With a back 3 the wingbacks don't NEED to be as aggressively defensive as full backs. But only if they are prepared to run the yards, They don't need to be tackling and sliding in, because there will be sufficient support in the back 3. Obviously having a great natural wing back who can tackle is good, but as long as they are able to match the run of a winger on the break, track back and cut off passing lanes and push players away from where they want to go that gives time for the defensive shape to get into position. Ironically, if his end product had been good enough, someeone like Dan James would probably have been great in that side of the game. He was a great help to the defence by just keeping up with fullbacks and wingers on the counter, forcing them wide, and cutting down their passing options and reducinh the threat through the centre. And it wasn't through skill that he did that, it was just basic positioning and being prepared, and fit enough, to run the wings. If one of our wide players with actual talent in the final third is prepared to do the hard work, there's no reason why Garnacho or Antony shouldn;t be able to do that. I struggle to imagine Marcus Rashford ever doing that, but it would be great if he tried it a bit more. To people who say this was also hyped when Ten Hag came in, so Amorim isn't gonna make any difference, The thing is Ten Hag was tactically too disciplined and abandoned his players' strengths and weaknesses. For eg, he asked Case or Ugarte to play as a sole DM when they lacked athleticism (case) or passing range (Ugarte). He was never ready to adapt to the players we have and hence he was sacked. I'm not saying Ruben gives freedom to his players or I'm entirely positive about Ruben. I'm just saying we need to give time to managers. There's nothing we can do besides supporting through the thick. Let's just wait for what Ruben will bring to the table. I'm neither optimistic nor pessimistic.
One of the most worrying things about this was seeing our wage bill compared to our position every season. We need to offload some of these players on big wages that aren't playing, I think the manager needs to get the best out of the players we have before we start buying new ones.
I think people don’t understand that a new manager with a new formation doesn’t magically make these players play amazing. They haven’t been able to do it under previous managers because they’re simply just not good enough, and that isn’t going to change.
When Spurs played a back 3 under Conte they looked a lot more solid in their first season, but you need specialist players, especially as a wing back and Utd dont have those players at the moment, Spurs had to play fullbacks there till they were able to sign Pedro Porro who was one of the best right wing backs in Europe, who played under Ruben at Porto. It is going to take them time to adjust and i think it might take them a couple of seasons to get the kind of squad Ruben will need to be able to compete at the top of the Premier league
Excited to see how it goes but also trying to not have expectations. These players have been underperforming all season and it might take time to change their mentality.
Dave - dont you think Garnacho would be better at the RWB position as the "Frimpong Role" where he starts out as a RWB but really hes cheating defensively to become a de-facto "winger" on the right side and have Yoro cover that outside flank as a hybrid centerback/rightback similar to how Alonso's leverkusen side sets up - where the inside 10 drops in the right or left half spaces to allow to the wingback to push into the final third? Garnacho has interesting profile that could really develop his game there for a couple of years before becoming that dominant winger hes destined to become
With all due respect, no way. Amorim's wingbacks are true wingbacks. 1v1 defending outside their box, alongside attacking duties. Garnacho wants to be the next Ronaldo. He won't do LWB. I truly fell Ruben has been left with some top talent to shape into a winning team. For sure a lot to move on. Couple this with the absolutely outrageous talent coming through our academy and I think it is inevitable that another few genuine world class young players will follow in the steps of Mainoo and Garnacho before season ends. So far he has shown he is not afraid to blood young players if good enough.

I don't see him playing Rashford there. I think Rashy gets the no9 gig at Ipswich and he's immediately on a clock. Will need to convince in or he's in trouble next summer.
garnacho will not pass to the striker..he wants to be like ronaldo so thats why everytime he had the ball he will shoot..this is why he can't be the wingback in this system
Always thought Antony was a LWB and I support the idea of him being tried there. If it’s clear by January it’s not working, Fernandez still has a low buy back..
Rashford won’t work hard enough to play one of the 10 roles, he is a sprint player not that constant motion player Amorim will demand, I think he will be fighting with Hojland for the 9 role. Just as a crazy team selection though could you imagine Amad and Nacho as wingbacks with Zirkzee as a lone 10 then Rashford and Hojland as dual strikers. I’d like to see it once maybe in a cup game against lower opposition.
I've been shouting for inverted wingers to get dropped from our team for years now. Let's get lefties on the left and righties on the right. Make the pitch bigger, protect the ball in possession and chancd creation would increase. Why are we trying to do Messi, Robben or Salah things when we don't have those players. Rescue Antony's career. Give him the chance at LWB
Man I love your content, and honestly really appreciate your opinions generally. But as a Dutch citizen and proud Ajax fan… De Ligt cannot play in the center of a back 3. I love Matthijs but a three back has never suit him at Bayern the national team and Juve. If you’re gonna play that, at least play him on the right so he can be more aggressive in the press. De Ligt has a lot of attributes, but playing a covering role in the middle of a three doesn’t fit him at all. Defending forward De Ligt is great, judging spaces and staying in line not so much…
Those Luke shaw and Malcia legs are made up of Glasses....one tackle and then they are out for atleast half of the season 😂😂😂😂 We seriously need a LB ... I would love to see Anthony as LWB !!
@@StatmanDave One of those decisions that if ETH was moved on end of last season we could have kept him and maybe got rid of other players to make way. Such a pity

Garnacho is only interested in scoring. There is no possibility he would want to play wing back. Amorim’s WBs sacrifice themselves completely for the team, often there just as a decoy.
No way Garnacho plays as a wingback. He’s selfish, his passing is poor. He likes to run at the opposition, it will be quite the transition if Amorim was to pull it off. He has no defensive skills and lacks the work rate
I hope so, i wish it. But we will see. Other clubs dont stand still, they too develop, buy new players, learn the tactics of new managers etc. So we will see.
Garnacho as a wing back is a stupid idea. The boy played as forward where he always make horrible decisions and wanted to shoot at 1st sight. What make you think he will change his game when his job in the wing back is to assist and help defending?
The system and patterns of play need to be strict. Our players lack chemistry and football IQ. Amorim needs to play mental games to keep them motivated too because they have weak menatalities.
This guy says Garnacho has been one of our best players... I'm already questioning things. I also see Rashford as the right 10 and Amass who won't sniff this squad🤔🤔.
Garnacho on the wing back position is a no no no for me. Like u said he's having issues with decision making even on his actual position, what do u thing he's decision making will be like playing him out of position. 2ndly, u want to put our most consistent attacker since last season on a wing back? Everything good that has happened to us since last season has had Garnacho in it, this season he has contributed to most goals already n u want him in a position we all know he'll struggle in? Put anyone else there but Garnacho... Antony, Dalot, even Amas. U think Garnacho will do a better job at wing back than Amass??? If we run out of options, fix Amass there, it'll be a better thing to do than having Garnacho play there

Not a utd fan but im actually interested to see how utd will play under amorim
you have to be kidding me
mason mount will work better than marcus rashford in that lineup
Rashford is done uner this manager imo 🤷♂️
Great analysis as always Dave!
Statman Dave 🤝 Making Sure Rashford is included no matter what
Excited to see how it goes but also trying to not have expectations.
This is probably the most indifferent I've been about a manager coming to Man Utd.
I don't think anything changes with these players
With the injuries at cb currently we could see mazraoui rcb garnacho rwb and get antony training at lwb!
With all due respect, no way. Amorim's wingbacks are true wingbacks. 1v1 defending outside their box, alongside attacking duties. Garnacho wants to be the next Ronaldo. He won't do LWB. Rashford won't do that. Amad too good and plays like Trincao.
A toss-up opinion: The other midfielder spot is up for grabs. Amorim used a defensive box to box Morita (Mainoo) next to Hjulmand (Ugarte), but also an attacking b2b Braganca. Bruno could fill that, what with his long ball addiction.Basically a traditional 433.
Van Gaal in MUtd played with back 3 way before those mentioned in the video. And humiliated Spain on the world cup as well and got 3rth LOL
Top work Dave 👏🏽
That formation gives all diamond shape playing so 2 other players are always close by
everyone are making new vids, making bank 💰 off of man utd thru their yt content.
everyone’s getting excited but i’m not falling for it. i’m praying this Amorim guy succeed.
with the players we have we have seen them perform well under a new manager for minimum 1 year and everything goes south. stop playing for the team and the manager.
we will see. but i’m not falling for it.
I don't see him playing Rashford there. I think Rashy gets the no9 gig at Ipswich and he's immediately on a clock. Will need to convince in or he's in trouble next summer.
It still baffles me that Rashford is still considered in the playing 11 when he should have been shipped 2 seasons ago.
No matter what Ruud Van is my united future manager he's perfect than any other Coach that comes
garnacho will not pass to the striker..he wants to be like ronaldo so thats why everytime he had the ball he will shoot..this is why he can't be the wingback in this system
Defending forward De Ligt is great, judging spaces and staying in line not so much…
Those Luke shaw and Malcia legs are made up of Glasses....one tackle and then they are out for atleast half of the season 😂😂😂😂
We seriously need a LB ...
I would love to see Anthony as LWB !!
Mct would have been great in one of the 10s
100%
@@StatmanDave One of those decisions that if ETH was moved on end of last season we could have kept him and maybe got rid of other players to make way. Such a pity
Dave you cooked in this video as always
Next season whole lot need to be replaced.
Rashy, Shaw, Anthony 😂
this is great content
Already seen hundreds of versions of this exact video
There have lots of Amorim 3-4-3 videos but this one is insightful and unique. For example, which other video did you hear how setting up 3-4-3 will allow united to be nimble in the transfer market?
Dave always has more... I'm certain none of the "hundreds" you watched touched on alternative market in recruitment ...
Might see mount in one of the 10's and rashford upfront in some games.
I hope amorim is like neo the one. im sick of being back then, not then" back been back more time's then a pro as had men and that's a lot 😂😂😂
I hope so, i wish it. But we will see. Other clubs dont stand still, they too develop, buy new players, learn the tactics of new managers etc. So we will see.
I honestly think mount if he stays fit would thrive under the new manager
I cant wait for February s video entitled "why Amorims tactics aren't working at United" 😂😂
😂😂 I see it coming
Amorim United with signings ??
Keepers: Onana, Bayindir
CCB: De Ligt, Branthwaite
RCB:Yoro, Dalot, Diomande
LCB: Licha, Murillo
LWB: A.Davis, Garnacho, Amass
RWB: Maz, Quenda
CM: Mainoo, Ugarte,Carlos baleba, Rigg
RAM: Amad, mount
LAM: Bruno, kvra
ST:Højlund (Gyokeres) rashford
Football manager 25😅
Hopefully they score goals like Atalanta with the 3421
Garnacho as a wing back is a stupid idea. The boy played as forward where he always make horrible decisions and wanted to shoot at 1st sight. What make you think he will change his game when his job in the wing back is to assist and help defending?
How many times have we heard this and how many times have things changed?
If we get a clear formation of play and players to fit in we can do it believe me all long we hard no style of play and 11
Great video, love the point of shopping in alternative markets to other big clubs. Hadnt thought of it.
why did you stop the music in the background for these vids?
Please discuss how Nottingham Forrest are so good this season it would be a great video idea or anyone in the comments please tell me?
With the passage of time everything will be unfolding
The system and patterns of play need to be strict. Our players lack chemistry and football IQ. Amorim needs to play mental games to keep them motivated too because they have weak menatalities.
This guy says Garnacho has been one of our best players... I'm already questioning things. I also see Rashford as the right 10 and Amass who won't sniff this squad🤔🤔.
Peaks and trophies? You're a poet!
Dave man, get a pop filter for your mic.
Garnacho this, Garnacho that. LMAO
you dont think garnachos and amads lack of passing skill is not a problem? It has been this season
Ruben will have a good rest of the year then finish 6th or 7th then it’ll all fall apart
Stop signing new striker. Promote Chido Obi Martin. He can be a 100 million euro striker in one season.
Everyone of these *"experts"* have amad on the bench under amorim??
Watch amad and mainoo be the first names on the team sheet.😮
Garnacho on the wing back position is a no no no for me. Like u said he's having issues with decision making even on his actual position, what do u thing he's decision making will be like playing him out of position. 2ndly, u want to put our most consistent attacker since last season on a wing back? Everything good that has happened to us since last season has had Garnacho in it, this season he has contributed to most goals already n u want him in a position we all know he'll struggle in? Put anyone else there but Garnacho... Antony, Dalot, even Amas. U think Garnacho will do a better job at wing back than Amass??? If we run out of options, fix Amass there, it'll be a better thing to do than having Garnacho play there
I’ve seen the same video from you on the last 5 managers
all teams overperform but Man Utd will be the exception🤣🤣
I don't think garnacho can play as a wing back coz his weak foot I prefer Anthony as a wing back because of the cross inside the box
Imo back 3 is short term success
We all thought eth will play ajax football until he said he will never play that football.
Amorim said he'll play his style from the off.
The problem is not tactical but player themselves dave...
Garnacho is not a wingback. Ffs. He needs to play in attack.
Who are these guys going to cross to, Zirkzee? No wonder they refuse to cross.
We all know Rashford will sulk, down tools and throw him under the bus
"Frankely" 😂
