with most of Canada rooting for the Oilers? They're a really strong team.
