    My wife was born in Taiyuan! We were married in Taiyuan 2016.....so yes I have heard of it.....ha ha....thanks for the trip down memory lane....they also cook spicy food similar to Chongqing

    The reason why so much ancient Chinese architecture has survived in Shanxi is because the province has a very dry climate, which helps to preserve the wood of the temples and statues.

      It was the last province the communists took over after KMT beat the Japanese army. Local people didn't want to destroy ALL of their cultural heritage during the cultural revolution, like in other parts of China.

      It is also because the Chinese use Tung oil to preserve their wood. China is the only producer of Tung oil and the west recently discovered it. The beauty of Tung oil is that it is natural and non-toxic. Chinese use it on their wooden chopping block.

      Another reason that shanxi was rich in the past (so there were a lot of buildings) and relatively poor in modern time (so less likely to build new things on the sites where old buildings are standing)

    I did visit Taiyuan about 16 years ago. Was visiting a friend In Beijing and we drove there to visit her brother. It was a great trip.

    A Chinese living in a island in Pacific here🙋‍♂️. My hometown is Pingyao, only half an hour high speed train from Taiyuan. It’s an ancient town and a world heritage site. It’s must-visit place of Shanxi Province.

    My hometown! I left Taiyuan 20 years ago. The city has evolved so much and there have been so many projects built for the city. It’s so impressive now. Also we’ve got the most ancient buildings in China. Hope more people will visit Shanxi to experience China’s heritage.

    Thanks for the video Lee and Oli. ShanXi is the home to the ancient Jin state back to the east zhou dynasty(the Spring and Autumn period). They exist almost the same time as the ancient Greece. During this period China was divide into several small and large states. Jin is one of the super power at that time. I highly recommand to have a visit to the acient capital of other big states like, qi(shandong), qin(shaanxi), chu(hubei) You can learn from the history and stories on what cause a state to fall and thrive.

    Shanxi history dates back to 4700 years ago, right at the beginning of China's history. The archaeology site of Tao Si is believed to be the capital of Emperor Yao and Emperor Shun, two of the 5 great emperors at the dawn of the Chinese civilization.

    Welcome to my hometown! I'm sooo excited to see this video, i strongly recommend you to take a night tour in Yingze Park迎泽公园.Ancient buildings with lights on are REALLY astonishing in the night! I spent a year in Durham for my master degree in 2018. I really missed Northeast England, lovely Durham, Newcastle, Sunderland, York, Hartlepool, stockton on tees.etc. Fish and chips, crackheads, tough guys.

Back then Taiyuan was still a dirty and polluted industrial city, now it has completely changed especially in the last five years and it’s becoming more and more beautiful! Shanxi is home to 5000 years of history and you can eat many different types of noodles! And we also have Shanxi mature vinegar! Can’t wait to go back to my second hometown after the pandemic!     my hometown Taiyuan city. never thought you guys would be there. so am quite surprise to open TH-cam and your video jump into view... now am living in Shanghai and close to Century Park which you took video around in Century Avenue. we are far away but sometimes really close. hope can a chance to meet you someday

    The chef making hand pulled noodles at the end was really impressive. Western media would have claimed those thinly pulled noodles was made from a pasta machine! 😜

      They would claim that the chef are forced to pull noodles and people are forced to eat noodles every day lol

    ShanXi is like, if you randomly dig a hole somewhere, you'd most likely find some ancient artefact (well the same could be said with all their other ancient cities) 😂 it has such rich history its amazing. Hey not sure if you guys like museums much, but it would be interesting if you guys could how us the Sanxingdui Museum in Sichuan Province one day :D

      it's not accurate. There are many underground relics in Shaan Xi province. the popularity of Shan Xi province is more depend on terrestrial cultural relics. Shaanxi province is next to Shanxi province,but it's different. 😁

      我家祖上是晋中太谷的,前几年去了一次,把我震惊了,古建筑太多了… 山西文化遗产保留得比较好。
      我爷爷指着县城中间的鼓楼说:“我小时候在那儿玩”..
      其他省市基本都拆完了。山西还剩很多。不知道当地官员能不能意识到这些玩意儿在经济发展起来以后是不可复制的瑰宝,价值连城。

      @@strategicfooyouagencyfirst8197 陕西也比北京保护的好,说白了是发展的晚,早期对古建筑保护不重视(因为中国人经过100年的战乱,贫困,没有意识到中国古代文明的珍贵)。晚发展的城市保护的好,是因为过去没钱建设,等有钱建设的时候,文物保护意识已经在全国范围内得到广泛宣传,地方政府也意识到这是发展旅游经济的重要途径

    政府花钱建造这些公园供人民休闲娱乐,看着是根本收不回来的成本,因为根本就不收费,怎么能收回成本,但这就是中国伟大之处,虽然看着好像收不回成本,其实它比收回成本更有价值,一个地区的百姓,生活在如此的环境里,人民会安居乐业,衣食无忧,自然会认为共产党为人民做的很好,当然会拥护国家政府,那换来的就是国家的和平稳定,一个和平安定的国家,同时再齐心合力建设国家,你们想想发展能不快吗。这就是5000年文化历史下的国家底蕴,我估计老外是不会明白的,即使你明白,也不一定能学会,因为你们是以资本利益为基础的国家,看到的只是眼前的利益,根本看不到未来。
