    I have been using these pedals since last summer. As with clipless pedals, there is a learning curve. At first, I was releasing my shoes from the Hustle pedals when I didn't want to. When I leaned my foot in any direction, the shoe would break loose from the pedal. This is good when you want to get your foot off the pedal, such as during a fall, but not good when you don't. Then I learned that I had to lift my foot at a 90-degree angle to the pedal in order to get the advertised 100 lbs of attraction to work and be able to lift the bike up with my legs. It is all in the ankles. Just like you have to learn the proper ankle angle to make a scooping motion with your flat pedals, or the proper way to twist your ankle to release your shoe from a clipless pedal, you must learn the proper angle to keep your ankle in, in order to efficiently use the Hustle pedals. One more point is that one must use the Hustle pedals exclusively until using them is second nature. Switching between the Hustle pedal and a clipless pedal will impede one's ability to adapt to the Hustle pedal.

      @@thetruelefty9302 They are brilliant ! Before I was using Cranksbrothers Mallet E, but clipping in was driving me insane ( I'm above knee) but with the Hustle atttahing and detaching is just easy. I ride enduro and never has the foot come off the pedal going to downhill. I have to remain seated for peddling so I'm limited to just how techy or steep I can climb, but I climb better using the Hustle over the Crankbrothers - the bigger platform of the Hustle pedal just feels good under foot and that combined with magnets certainly gives me confidence to try ride harder stuf.

    I have been riding these pedals for over a year. I came from clipless and the transition took me about 2 weeks to get used to but man am I happy I stuck it out. These are by far the best pedals I've used. I can unclip without thinking about it in sticky situations. I can clip in/out on any techy climb or decent and just go without a thought during a race. And it helps you to learn better foot mechanics as well.
    I acknowledge every rider will have different experiences but they should be ridden exclusively to get a feel for them just like when you learn to ride clipless for the first time most of us forget that that also took lots of getting used to for most people

    I just started riding last year after not riding since I was a kid (36 now) so I’m new to this. I started riding because I needed the exercise but also wanted to have fun doing it so I bought a Jeffsy and these pedals to help my confidence with jumps and the chatter from rock gardens. For some reason my feet don’t like to stay on flats even with good shoes and pedals. These performed exactly as I hoped in that I feel locked in for my application and haven’t lost my pedals mid air. I’m sure most of my battle is just poor technique but these help me really feel comfortable and confident to try newer things. I’m a total sis without them now if I hop on a buddy’s bike with normal flats 😂 Thanks for sharing an honest review, cheers!

      Thanks for your comment. Been riding a couple of years and I still have an issue with my left foot coming off the pedal during drops and jumps (riding flats). I just ordered a set of these pedals to give them a try. I tried clipless and have the CB pedals and shoes. But even after much trying, I can't get used unclipping during an 'event'. Hoping these will raise my confidence as I begin to increase the drops.

    After an injury, requiring a full hip replacement, these pedals really helped getting back on the trail. Was a huge fan of clipless but needed something to bridge the gap between those and flats.

  • @davidgarde8429
    @davidgarde8429 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I agree with with the review. I've been riding clipless for over 25 years and figured why not give these a try. After 5 rides I went back to my clipless pedals. I understand there might be a learning cure, but unless your foot is in the exact right spot you will not get the full 100lb attraction of the magnet. I found my foot slipping off during rocky descents and having difficulty reattaching in the middle of the run.

  • @kenh.3857
    @kenh.3857 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have been riding these pedals since the first ones hit the market. I find clipless pedals too restrictive and needed a specific movement to get out of. I have crashed more times with clipless. Flat pedals did not offer me enough connection to the bike. The Hustle Bike Labs are the sweet spot for me. I can clip out with an easy "roll" of my foot to the right or left and can get my foot down easy. As well, when you put your foot on the pedal, it sticks and I can adjust later when the terrain is easier, but I still have a firm grip on the pedal. I will be buying a second pair for another bike of mine as soon as they are available. I use clipless pedals on my road bike "Time" and have been riding clipless since Look first came out with them in '89' or '90'. Dating my self I know, but I find the magnets and pins great for my riding MTB in So Cal (rocky and technical).

  • @nickryan3917
    @nickryan3917 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It cant be emphasized enough that the right shoes/pin setup make or break these pedals. The magnet is plenty strong if the plate is making good contact, but if your pin/shoe combo is off, your foot is going to slide all over the place. Pin placement is key to preventing translational movement that is going to allow the plate to drift off thr magnet and lose force. I fought with making my giro chambers work for a good number of months, and only finally got it to work like I wanted when i experimented with longer cap screws for the toe area from Ace Hardware. THEY TAKE A LOT OF FIDDLING to get right. If you come from clips and find theyre no good, i get it, they are at the end of the day, assisted flats. Coming from flats, IF THEYRE SETUP RIGHT, youll never be able to go back to flats riding rough stuff. Its a big if though. They are admittedly hard to get setup right for your shoes.

    Its only downfall is weight.

    I personally bounced out of pedal unless i was really poorly connected/misaligned.
    I do alot of jumps/drip offs
    Mainly tried it due to bouncy fat tire bike lol
    I'll be getting to test some J-pedals this weekend. Its upside is the weight , not sure how float and engament/disengagement compares

    Everything you found was bang on from my perspective of being a clipless rider. These pedals would be great for flat riders and people with disabilities! One additional point I didn’t hear made was the inconsistency of foot position to magnetic retaining force. Meaning until you can place your foot in the exact same position every time (I think the Cherubini’s found the same thing) the retention force won’t be the same. But again, having tried these pedals out I can tell you the quality and finish is top notch and definitely will satisfy the want and need for different niches of riders out there. And their customer service is great too!

    • @chrisaiello5230
      @chrisaiello5230 ปีที่แล้ว

      so your comment is interesting to me, because it hits on what I've been looking for in reviews. My interest in magnetic flat pedals is around using them to help locate my foot on the pedal. I ride flats on my MTB (I do ride clipless on road bike) and the issue I sometimes have is that I like my foot in a pretty specific spot on the pedals to get the right grip and feel. And sometimes I get a bit distracted from the trail, or more often lose a bunch of speed and momentum, trying to get my foot in the right spot. My hope for magnetic pedals has always been that it would help almost instantly locate my foot on the pedal right where I want it (which would require some trial and error in setup). I'm not all that interested in the retention force (if that's what I wanted then I'd ride clipless). But it sounds like the size of the magnets and the plate for the shoe still give a sizeable surface area that would not provide the precision location I'd be hoping for. Am I correct about that?

    • @motocraneguy17
      @motocraneguy17 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@chrisaiello5230 I don’t think you’re asking this, but in case you wonder about it, the magnets don’t suck your foot into the sweet spot. Wherever you place your foot, it’s stuck there till you lift it off and reposition it. And till you hit that sweet spot intuitively, it won’t have near the retention force.

  • @suciosmtb
    @suciosmtb ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I agree! I wasn’t a big fan of magnet pedals didn’t really do the job for me in keeping me on the pedals, they would disengage on fast chunky stuff (specifically suicide trail) the only positive I took from them when I had them is they gave me a really good transition to clipless, when I switched to clipless it was really seamless and had no issues like most other I know when they switched to clipless from flats

    Hustle Labs recommend certain shoes and pin configurations for the best performance. RC Revelations (Great Shoe!) and Giro Chamber II shoes are recommended along with running some of the longer pins in the front of the pedal. I have both of these shoes and am running the recommended pin configuration and find them to be outstanding. Especially in the steep jank where its a little scary to run clips, and flats feel less connected. Subjective i know, but the right shoes and set up make a world of difference. For reference i was a clipless rider for years, but at 50 i'm just more cautious and have a lower tolerance for risk (want to keep riding, not be injured)... Anyways, i love these pedals!

    I was looking to get these but more reviews suggest these aren't the solution.
    I rode flats for 11 -12 years, last year switched to clipins I had laying around from old cyclocross bike. I got used to riding clipped in now, and generally enjoy it, jumps ☑️ fast descent ☑️ longer faster xc rides ☑️ however my problem being clipped in turned out to be chunky technical climbs - yes, climbs !
    Here is why- I can't move my feet much as I am putting down a power stroke to get over a ledge, so I either unclip accidently or losses balance, other thing clipping in takes time and space you don't have on some technical trails.
    That being my reason to look for something new - these don't look like it.

    They didn't work for you because you weren't using them properly... If your feet were releasing when you were lifting up on the bike, you didn't have a good enough connection with the magnet. They don't work with any shoe.. if your cleat sits too deep, even with the shim, it still dosen't get a solid connection..And you do not release from these like you would a clipless pedal.. you don't twist then lift.. you simply just have to roll your ankle slightly and it releases easily.. These pedals are an absolute game changer and used properly, are extremely comparable to clipless.. I can't recommend them enough!
