Here’s hoping you will return after a degree of normalcy returns. Denver is especially beautiful in spring and fall. We generally have spectacular summers which have been marred lately by wildfires. As I write this, the vast majority of Colorado remains in severe drought. It is a perennial problem for us. That said, when you return (and you know you want to) check out the Denver Botanic Garden (DBG) and try and attend an open-air evening concert. Honorable mention: Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Both the museum and DBG are very close to downtown/Cherry Creek and easily accessible. And thanks for the great video of my hometown!

Really! It was already so cool, but glad they're putting more into it ... I love this type of food circus, where the vendors are not only top of their game, but the location a jewel on its own.
Denver has changed a lot in the last 20 years. Good and bad. This is pretty accurate for modern day Denver. You'll have to hit up SodoSopa next time and stay at The Villas at Kenny's House.
Great video man, most of these places have a deep history with Denver so I feel that you did get a "Denver" experience. Of course there are and will be some natives that feel that this video is crap and you only went to mainstream stuff that in words of some locals "ruining the city". But you experienced a lot of good things this city has to offer, but if and when you do come back I suggest asking true local denverites and coloradans what their favorite spots are and you will find a whole rabbit hole of Denver and Colorado that most visitors and transplants normally don't get
Thanks so much, and I totally agree. My favorite way to travel is to get dropped into a city, saddle up at a bar, and just start asking questions. It always leads to something interesting. Before the days of internet (yeah, I'm that old) I used to love travel, where you HAD to do this if you expected to see anything. Now it's more of a hack to avoiding the mainstream. That said, bars were closed, and it was the tourist board that was showing me around, so I felt I was in good hands.
4/5 is definitely a good start. It's not the largest city, but there are so many great neighborhoods to visit, and fantastic museums ... also just walking around is such a pleasure.
IMO, that would do it for the city but there's a lot more to see in the state. I'd plan at least one day to hit the mountains, even if you only make it as far as Idaho springs or Georgetown. Going down to Colorado springs is also worth it for garden of the gods. Just a few examples there. Really, it depends what you're trying to do. the city is surprisingly small. All of the locations shown here are no more than 20 mins from one another, much less in some cases. It's no NYC.

well Gaby, might be hard getting around Denver without a car these days because of COVID. It's a 30 minute ride from Union Station so you could Uber, or a 2 hour bike ride if you're up for that. There usually are buses, but because of COVID they are not running.

The highlands used to be called the Northside and it's been gentrified so bad that everyone has been forced to move out. All the yuppies came in and pushed out all the Mexicans and Chicanos who built the neighborhood. A play was written about it called Northside and played for months at Santa Fe art district.
Gentrification is a tough pill to swallow, trust me I know, I'm from NYC where hipsters were born ... I wish there was a way to incorporate existing communities while still being able to develop new culture.
Nicely done video and you appear to have done your research ... with one exception, when you refer to the Brown Palace Hotel as having "a very unfortunate name." It was named after it's builder, Henry C. Brown NOT the "color." Among an older generation the name was seen as elegant and is no more "unfortunate" than "Waldorf" is a funny-sounding name for a hotel. A hundred years ago one heard it called "The Brown" in Shanghai, or at Shepheard's in Cairo. And it was the first hotel with an atrium-style lobby. In the 1890s "The Brown" served cuisine that was the equal of any ritz house in the world. At the time, Denver was the second city of the West--second only to San Francisco and larger than Dallas, Houston or Los Angeles.
Well I do appreciate your input my friend, and yes, aware it was named after a person, not the color, but just the same, pretty unfortunate he was not Henry Mocha, Henry Auburn or even Henry Burnt-Sienna;) Just the same it is a spectacular hotel, one of the finest I've seen, rivaling anything on the East Coast for sure and a fine example of just how advanced Denver was which I don't think many are aware of. Also the fact that you can drink water from under the ground in a major city just blows my mind ... try that in Midtown Manhattan.
@@TravelClast Well, there is always Denver's Big Bunny Motel out on west Colfax. And it's vintage! ... used to be called the "Bugs Bunny" until they got into a lawsuit over the name.
Well, they're insanely cool. It's a naturally occurring rock formation that's like giant red fingers that reach for the sky. They were made 290 million years ago, and discovered by Stephen Long in 1820, people loved camping there including the original Ute tribe which called the place "Garden of Angels" which is pretty close to what you feel when you see it. In 1941 they built the theater there, and since, the world's greatest musicians have played there like the Beatles, Hendrix, U2, the Dead, and Weird Al Yankovic of course.
Denver died about 10 to 15 years ago. It used to be full of mom and pop restaurants and bars now it's exactly like California full of hipster joints and corny stuff. Wish you could have seen the old Denver
Thats a shame you feel that way ... I definitely dont think Denver is dead by any means. I mean just the proliferation of craft breweries over the last decade is insane. There is still a lot of originality and non-corporate authentic goodness to find.
@@TravelClast See that's just it. Most people from Denver don't hang out at breweries, Or really hang out in "Cherry Creek " lol. There is nothing original/authentic about that area.
@@Rt27555 I believe you. But most people from Denver I don't think watch travel films intended for first time visitors. Just because you've been to these places and find them touristed doesn't mean they aren't unique to Denver my friend. Trust me they are. Even the prim and polished Cherry Creek. I'm sure if you went to NYC for the first time you'd want to go to Williamsburg, grab a drink on Bedford, maybe eat a cupcake at Magnolia. I would never go anywhere near those places as someone that lives in NYC, but I would never say they aren't worth seeing for the first time. But if you want me to send tourist to places where locals go like Tennyson or Five Points I can ruin that for you too. ;)
@@TravelClast For some odd reason this video popped up in suggested videos. I was just curious what a cool youtube traveler like yourself has to say about the city where I grew up. You like what you like and that's totally ok. Drink your craft beer, stay at cool hip places, it's just not what people here like. We are different in the sense that you seek out tourist locations, where I would talk to someone local on things to do. Especially like the ones you stated in New York lol. Good luck on the videos man! Cheers! Lol
@@Rt27555 That is interesting ... wonder why TH-cam is feeding travel vids to locals. That algorithms have started to revolt! Well I appreciate you watching, and definitely appreciate the comments, and agree with you the places I hit up were meant for someone like myself, a tourist, mainly because it was set up by the tourist board, so these are the type of places I imagine they want to highlight to travelers. Cherry Creek is a bit of a shopping mall with rooms, but other places like RiNo and Avanti I thought were pretty fresh, and the people there were super cool and local. In general everyone we met out and about were locals, there was almost zero tourism going on, and everyone was super cool and offered lots of great suggestions to their favorite places (like lots of peeps in these comments...) I've already started a nice long list of Denver 2.0 when the world starts turning again and man, if you got any reccos, I'd always love to hear them!
I'm so glad you highlighted this as I actually wanted to apply to work there as a massage therapist for a short contract. I'm planning on going in two weeks time with my Mom as she's never seen the mountains. I'm so excited!
Just got back from Denver. It sucked. Traffic was terrible and every road is either under construction or needs to be under construction with all the pot holes. There are homeless people everywhere, and not just in bad areas, EVERYWHERE. Average 300 days a year sunshine... I call BS, there's no way. The entire week we were there it was cloudy, raining and dreary. There is trash all over the place, even up in the mountains, and I always thought Colorado was big on keeping there state clean, guess I was wrong. I will never go back to Denver, maybe Colorado Springs, but never Denver.
Steve I think you single handedly had the worst trip I've ever heard of and probably have effectively stopped everyone from visiting;) Sorry you had such a bad experience although I find it hard to believe that there is trash all over the place, even up in the mountains. There's a hellovalot of mountains in Colorado. The homeless issue is something I think the whole country is going through and I do hope the economy picks up which will hopefully help the issue. Tourism returning back to cities like Denver makes up a big part of that, so even though I'm sorry you had bad weather and traffic, glad you visited. Hope your next trip is a bit better my friend.
Interesting ... I really didnt see any huge homeless problem around the city when I went ... I mean, I live in Los Angeles half the time, and there, well, it's a huge issue ... camps of people living under pretty much any overpass or park ... but I still dont hate LA because of it, just wish there was something the city could do to give those folks a better more stable life. I hate LA because the pizza sucks. You know. Real reasons.
@@charleshamilton9274 Yeah I really enjoyed it. I get that it's a bit polished but it's a great part of town and thought the food and lounges were spot on.
It must be tough for you. I apologize. A suggestion ... never watch a Gaspar Noe film ... or Guy Ritchie ... or a cartoon. Probably should stay away from TV in general. Thanks for watching (half way) and appreciate the feedback!
Did you ride around in a hover car? The roads are some of the worst in the country and the traffic, COVID or not; is awful as well. Denver and the surrounding areas are over populated and a mish mash of oddly zoned neighborhoods.
No, an eTuk! (I mean if you watched the video you would know that;) and again, in the summer when I was there I didn't personally find any traffic, and those eTuks aren't really the best with suspension but still the roads were fine. What I find really curious is that I've done episodes on dozens of cities ... and Denver, by far, has more locals saying how horrible it is. It's really peculiar. I guess it's perspective, I mean, as a New Yorker I don't think you could understand what I constitute as traffic ... the only places that ever challenged my notion of traffic were Beijing and Jakarta. That goes for potholes too. Anyway, glad you watched the vid and thanks for the input!
When I went personally I didn't see any. Now however, based on the amount of comments about the homeless, I'm assuming, like in many cities in the United States, there is a visible increase in homelessness like never before. I don't think this is a negative aspect to Denver, or any city, that finds themselves in a homeless crisis. I emphasize with those that have been squeezed out of society because of a failing economy, a failing nation to take care of them. I commend those that help the thousands in need, especially during these colder months where being homeless can be life threatening. This year has been nothing less than terrifying for most, and for some, that terror sees no bounds. Stephen thanks for watching and commenting, and reminding us to never forget those in true need.
@@TravelClast The Denver Area has a lot more than a city like Kansas City. The climate is a bit more hospitable.... It is sad to see the number of folks who need help and there are some parts of the city that are over run with them.
@@tommy516 I totally agree ... I mean you should see Los Angeles these days ... it's heartbreaking. It's a difficult issue to deal with, I think this country has struggled with homelessness since Manifest Destiny and personally I see it at an all time high because the economy is pretty stalled. Hopefully as the world starts turning again there will be some relief.
Marina, wow ... looks like you hate all the places I went ... why on earth do you live in Denver? And what exactly is "authentic" local breakfast? Please say a Denver omelette. (Omelettes are from France FYI).
Denver diner closed way early into the pandemic, and I agree with "Rob and Brad" about it sounding that you just didn't like the places. Everywhere he went has a strong history in Denver so I feel that he did it right from the aspect of learning g what Denver has to offer. Every local to any city will have their favorites and think that the mainstream places (like Snooze) aren't good. But to each their own
@@YoGeeLow You bring up a good point that I never really convey; it's hard, if not wholly impossible for a local, a real local, to see a city like a first time visitor. I'm from NYC, and when people visit, it always baffles me how they want to go to the tourist stuff that I find atrocious, and when I take them to "the real deal" they are usually not impressed. I think the reason is for you to find, and appreciate those "real deal" places you have to live past the tourist spots that you've already played out to death. There is no way to skip the line. It's like if you start a kid out watching films with Magnolia and skip Toy Story because "it's not a real film".
@@rockymountaintrout2689 yeah I wanna say that was the highlight of the trip ... we drove from Denver to Aspen, through Leadville over to Telluride... amazing country. Steamboat looks incredible.

Hit all the tourist spots and got all the neighborhoods wrong next time see Denver it has better sites then you hit. Ask a true local, whose lived here all their life.
What a witch! ;) You're funny. What makes a neighborhood "wrong" may I ask? Ill say it again, because people that don't work as a travel journalist wouldn't realize this, but a local's knowledge of a city, and where a local spends their time, is not where a first time tourist necessarily wants to go. For instance, I am a New Yorker, and trust me, when people come to my city, there are lots of places I could show them, but the all still want to go to the tourist places that define the city, and should see them because, well, they're amazing even if they are boring to me. That's the difference between us I suppose. But yes, if you'd like to share some of your favorite places to go and contribute to the love I feel fro Denver, we're all ears! Also I just subscribed to you so now you have two subs! Congrats!
this is a well done video, but please stop traveling during COVID. this may have felt “monumental” to you, but what is actually monumental are the cases rises and people dying everyday. It will not stop until this recklessness does, and I would seriously reevaluate the posting of this video.
No one is traveling these days Elizabeth, this was in the summer and done with extreme caution with all travel boards included because I am a professional and would never put the people or places I go in jeopardy. I appreciate your concern but please don't tell me what's monumental. My entire family is Italian and I've had more deaths this year then I care to remember.
Great point, and please share! Denver has a large African American community too, as well as Filipino and Cambodian, as well as Italian and Canadian, all unique adding to the fabric of the city. The thing about travel is that you can't cover every experience, and what's more, it's ok not to include every human existence in every film. I hope if you enjoy Native American artwork and shops that you feel motivated to add to the story of Denver with your own film! Go Get'm Marco! Make the world shine!
Denver is overrated. Way too expensive, too many people poor infrastructure traffic is horrible too many homeless. I lived there my entire adult life and finally left last year. Moved to the East Coast, rent is the same and my job pay 20k more.

Nice vid. Glad you enjoyed your trip. I've lived here for over 30 years. It's great. It's getting kind of spendy, but I'm not complaining. I just hope it comes back after Covid restrictions finally go away.
Wow 30 years is a good amount of time in any place ... has it changed a lot over the years or does it still have it's original charm?
@@TravelClast little of both actually 😎. Lots more funky little neighborhoods, and downtown used to be just the 16th St Mall. All in all an overall positive.
@@asajayunknown6290 That's great to hear ... always such a weird balance between wanting to share all these amazing destination and not destroying them with tourism ... Denver definitely seemed grounded and authentic, and the people were nicer than Canadians;)
Oh dude I just did work on Avanti! We did a light remodel making it look a little more rustic and gave it some fresh paint, looks really good, you’ll have to come check it out again
Really! It was already so cool, but glad they're putting more into it ... I love this type of food circus, where the vendors are not only top of their game, but the location a jewel on its own.
Please come back. Next Denver downtown coffee and Korean BBQ are on me...
Thats a DEAL!

hey thanks ... not bad from a kid from Mineola Long Island;)
Great vid!
Aw thanks!
Denver has changed a lot in the last 20 years. Good and bad. This is pretty accurate for modern day Denver. You'll have to hit up SodoSopa next time and stay at The Villas at Kenny's House.
I was going to but my friend died so we had to cancel the trip. RIP Kenny.
Nice video! Appreciate the suggestions!
awesomesauce! Glad you enjoyed!
Great video!
Hey thanks so much!
I’ve hit every one of those spots. Good choices.
Thanks Bryce! Good to know we were in good hands!
The sunsets are kinda a thing. Hope you had good Mexican food with green chili. I miss Denver. Coming home soon.
the green chili is def kinda a thing;)
Hey, How many days do you think I would need to explore Denver and the surrounding areas ? I was thinking maybe 4 nights 5 days.

Loved your video :) How can I get to Red Rocks without a car? I am traveling to Denver on Dec 1st.
well Gaby, might be hard getting around Denver without a car these days because of COVID. It's a 30 minute ride from Union Station so you could Uber, or a 2 hour bike ride if you're up for that. There usually are buses, but because of COVID they are not running.
... the next time you’re here you need to check out the Buckhorn Exchange, they serve every type of wild game you can imagine and hold Colorado liquor license #1, yes they’ve been around that long 😏

@@TravelClast Indeed
Northside all day
@Doug Sawyer Hey Doug thanks for all the reccos!!!
@@TravelClast Burnt-Sienna Suites or the Mile-High Mocha Hotel? Uh... I don't think so, though I do appreciate your wit!
@@trinidadmick4389 HAhahah! Sounds like a bad rebranding of a Motel-6!
@@TravelClast Well, there is always Denver's Big Bunny Motel out on west Colfax. And it's vintage! ... used to be called the "Bugs Bunny" until they got into a lawsuit over the name.
Denver native here. Also Brown Palace well know for famous tea time
What makes Red Rocks infamous?
Well, they're insanely cool. It's a naturally occurring rock formation that's like giant red fingers that reach for the sky. They were made 290 million years ago, and discovered by Stephen Long in 1820, people loved camping there including the original Ute tribe which called the place "Garden of Angels" which is pretty close to what you feel when you see it. In 1941 they built the theater there, and since, the world's greatest musicians have played there like the Beatles, Hendrix, U2, the Dead, and Weird Al Yankovic of course.
@Doug Sawyer Mumford and Sons also appeared there, so a great music venue.

Great place to VISIT; actually a pretty lame place to live unless you love the outdoors

Absolutely hated living there. Huge growing homeless problem with tents everywhere and ppl sleeping/passed out on the sidewalk. So glad I moved
Sam heather Ben Sylvia Serena and California family go here
who?
You forgot all the Homeless camps
Idk Snooze is bottom of the barrel for authentic local breakfast.

@@Marinaaduran Well, I thank you for the input Marina ... next time through Ill have to give them a try!

Where are all the Native American artwork and shops?? Everything in this video sound like white people created Denver....
