It's amazing to hear the voice of Gabriel Woolf. Reprising his role of Sutekh after 49 years.
He also voiced The Beast in The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit.
Fair play to the boy, he’s 91.
At 91 and his voice is still so amazing and chilling, I tip my hat to Gabriel Woolf.
"Pyramids of Mars" one of the greatest Dr. Who stories of all time as well as Sutekh the Destroyer being one the top 10 greatest villains of all time the second ever Dr. Who story I watched on VHS as a kid.
Tales of the tardis version of it dropping thursday with updated effects!!! you know I love those!
Interesting that one of Sutekh's followers in Pyramids of Mars is called Ibrahim and we have a Colonel Ibrahim in this finale. When he salutes the arriving TARDIS, is he actually saluting Sutekh who is attached to the TARDIS? Ibrahim is also the only person who doesn't flinch when the time window breaks...
I HOPE NOT I like him 😔 But yeah, I started re watching Pyramids and noticed that myself.
@@WrensRamblings well perhaps he will redeem the previous Ibrahim. His first name is Christopher, I believe, so might we see a "Christ" figure vs. Sutekh's hell? Who knows!

I totally agree with your feelings about Mel.
I couldn't stand her character when she was with Colin Baker's Doctor.
But I so love how they are writing her character now. Definitely way better.
I love the explanation that the 73 Yards Susan is actually Susan Triad, and that the old lady causing her to run banished Sutekh from that reality, which explains why he didn't show up. That brings into question whether the old lady's purpose was to banish Mad Jack or Sutekh himself.
Perhaps both, preferably?

Very funny how almost every reactor immediately jumped to Gallifrey when Susan mentioned orange skies. Clever misdirection for Mars.
Except Mars does not have an orange sky, it is most commonly butterscotch, or pinkish or blue. But I dream of butterscotch skies does not have the same resonance.
@ianstopher9111 I think you need to watch the first 5-ish minutes of the Waters of Mars. Those sure look like orange skies to me.

An active theory from one reactor as to what's going on with the TARDIS is that when Tennant and Tate went to the edge of the universe Sutekh freed himself from the void he was trapped in from a DW post-"Mars" comic tale. So he jumped onto the TARDIS when Fourteen opened up the Pandora's Boxes with the superstitions, etc.
Counting the hours to Friday night!!!! I haven't done that since the Tennant days!!!!

Whatever happened, I think it caused 14s regeneration.
Prior to 13 regenerating into 14 the Grand Serpent had hold of the Tardis - before the reset causing the Eve of the Daleks.
Also I believe 13 found an older version of the Tardis, after a FUTURE doctor was saved by the Tardis moment after 13 fell to earth. (Fugitive)
Fugitive left the Tardis at ghost monument, putting 13s adventures out of sync explaining why 13 believed to have a hidden past, which is actually a universal rewrite/ parallel universe created by the doctor becoming the Timeless child in their personal future. - the master reborn in this timeline but found 13 not fugitive. Showing 13 her future not fugitive her past.
Creating the division timeline,
bel and vindor would be the parallel parents of the doctor- intentionality seperated by the grand serpent, leading vindor to create his own past by kicking the serpent off earth to make a deal with the trickster when time was damaged by the flux, creating the division.
(I did think Ruby was a none timelord version of the doctor, used to prevent the doctor becoming the timeless child.
I think the doctor become immortal becoming a fixed event because 1 regenerated because he seen his own future, meaning the doctor must always save galifray to create the cracks in time to become 12 to meet 1.
The Tardis reacted by dropping 13 on earth, by finding a future Tardis, becomes involved in future events.
Further theory Donna and 14 become the hybrid, the arch that lead 12 to kick rassilon off Gallifeay, after receiving a face from the timelords that convinced 12 to make Ashilda Immortal, leading 12 to trap street.
Don’t think it will be addressed this series but don’t think the TC Is forgotten, I think it was always meant to be an out of place era of the show

I was expecting He who waits to be the Black Guardian - who I think fits the pantheon setup better (back in Pyramids of Mars, Sutekh seemed to be a flesh and blood alien) - but the Black Guardian never got the combination of script and performance to make him as iconic as Sutekh. So I don't bemoan the choice.

I don't think it's unreasonable to doubt Susan Triad, but multiple reactors straight up refusing to entertain the idea that she's Susan Foreman came as a big surprise to me. We knew from the anagram and from Devil's Chord that Susan Foreman would play a bigger role this season, so it's not just the name coincidence (though we know from the goblins that coincidences do hold power here), and even after this episode, nothing has deconfirmed her importance. Sutekh never denied it, we still don't know Susan Triad's actual deal and why she kept appearing, and so on. I do agree that if Foreman is hidden among characters that we've already met that Mrs Flood is more likely now, but only after watching this episode (the importance put on the fact that Doctor hasn't had Susan's parent yet, 15 explaining regeneration for the first time to the new audience and emphasizing that it can be used to "hide ourselves away" and Flood saying almost the very next scene that she's "always hiding herself away"). regardless there's no way at this point that it's a red herring
From a storytelling perspective, it seemed far too obvious. The first option is rarely the right one, especially with the emphasis of a twist at the end throughout this season. The moment the Doctor started making decisions based on the idea she was his granddaughter, I knew she wouldn't be

Am I the only one who think's that Ruby's mum isn't pointing at the Doctor or Ruby, but the Tardis?? Was she trying to warn the Doctor? Great reaction by the way!!
Same, I thought that as well. I’m surprised that hasn’t been brought up as much as I thought it would. She could be pointing at the Tardis, like somehow, Sutekh is a reason as to why she had to abandon Ruby in front of the church. I’ve also seen some people think that it was actually the trickster who is the hooded figure, whether or not that’s true idk, but I hope it is Ruby’s mother.
@@sensiblepizza80 hmm yeah, I wonder if it's the trickster. I don't know if you've seen Who Culture's recent video on Sutekh, apparently for series 5 of the Sarah Jane Adventures (which never went ahead), there was going to be a storyline in which the trickster left a baby on Sarah's doorstep as a trap, sound familiar?
I am not sure how much timelord knowledge Rose still retains, she could be there on work experience? Why is the 13 year old wizz kid working there, not sure if the UNIT is breaching child labour laws :) but heck he is a wizzz plus an another enjoyable actor that some viewers may relate to. I am accepting that these two are working working at Unit, however I would also prefer to see Shirley Anne Bingham working there than the android/robot thing.
If you want some Mel justice, she is do SO MUCH better in the Big Finish audio adventures, if that type of medium it your thing...they are unfortunately rather pricy tho...
I have listened to a few of the Audio Dramas, though mostly been going for the free ones on Spotify so far! Need to listen to some with Mel tbh
Mel... Worse than Cameleon? He sat in a chair then turned into other people... Nope, Mel's voice was grading but she was better than Cameleon and maybe Turlough.
I consistently forget Cameleon exists I won't lie 😆 also be and Turlough both have the advantage of being paired with my favourite Doctor, which Mel doesn't have
Listen, no one is worst then Adric, nuff said.
I must disagree--I have a soft spot for Adric despite his flaws. But I do see why people dislike him
