I am watching right now The great boarding House bathroom caper on Sky Gold and looking at the way England was , the clothes, the cars and the way of life and no people glued to a mobile phone, takes me back to my teens, life was just as hard as today I suppose but way more simpler and more genuine.

To be honest the 70s 80s 90s were great but looking at england now it's turned into a heap of nonsensical stupidity with loads of shows scrapped cause of political correctness back then noone cared about political correctness health and safety never existed cars were cheap no mobile phone zombies

discovered the show on pbs in the mid-nineties when i moved to buffalo, ny. cannot live without 'summer wine'! my sons have watched it with me since they were old enough to stay awake until it ended @ 8:pm .... i never saw my autistic son laugh @ anything on t.v. until he saw compo @ age 8; it was unbelievable. once, when he was about 11 years old, we saw the episode where compo is yanked off a bridge by a rope tied around his waist. we were all screaming with laughter, & my autistic son actually fell off the sofa, laughing!! he turned to jello, slid down on his back, then right off.
it's still shown twice each week, & we're grateful to pbs ; :^)
peace & love to the rest of you fans :)

It came to a natural end as Roy and the cast just got too old, bless 'em, for them to continue the high quality of the show with dignity. The practicalities of time got in the way. As a friend of mine says " I wish they had the technology to regress the age of Peter Sallis 25 years, them keep him alive at that age for a thousand!" He'd be the emperor of comedy!

I've just bought the CD 'It Had to be You' on the strength of this and I can only recommend it highly to everyone. There is a real chemistry in the vocals, a real blend and mix so that each singer complements the other and the whole is more than the sum of the parts. I can remember an article in Record Collector about 7 years ago which said that Mike Sammes died after a fall at his home. The builders were throwing all his old scores away. Sad really, but he's achieved a kind of immortality here.

Bring it back. 37 years of pure brilliance from the writer Roy Clarke. Not forgetting the wonderful Peter Sallis who appeared in every single episode. Great unreplaceable program which could never be matched. Nothing even comes close.
The BBC are crazy. Where do they get the money in the first place? Yep,from us. But when it comes to what they show or what we want to watch, whose choice is that????
Google "Bring back last of the summer wine" and sign the petition if you agree.
    Great theme tune

@Skraboing649 A Great Writer with the ability to create new individual characters and good old fashioned sense of humour. Obviously Hurling down a Dale in a bath on wheels is something etched in all our minds. But there are so many more stories and laughs in there too. They kept the program alive as Brain Wilde Left and returned,oh,and left and returned. But who would have thought it would have survived after the great Bill Owen passed. But that is something it did, survived.

the first time I watched the first of three episodes about Compo dieing, I just sat there and balled my eyes out. Every time I have just about all the series copied on my Dish dvr something happens to it and we have to lose everything we have copied. I know I was shocked when I watched Throstlenest Farm one. Then when I seen his son on there after he passed I thought it was him and he hadn't passed. But it was the actors actual son.Sorry just wanted to share.

Been so many times, to Summer Wine country.. To think, I only live 4 miles from Holmfirth, the village, which was used to film, Last of the Summer Wine.. You can actually, eat at Sid's cafe, and have a holiday / vacantion in Norah Batty's house.. Loved the program and the characters too..
