Freddie Phillips, the composer and musician, is my late Granddad. After he died, I went to his house in Surrey as a 17 year old and helped clear his music room and study. It was an aladdin's cave of nostalgia and memories xx
I’m always amazed how he made such varied descriptive music with just a guitar and a couple of instruments. I can’t listen to this without so many fond memories in front of the TV with my mother and late father, who used to come home from work in the lunch hour when I was small just to watch with me.
I'm glad I read this comment. Your grandfather's work is of legend status. Do you know of other music he wrote and where I could find it? Much appreciated Adele.
If it's any consolation music has been shown to reignite memories in those with dementia, so as long as you're able to listen to this video you'll never forget Trumpton. I'm 'only' 30 and feel the exact same way, fwiw. We were around before the internet and it was an entirely different era.
I'm in my early 20s and CBeebies now shows clangers When my friend brings his grandson round one day, I'm going to introduce him to the best! Bob the builder. Thomas the tank engine, fireman Sam (not the CGI shit though) and many more classics!
Takes me right back to my formative years - I would have been infant/junior school age at the time. Brian Cant was the main voice of my childhood. I am now 53!
I met Brian Cant when I was about 10 on holiday in Norfolk staying at some pub/hotel that my dads mate owned. He was just as silly and nice in real life 😀
freddie phillips, the guy who who wrote the music for camberwick green, trumpton and chigley was a friggin genius. if you're a guitarist, try and play along with any of his stuff.his finger picking style and chord changes are amazing
Classic! They just don't make kids TV this good any more, the kids content on the BBC's been pretty much crap on a stick since towards the end of the 80s IMO.
You mean when kids were allowed to be just that, kids, unlike in these sad times when every aspect of a child's life has some PC brainwashed, neurotic adult interfering with every aspect of their development. They are being suffocated by so many layers of cotton wool, laid down in the guise of 'child protection' . These programmes take me back to far simpler, happier times.
@MikeHudson65 From my own personal viewpoint I do know why - I was simply a whole lot happier then, & this music makes me want to wrap up in cotton wool & go back to those blissful days. I also sometimes listen to the Camberwick Green theme tune: it's funny how the very same tune seems joyful & optimistic when the character is appearing but sad & downbeat when he/she is descending back into the tin.
The world was a chaotic mess even back then, if you go back and read the contemporary newspapers, but as kids we weren't aware of it, and shows like this presented a sort of idyllic world to us.
@dljc1979 Bagpuss was a classic I agree, but this also rocked IMO, back in the 80s I wanted to be a Fireman when I "grew up", or work in a Biscuit factory.
I know when as kids went out on the streets with our friends and our parents weren't afraid of letting us out but now kids can't go out on Thier own now these days me and my friends always went out we all had a group of friends but it's not like that nowadays
He probably did, then again the BBC didn't do the "Broom cupboard" gimmick with Phil Schofield till the early to mid 80's, the Trumpton trilogy came originally in the mid 60's.

They are very intricate little pieces of music and always make me smile when I hear them
He was a legend to all of us... You must be very proud.. Rest easy Freddie. 🙏💖

I spent ages learning the tag line for this.❤

I am now 70 years of age and this brings back so many memories, hope I never get dementia, it would be dreadful to forget trumpton, the clangers etc

Brian Cant is a legend! Why was he never knighted? Or made Lord Brian of Chigley? Or Baron Cant of Camberwick Green? He deserved it.
Because he wasn't Jimmy saville manipulating people 😉
Probably cos hes dead
It's funny how these tunes take you back to the good old days of innocence.

Trumpton - the new name for Washington DC. For between the next four and eight years at least.
I want to live in Trumpton!
Trumptonshire needs a film, but do not have it live action.

That's the one!
I love how Brian Cant sounds like he was recorded in a broom closet.
He probably did, then again the BBC didn't do the "Broom cupboard" gimmick with Phil Schofield till the early to mid 80's, the Trumpton trilogy came originally in the mid 60's.
Mazing tv show
Good news
In dutch translation the guys names were: Huck, Puck, Ben van de Kaai, Sjakie, Herman, Dik.
@bodsnvimto i agree whole heartedly and as a male the joyful optimism when in ascendancy could have been a referance to something else entirely
Ahhh!! .. Simple times
We thought the butler was kind of scary when sister and me were kids, lol!
Was that Bracket, Lord Bellboroughs' butler? He was in Chigley. I grew up on this stuff, the world seemed so much more innocent then.
Sending firebrigade lol
