      Awesome just found this video after a fully ruptured patella tendon.
      It's been about 6 months after with physio. Was wondering how I could get back into some cardio that obviously would have to be low impact and low and behold I stumbled upon your page.
      I find it remarkable how overlooked walking is. Thank you x 3 for this video good sir.

    I am 83 years old and I walk for a minimum of 1 hour a day, some times up to 3 hours a day. I am what is known as a super ager. I am very fit and am never ill, I do not take any medication of any sort, so yes walking does work and it is what we are made for.

    • @WalkingforHealthandFitness
      @WalkingforHealthandFitness  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Hello @barryherbaut286, I love the term super ager! One of my inspirations for fitness was my uncles father. Mr. O walked everywhere all the time (this was in the 70's). When I got my drivers license in 1980 I would stop for him and offer a ride to the top of a very long hill. His reply was always the same, "no, I have to get my walk in." He walked 4-6 miles a day even when he was in his early 90's (he lived to be 96). When I needed to get my back healthy after my injury, he came to mind during those early walks. By walking I got stronger physically and felt better emotionally. He was on to something all those years ago. Thanks for sharing your story. Walk on, Frank

During lunch, I don't sit to eat, I either go for a walk downtown or sometimes in a park nearby. And if the weather's fine, I walk around my neighborhood in the evening for 30min. I never take the car if I have to go someplace I must be less than 2 or 3 kilometers. Hope my answer satisfies you. (you'll excuse me for my mistakes, I'm French)

      I can believe it. I'm 42 and I walk about 20 to 25 miles a week. Several years back, I used to walk 2 miles to work everyday and I was healthier than coworkers who were 10 and 15 years younger than me. And what's crazy about it is, that I ate fast food for lunch 80% of the time. I rarely got sick, and if I did, I'd be over it in a day or 2 and I had more energy than a lot of coworkers who relied on energy drinks.

    I use to walk on my treadmill (with incline) 35 minutes everyday.
    Last year I began walking 70 minutes every other day.
    I’m not sure with the metabolic rationale is…
    ..I was losing fat weight much faster vs the everyday 35 minutes.
    On the days that I don’t 70 minute treadmill…
    I lift weights including heavy lg press.

    As your mileage increases, your bodies efficiency to the activity improves which lowers the calories per mile. No number given for calories is constant. IMO, a big benefit of a long walk is burning out available glucose so that ketones can grow and be used.

    Walking 35 feet from my kitchen to my bedroom to my kitchen is a long walk for me after six MAJOR strokes and having to learn to WALK AGAIN five times!!! I walk from the parking lot to the supermarket (no "capper tag thank you) and walk thru the store pushing a cart. I'm seventy, and can't lift but 20 pounds TOTAL shoulder high on a good day. I'm SUPPOSED to have "home healthcare" and "maid service" but I've never gotten them. I can "two-finger" type for about ten minutes before my hands shake too bad, but I cook, clean, wash dishes, wash my clothes, wash myself, change my bed, live alone and safely drive (had to take a driving test). Many 25 year-olds can't do those things today. It takes me 30 minutes+ to go thru the supermarket and I'm exhausted-and it's NOT a big store. I'm honestly AFRAID to walk outside by myself. What if I can't get back to my car??? I'm single, live alone, can't find "human walker" services...

Walking on a local high school track may be a good solution to your fears about walking alone. They are usually used by the general public during no school hours, so I you will have people around you. My local track gets busy at around 5pm most evenings, and since the track has lights, many people are running, walking, and doing general workouts up until the lights go out at 9pm. Just continue walking! Also, Do you have a shopping mall near you? Mall walking is a great way to be around other people and still get in a workout. I wrote this article some time ago. I hope it encourages you:

    Another excellent video. Very well presented! My favorite long walk starts at the Duck pond in Ridgewood, NJ and goes south to the Saddle Brook border and back 12.5 miles total. It's on a walking/bike path. NO CARS! It's mostly shaded except for a section at the southern end. At the northern end, about a 1/2 mile off the trail is a Starbucks. It's my go to when I do this walk.

    I weighed 130kg, blood pressure range 140/90 mmHg, fasting blood sugar about 6.0 mmoL. My doctor advised me to start medications which I refused because all I care about at that time was my kidney health. So I had the urge to do walking since I'm heavy and couldn't do jogging and going to a gym is such a fussy activities. Had been long walking for over a year now, only stop when its raining season but I adjusted my schedule since raining always come in the evening so I walk in the morning instead. As a result, current blood pressure range 120/60 mmHg, fasting blood sugar around 4.0 mmoL and I lost over 60kg in a year! Keep moving everyone! No other medicines are better than a healthy lifestyle!
    P/S : Of course long walking must be paired with healthy diets. Overall I just practicing calorie deficits eating style. I usually do intermittent fasting once or twice a week. Reduced intakes of junks food especially those that are high in sugar. I started to eat only REAL foods & sometimes nibbling on unhealthy snacks when I craved for ones otherwise fruits would be my first choice!

      Hello @theassassin8057, I have a smile on my face reading how you took charge of your health and fitness!!! Fantastic and well done! I love that you used walking to help you lose weight and get your vital numbers into better range. But more important is that you changed your diet, reduced calories, ate healthy "real" foods. Also, this is vital and often overlooks, you did satisfy your cravings for the "less than healthy snacks. Those snacks do taste so good and ultimately we do need to enjoy life, and a really tasty "unhealthy" snack does the trick. I crave a good bowl (or two) of ice cream on the weekends. Thanks for watching my video and sharing your story... it's inspiring and I hope others see what is possible with walking and diet change. Walk on, Frank

    One could argue (and I do) that walking is the single best thing you can do for your health. It is because it has such a low barrier to entry and not quitting (jogging could probably be better, but much more difficult to stay with). Also, I believe walking can have benefits even if under an hour. If you only can do shorter walks, I think you still are benefiting greatly because you are adding a positive habit to your life. This can eventually have the effect of making you think of other life "hacks" (e.g. start saving money, eat heatlhier). I also agree with the body weight thing... I plan many of my "favorite walks" around where I can find pull up bars, stairs, and other exercise challenges.

    • @WalkingforHealthandFitness
      @WalkingforHealthandFitness  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello @BK-gh9us Yes I agree 100% and I will state that for me, walking is much better than jogging (running) as I was hurt so often when I ran. I also agree that developing the habit to get out and walk, even for just 15-minute can have enormous health and fitness benefits. Here's a blogpost I just updated: www.walkingforhealthandfitness.com/blog/benefits-of-a-15-minute-walk Walk on, Frank

    My job involves walking a lot. With my job alone I think I walk over 30k steps a day because I usually spend hours and hours walking around with barely rest. I also cycle about 32km (20 miles) to work and back home so it’s around 64km (40 miles) in total. In the morning before work I do 30 minutes stretching and in the evening after work I go to the gym to lift weights and all and sometimes walk my dog with my wife about an hour and a half in a park. I think I walk many and many steps if counting all tasks and activities I do. I rarely get sick and don’t feel really tired from all of my activities but I do eat a lot. I eat a lot of meals and foods but never get fat because of how active I am. This vid makes me love my lifestyle even more.

      Hello @claresmith926, the only tip I'll give to walk until you feel tired. Begin by setting a walking goal, either a time goal or distance goal, and try to achieve it. If you do it, then increase the goal. Keep in mind that you don't have to walk more and more with each walk. Some days you will feel tired and want to walk less. That ok. I do suggest finding a time to walk when you are most energetic. For me that is in the morning. Walk on, Frank

    • @WalkingforHealthandFitness
      @WalkingforHealthandFitness  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hello @mchaywood83, congratulations on walking 5 miles per day. Walking over 10,000 steps is a great goal to hit. As for weight loss; I've found that a change in routine, in this case increasing your mileage to 5 miles per day, takes the body a while to adjust to exerting so much energy to walk the 5 miles. Stick with the walking and you'll soon see results. I do suggest you write down everything you eat and find the calorie count of your food. You do say you are not eating anymore but the way to see if it's true it to track what you eat for a few weeks and total up the calories each day. There are so many hidden calories in the foods we eat that they add up quickly if your not aware of them. I've used this calorie counting method whenever I need to lose weight and I'm always surprised at how many times those little nibbles of "snacks" added up to a higher calorie intake than I thought. If you'd like more info you can contact me via my website: www.walkingforhealthandfitness.com and click the Contact Us page. I can give you more info that may be more to the point than I've written here. Walk on, Frank

    How are the negative dog encounters with walks ? I’ve had too many to count and it’s really been a hassle

      Hello Sunnyday! I've been fortunate and have only one encounter with a dog that charged me. I held my ground and told the dog to sit. While he didn't sit, he did back off and gave me a chance to walk away. I do most of my walking in a suburban setting with very few dogs that are roaming around. I do carry pepper spray with me at all times. It's comforting to know I have it in case a dog, or human gets too aggressive. Walk on, Frank

      @@WalkingforHealthandFitness yeah I carry it as well - and even carry bear spray . Most people in our area let dogs off leash at parks and trails cuz our law allows if the dog is under voice command - so you get all sorts . I have had scary situations and been bitten twice / scratched legs from a dog jumping on my legs while growling ( they were bleeding) so I am quite wary

      Hello Michael, thanks for watching. My answer is how does that feel to you? In the video I describe a long walk as over 1 hour. But everyone might have a different definition of what is long for them. If you feel good at 30k, the great! Walk on, Frank

      Hello, @chrisvinson9579, Yes, I agree the messaging keeps changing, but since my back injury in 2016, I've been consistent with my walking message. As I get older, I'm 60, and walking has kept me in great physical and emotional shape. I see myself walking and staying healthy for many years to come. Walk on, Frank

    What's considered a Long Walk?
    1 hour?
    1 1/2 hr.?
    2 hours??

      Hello Joe, thanks for watching. For the purpose of the video, I said a long walk was over 1 hour. But, a long walk might mean something different to you, depending on your fitness level and time schedule. When I began walking to get in shape after my injury, 1 hour seemed like a huge undertaking, and it took a few months to reach that mark. But as I got stronger, I found that at one hour, I was just hitting my stride, so to speak. When I'm out walking and have a problem I'm trying to work through, then I need well over an hour before my creativity kicks in. Enjoy your time out on the road and walk on. Best regards, Frank

    An Asian proverb says, Walk an hour a day, live to 100.

      Hello CJ-lj9fb, Thanks for your feedback. I believe the information in my video is very informative and has bee n helpful to many. I disagree with you about the video being a long advertisement. I give away my walking, health, and fitness information that has been helpful to many. Yes, I do mention my excellent walking products and books but it's kept to a minimum within this 29 minute video. Walk on, Frank
