This channel is the gift that keeps on giving - and definitely an immense shoutout to all of the badass producers willing to share their knowledge like this 🙏
Great vid! Although you are able to get that autotune sound within melodyne if you know all the functions!! Also I would recommend using a utility plugin instead of automating the vocal bus volume fader. Otherwise you can't change the vocal volume afterwards because of the automation.
Love these videos! I spend NO LESS than 4 hours a week learning. I say 4 as that is just my rule, but I spend more than that. Thanks for taking the important bits and making me learn more in faster succession!
The question about how to get the vocal volume right always makes me giggle. Not because I think that person is stupid or anything, it's a valid question, but Guy's response is so perfect - you just have to use your ears! There are some things that just take time to learn, and one of those is learning to have an ear for frequencies and volume levels. A lot of people think there are magic tricks like hitting a certain dB level on each of your tracks, and BOOM the mix will sound good - but that's not how mixing and fitting sounds together works. Sure, presence involves the volume level, but it's just as important that you're panning instruments, EQing instruments to avoid frequency build-ups or muddiness in certain areas (especially low-mids), etc. It's situational, and there may be practices that are common across your music projects, but you have to treat each song and each instrument as its own thing. This is one lesson that has become loud and clear to me as I walk into my second year of music production: learn to trust your ears - if you don't hear the vocals hitting as hard as some of your favorite tracks, then you probably need to change it!
When i started producing all i hear from pros was “just adjust your levels”, but that’s the problem, a lot of people that are initiating don’t have their ears train and probably only listen to one type of music, so they don’t have a very good reference either. I said what help me was listening to a ton of music, different genres, old, new and put my mixes in every device (car, phone, small speakers, etc). So the trick is to actually put those 10000 hours, i guess some just want the easy route.
Sol State you a god. Your videos so tight precise. Like my mixes will be after i watch your videos. (probably not, cause im dumb) PS: If you have content for explaining space in music. To have a mix so tight but at the same time so big and lush. that would be great. (or i missed it)
Love this stuff. Also do a lot of that bus fx and automation stuff. At last with logic 10.7 the automation doesn’t get stuck, and I can just go nuts with it
i just picked up harmony engine. from Antares. According to them, we don’t need all those takes when trying to create a robotic messed with sound. We shall see 😂
What he's saying about the inflator isn't technically correct, right? Since it's just a glorified waveshaper the curve slider just changes the shape of the curve, changing the type of distortion introduced to the sound

Sol State is by far the best TH-cam channel for EDM/Pop producers. As a seasoned producer I still learn a lot with you guys! Thank you :-)
Aw thanks! Cheers to being "forever a student" 🚀
I produce Hip-Hop and R&B and still this is one of the best channels. These tips are insanely useful for every genre :) Thank you so much Sol!
@@SolStateMusic :D thank u!!!

your automation organization and colour scheme was mesmerizing ahaha
So much knowledge here. Thanks!
I don't know how you do this Sol, but you upload exactly what I need, as I need it lately. Totally just looking for extra vocal spice today. Big up!
Great to hear! Just trying to share the very best tips, as always :)
Same! I just had a mix with choir vox (12 clips) open and then this hit me right when I needed it.
The average person will never understand or appreciate all the behind-the-scenes that goes into a single track. This is absolutely bonkers
I love the content that has been pumping out ever since twitch producer streams.
learning so much! Sol State Channel and Disclosure are GOLD!
Love the zoom ins on the system overload

Loved the flanger trick 😁 so simple man yet effective 💖
A treasure-trove of tips. Thanks
The choir track along with the processed vocals sounds amazing. Awesome work brother.
What a great video! Thank you!
I love disclosures sound, this is super helpful.
This channel is the best thing I've stumbled on in a very long time. Keep up the great work!
Fire as always
Always learning great stuff here, and always getting immediate inspiration to go produce!!
I see a high attack used on the choir vocals. What is the attack's effect on the groove?
excellent video. very helpful
Thank you very much for so many useful tips!
the system overload mid video was so real

simply magic! thanks for an awesome video
Anyone know what song he references at 7:55? I can’t make out what he’s saying
Lola's Theme
@@SolStateMusic thank you!
This is a dope ass community
Insane
I am guessing this can be also applied to your leads correct? Or at least worth trying?
What's that flanger plugin?
It's a stock Logic plug

What mic is he using?
I think SM7B, solid mic!
Thanks - which iMac are you using?
he use macbook pro

Cool plugin, but I think it sounds different than real vocal takes.
such tedious work!! these guys are fukin legends !!!!!
Any chance he is using the new M1 Max laptops already? If not, what is he waiting for?
What he's saying about the inflator isn't technically correct, right? Since it's just a glorified waveshaper the curve slider just changes the shape of the curve, changing the type of distortion introduced to the sound
How does he not get phase issues with that many layers?
because every take is unique with vocals
They’re multiple takes, not duplicates of the same sound. Phase cancellation and related issues only occur with identical audio
@@feelingevaporated2912 I still get phase issues if the takes are somewhat similar, especially if I am auto-tuning them.
It’s all about the little things…
You should have just the high voice singing for a little
Maybe Slate Meta tune can be an autotune killer🤣
6 people cry themselves to sleep at night
🤓
what a production is ridiculous
