There are a number of issues with evil being a consequence of the gift of free will
    1. Is free will necessary? Does he need us to have free will? Will something objectively detrimental happen to him if doesn't include free will?
If he only wants us to have free will and knows that to give us free will he must create a world in which evil and suffering is possible then hes malevolent. Creating unnecessary suffering is malevolent
2 if hes omnipotent then he could give us free will but still make evil impossible. If free will is the ability to make decisions and he decides how logic works and what can be decided then he can choose to make it so only good or neutral actions can be taken, thus giving us free will without evil being necessary. Alvin Plantinga suggests a world with moral good but no moral evil is conceivable and does not contradict the nature of free will
For what kind of loving being looks at a world in which the ability to do evil is necessary for anything and says its good?
3 if only good options existed then we could still have free will, theres no reason to allow evil unless god wants things to suffer since anything he thinks we may gain from evil being possible is something that it is within his power to make attainable through non evil means
4 there will be no evil in heaven and heaven is perfect. Unless one loses their free will when they reach heaven then it is possible for good/righteousness to exist without the possibility of evil

I challenge all theists to provide objective reasons why my plan wouldnt be better than your gods plan from the bible
1st. I would make only good possible. I would make evil impossible but still give people the choice between good/neutral decisions
2nd. I would make only heaven and put everyone there
3rd. I'd kick back and relax in my creation which has 100% less evil and suffering than your gods creation
