Bugzy , I have an 1982 XS, I just love the bike, but 42 years of shaking on these machine wires, some issues can get quite interesting sometimes, so glad you have some great help to fix your bike problems. Good luck on your next inspection, keep on Ride-in that XS. (Oregon Rider)
Poor Justin just can’t help himself Lol 😂 Maybe he can have fun with it. When he thinks he’s going to swear he can act like he’s Forrest Gump. Gosh darn it, Fiddle Sticks, Justin is funny though 😎Dave H
I had one of these for 9 years up until last year. Mine was a 1982 model. I was too big for it really and I tried all sorts of things to fix its handling and eventually sold it a small guy and it suited his size well. I had problems with the alternator not charging enough to charge my battery, but once that was sorted out I just had to make sure it was always on the battery charger. It went through about four batteries in the time I had it.
@BugzyXS True always liked the idea of them, and loved the looks to, especially the 1978 special (yep l am probably as old as your dad), because when they came out, there was nothing like them on the market except for the XL 1000 HD sportster. My wife actually owned and road a 1976 model, XS650 back in the late 1970's.
16:50 this is exactly what happens when a regulator goes bad, they sometimes are good enough to charge enough but get so flakey they only work past a certain RPM. i'm not sure that's what's happened but they are a weak point on older bikes
Oh and they paradoxically become a drain (a short even) on batteries as well, you may have a perfectly charged battery but a bad reg could potentially drain the battery as well
Old motorcycles, can really keep you on your toes. One of my bikes is a 1979 Kawazaki KZ400b. It's the oldest, smallest displacement bike I own. Heading home after a ride, about 4 miles from my house, I'm going up a hill, and the bike stalls out. I get it started again, but it's not running right, and can't make it up the hill. Some friends came to my rescue. We found the left spark plug threads were stripped, and the plug wouldn't stay in. I ended up having a mechanic heli-coil it. It's been okay, ever since.
Massachusetts inspection stickers, I remember well. There were always lighting issues with my BSA: ground wires, filaments and rectifier diodes victim to engine vibration; shorted dynamo, etc. I feel your anxiety!
When I first saw this I thought it was from last year. It’s always an adventure when Bugzy gets an inspection 😂 Makes for good 👍 content. That is a good looking bike though. A good video would be you trying to kick 🦵 start your bike.😎Dave H
Thank you for this video it was a real blast from the past. I still remember that wonderful noise of a starter motor not starting and having to kick the bike over to get it going. At least it didn't stick on and flatten the battery which was another thing they did. The best things you can do with all the lights is throw them out and get LED replacements so you can see at night. I've got a Honda 82 VF 750 , VF45, Magna and I love it and changing the lights was one of the first things I did. They use a lot less power and you can usually get inserts so the bike still looks the same. I always wanted an XS 650 but either never had the chance or the money to get one.
Once again had me crying.😅😅 ooo shit the sodering iron was classic. The chain guard. Kinda best entertaining motorcycle vids I have seen in long time. The squirrel's nest wiring harnessed. Thanks great job editing. Ooo man can ya just get the welder. Everything about this video was great. Looking foward to round 2. 😂 edit this so we look good. You two need to make vids on fixing up bikes along with the real world issues. 👍
Motorcycle inspection is questionable in my state and they won't pull you over for it. If they pull you over anyway, they could give you a ticket though.
Up until they computerized everything I used to just go over to my buddy Jacks Sunoco station and pick up a couple for me and a few for my other riding friends. Street and Dirt Bikes. Simpler times. Less government regulations.
I would have just kick started it as though that's what you always do.

oh nice! must've been hard to part with it! Even though they give us trouble we still love them haha

Wow that’s crazy! Good friends to the rescue! Great to hear it’s been riding fine ever since. Sounds like a really cool bike.

it really is such a nerve-racking experience! I pray to the bike gods every time, clearly didn't work this day haha
Awesome video! Nice job diagnosing, Justin!
thank you! You're helping to refirm this caveperson into a true gentleman, albeit slowwwwwly

That noise haunts me haha! I've heard great things about LED. Let me know if you ever do get an XS650 some day:)

@@BugzyMotogreat idea for a gift. Love the content you and Justin are super funny.thanks for sharing hopefully see ya pass inspection.
Bettencourts for the win! Those guys are great! I enjoyed the video. Bring back the swears!
The swears will always exist in my head, just know that every second I am on camera there's a thunderstorm of profanity happening within my brain
They really are so great at Bettencourt's! Glad you enjoyed the viddy, stay tuned for part 2!
My old Suzuki has stranded me a few times. I never forget my phone!
What model? I've always had a softspot for a Suz myself but only ever owned Yamaha, Honda, and Harley
A 1979 GS 550 , I rescued from under a tree.
oh man! yeah good point, the phone is just as important as the keys lol
😉🤙
A proper new england accent requires swearing.
While I 500% agree, I am stahtin' to realize the world is biggah than New England and I'm workin' on expandin' my vocabulary 🤣
@@justinmantell😂😂
the swearing is hilarious and genuine
lol I'm glad you think so

I have family in TN and they don't even need a sticker!
Nice to see a bike with a kickstarter again. (Last street bike I owned with one was my 1980 XS850)
I sure do have a new found love for bikes with kickstarters!
@@BugzyMoto I certainly can see why after the issues in this video. 🙂
luke combs doing motrocycle inspections now?
haha i feel like luke combs got nothing on zach 😆
my 81 xs650 also like to give me troubles.
its a love/hate thing, right?
Is that bike really supposed to idle like that? That would drive me crazy, it's so rough.
it was def running weird that day, when she's running right she sounds goood
Isn't that bettencourts?
yes it is!

Could Justin watch his language. It is hard to watch these video's with the family.
🙉 He's working on it I promise! I love that you're watching my channel with your family.
