Celebrating Britain's 5000 Year Old Festival in 2024

- The celebration of summer solstice is arguably the oldest tradition we have in the British Isles (as anywhere really) and its still going on today. And there's no better place to celebrate it here than at Britain's most famous and yet one of its most mysterious ancient sites - Stonehenge. So I joined 15,000 other people in June 2024 to see what's its like to celebrate an ancient festival in the modern age.

Ollie, another enjoyable watch, looks like a "fun" festival. I'm just glad that Stonehenge was repaired after the 1985 accident that involved Clark Griswold "Chevy Chase" backing his car into the stones and knocking them all over.....

Nice video, it always amuses me how the Druids have somehow hijacked the whole Stonehenge thing when it was in fact built at least 2000 years before the Druids even existed!!!
And modern Druidism is essentially barely 200 years old - with totally concocted ceremonies, dress and regalia.

What a fine analysis and report of the solstice event. It's a danged good job it wasn't cloudy and raining the whole night through eh? My guess is that you could take a cross-section through any summer pop festival type gathering and you've got your young and old, rich and poor Stonehenge crowd profile right there. Personally I missed the whole "drumming and festival dancing" thing: I was more of an air guitar teenager so no hope for me hahaha I hope someone has the honesty to return your gopro.

I was there last year and was really changed in a spiritual way i didn't know existed in me. Unfortunately covid stopped me from attending this year but i will be back, no doubt.
Hawkwind played there in 1984.
I love watching videos like this. It always cheers me up to see that, no matter how far down the mental slippery dip I might have fallen with the inexorable advancing years, there are still poor sods whose brains have turned to mush at much younger ages. 😉😊

A celebration of complete cobblers. All that is known about the Druids comes from Roman writers who were not the best or most disinterested sources. The Druids were a completely different culture from the people who built Stonehenge. It is not even clear whether Stonehenge is really about the summer solstice. There is a second site at Durrington Walls which may be a better candidate for a place to celebrate the summer solstice (no stones there, though). The druidic cobblers about Stonehenge started in the modern era with William Stukeley (1697-1765). I wish they would leave the stones alone instead of damaging them.
