This was an excellent video on multiple counts: 1.) it clearly demonstrated the differences between firmware versions 2.) it lulled my baby to sleep during her evening bottle.
The trails of the reverb algos are marked improvements. And to see that it is free is incredible. Great job to Walrus Audio for making a good pedal great!
@ Hey. Just did the update. Sounds great, but now with the new firmware when you disengage the “freeze” it stops super abruptly now. Have you noticed that?
@ you may have to change your Input settings to DSP to enable spill over. But if that doesn’t work, you can still play the same chord or sound and the reverb will carry that
@@nobesmusic I’ll double check that I still have it in dsp bypass mode. I feel like that’s not the issue because I have spillover from one preset to the next just not when I disable the freeze.
Good video. But a question is, are the decay times so much longer in the update for the same knob settings? Also, one quick tip: MK I is pronounced Mark 1, and MK II is pronounced Mark 2.
@nobesmusic great video! Thanks for making this! I just bought a mk1, can you change the firmware setting back to the original if you wanted to? 😊Thanks man!
i'm really conflicted here because the Air sound in the old one is like THE sound I want on a reverb and I miss the crackle but every other feature in the 2.0 is perfect for me. If they brought a bit more of the crackle, and made the shimmer just a tad less responsive and more below the surface like the 1 version I would be stupidly happy But the new BFR, and Refeact are so much fun. I put it on my board two weeks ago, and it just has the sounds in my head, and its super easy to get big church sounds out of it.
@@davidkeller9345 man, that really is a hard predicament haha. Which sounds do you use the most? Functionality can always help with these kinds of choices
Wow all the algorithms are quite improved! And in turn they brightened them up quite a bit rather than hide them in the dark tones they had previously lol. I dunno if I like what the new Refract is doing, it sounds more like a delay effect than a glitchy reverb at times. BFR's stereo field sounds quite narrow for a big reverb...? Dunno if there's a control for that or not, interesting.
@@KYDY yes totally agree with you! Huge improvement. With Refract you can turn down the highs and make the attacks of the refractions lighter to sound more glitchy. And there is a room feature on the BFR that made it sound bigger or smaller, I didn’t go all the way so I assume that also broadens the stereo field, but I’d have to check
Yeah there’s a stereo widening effect too. With the right knob in ‘x’ mode, hold down bypass until it blinks then use the ‘tune’ knob to expand the stereo effect. It’s wild!
@@thekramer1097 they are the same as the MK2! I think just some functionality is different. Like on the MKII you can control the octave in the shimmer more specifically
@@nobesmusic Hi again, I really hope you can answer this. How big of a deal is the diffusion control in the R1 mk2 (BFR and RFRCT)? Is it THAT necessary for some "strymon cloud" reverb? This is the only thing keeping me from buying an mk2 :(
I’d say spring and plate have biggest improvements, actually i’m not sure i like the new versions of refract and air. Luckily, i can easily re-upload mk1 if i try it and don’t love the new one. Thanks for making this video! Very helpful.
@@itZKrayyyZ for sure! I totally agree. They all actually really sound different to me. I love the Spring and Plate a lot more now. The BFR sounds bigger and the differences in the Refract and Air were huge improvements!
