1978 Annual Black History Month Exhibit
    February 15 to March 22
The Black History Exhibit focuses on art created by acclaimed black artists who exhibit nationally and internationally. This year's exhibit features Michael Cummings, nationally acclaimed quilt artist, and one of a handful of male quilters in a medium dominated by women. Drawing inspiration from Africa and the art of African Americans, his striking quilts reflect his keen sense of history and his reverence for the spiritual. Inspired by Romare Bearden, Mr. Cummings sees quilting as a way to tell stories while merging tradition with new materials and techniques. His works are in the collections of Bill and Camille Cosby, Whoopi Goldberg among others.
1978 is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 2 to 5pm during exhibitions. The opening reception is Sunday, February 22, from 2 to 6 PM.
