  • Jack and Charlie discuss Lucas Paqueta's recent form at West Ham, including his lacklustre performance against Fulham in the recent Premier League match and whether the style of football he was asked to play previously under David Moyes has had a negative impact and reduced his ability to play the role required by new manager Julen Lopetegui.

    Short answer : No.
-The problem are others as they aren't capable to play on his level. You for a reason see that he can only build up with Emerson only. As others are very static and choke under pressuer, specially the midfield.
As team improves, Paqueta will get on his best. We need Soler fast alongside him.

Actually watching the video now. The system we should be looking to replicate is Arsenal's the season before they signed Rice. So balanced. It would suit our profile of players so much. The key would be to manage Paqueta. Like you said, being more conservative in and around our own third. That Arsenal system, the side was so balanced, chance would created themselves. One of the most efficient systems I have ever seen without having tonnes of expensive players, just the correct player profiles. If I was West Ham coach, I would look at that system and replicate it with our players.

Can't help but feel his reputation is riding the coattails of his own assist in that final. I find him incredibly frustrating. He's clearly got potential to be unreal, but I shouldn't be talking about the potential of a 27 year old...

Like Jack says, the requirements of Paqueta in this side since arriving have been extremely vast. Paqueta is one hell of a player, trust me. Go and watch his contributions in the Man City game to Bowen's goal and Kudus's chance when he hit the post. The latter, especially, shows what level of player you are dealing with. He takes a touch about a yard away from our own goal, with about10 bodies around him, and doesn't break a sweat and plays a 40 yard pin point pass to start a counter attack. It's insane. Paqueta is a bespoke player. If coached correctly, he is world class. I have no doubt about that whatsoever. If Pep would have got hold of Paqueta, the world would not of stopped talking about him every game week. Moyes had him playing as a 10, supporting the CFs press, which is not getting anywhere near what he is capable of. Lop has been so inconsistent, it becomes difficult to tell what he wants from him moving forward. Our use of Paqueta is even more of a footballing travesty than wasting Kudus on the left. Both are sacrilegious. Lingard was the perfect 10 for Moyes ball. Someone who is lean and quick who will run all game. Moyes had Paqueta doing that role for large spells and it doesn't get anywhere near the optimum from him. Like I said, go and watch Paqueta's contributions to Bowen's goal and Kudus's chance when he hit the post in the Man City game and tell me he ain't a special player.

@@damiandamico4715 I remember the chance you're talking about. A friend took me to the game, got to see it live. More of those moments where you think oh is he starting to do what we thought he would? I am somewhat inclined to agree with you about Pep getting ahold of him. I do wonder if he could knock the frustrating loose balls out of him

@@EuanGallant If you can "knock the frustrating loose balls out of him" and replace that with conservative passes in our own third, you have one of the best 8's in world football.

@@EuanGallant For what I want from this team, that would be the key thing I would be paying attention to. If I was picking the side, he'd be playing as a left side 8, but not before me sitting down and telling him to leave the samba stuff at home unless your close to (or inside) the oppositions half. Feel like there is a top 6 side in this group (comfortably). Ive seen no signs of us reaching our potential though.
