@@GoobertownHobbies thought this was a great tutorial in general, but I was wondering if there's any reason you used a paper plate as a pallet? I always use an old plastic lid (from a tub of yogurt, takeout, etc) if I don't have my whet pallet, as I find that using a partially absorbent paper plate dries out my paints quicker. Am I just imagining that?

@@charleslatora5750 I believe in you, a good way to steady your hands to paint those smaller details is by putting the brush-hand on the other hand so it supports your hand and brush and makes you a lil less jittery. As I started with only 10 paints and now washes I use to mix a lot to get what I wanted. Now I just go for what’s available.

I've been painting on-and-off for more than 25 years (more off than on…) and whenever I tried to teach a youngster the hobby I always faced the same problem: where to start, what kind of materials to use. And that's because during the many years I've been on the hobby, I have hoarded quite a lot of different tools and paints, and you cannot say to a newcomer "hey, spend more money than you actually have in order to have the bare minimum tools to start, and if for some reason you later don't like the hobby, tough luck!". This approach, with cheap materials, easy figures, etc. is the way to go. Thanks a lot for this video and the many others in your channel.

As a beginner to miniature painting (but not to painting and crafts in general) so far all of your videos have been extremely helpful and I learned a lot of traps to avoid/ mistakes to make before even starting my first one. Even the more advanced videos I didn’t feel overwhelmed- but it makes sense you can use every tip and try everything on your first model - you gotta just play with the paint and get a feel for what’s it’s like to put it on and each mini after that gets better.

Oh thank god. As a 50 year old, trying miniature painting for the first time in decades and seeing a simple video to explain simple things is brilliant. Apart from the advice on caffeine - that's filthy talk.

I decided I wanted to start painting minis because I want to paint my monsters from Monster Hunter World: The Board Game. This isn't the first video I watched, but it is absolutely the one that has helped me determine that I won't be overwhelmed by the fear of "screwing up" my minis and not painting my monsters. "Just start painting." Thanks Brent

Hey, Brent, I have a Pupil-tip: use a cocktail stick, dip the point only a bit in the paint and hit the target with the point. Real easy method, works always for me.

I wanted to start painting minis as a leisure activity, bought some minis and all the basic stuff, but after watching some introduction videos for beginners I was actually put off and thought I wasn't ready, and I need to do more research before grabbing the brush. Your video is the only one I have seen that has actually encouraged me to just go ahead and paint, regardless of the emd result. Thank you, Brent!

I sincerely love that the main tip in this video is "hey bud, just put some paint on a model!" It's the best advice for painters of any experience level. I've been doing this for years and I still get locked up in indecision. The only way out is through!

This is what I love about Goobertown Hobbies--your videos always tear down barriers of entry to new hobby members. A lot of beginner videos will spend their time going over all the things you "need" to do--stuff like spray primer, hobby paints, cleaning models, etc.--but in reality, you can get by just by slapping some craft paint on a model and having fun with it. These sorts of tutorials are exactly what new hobbyists need, since it explains the fundamentals of mini painting and why people rely on stuff like primer, nice paints, and all that, but doesn't act like that's a requirement to start painting. Thank you very much for putting the effort into opening this hobby for as many people as possible. :)

Dar Brent, Thank you very much for your videos. I've recently taken to painting miniatures after years of fighting the urge to plunge into the rabbit. I've been watching lots of your content and have learned a great deal from you already. I've painted three so far and they all look phenomenal. Thank you for everything and I appreciate your work and content. I hope to keep watching & learning from you for many more rotations
