Thanks for the video, I hope to check out several more of your videos as I plan to purchase a travel van and bike as many greenways across the USA as possible!
Yes, I stop at stop signs. Seen too many cars not pay attention to people on bikes. They either don't see us or are just ignorant. I don't want to have to learn my ABC's all over again. Great video. I have ridden the trail several times and enjoy it each time.
Wait a minute. I only about 30 miles from Rutherfordton NC. I'm always biking the Thermal Belt , Yet I've never heard anyone talk of this trail. I going there this Friday weather permitting. We getting a lot of rain this week. Whenever I stop off at B Shape Music in Spindale ,we always talk about the different trails. Yet no one has ever said a thing about this one. It look great. @8:52 As you are saying I mostly ride Rail Trails. I only stop if really necessary . Such on the Thermal Bike where 64, 74 and 211 all intersect at the same spot. The main thing is having to gear down, brake then start again. Which is not easy with and Ebike due to the weight. Although, the first I rode it I did. Until I notice no on else was stopping.
Somehow, I knew about the Purple Martin before Thermal Belt. Purple Martin is a nice little trail with some interesting features...but kind of short. Yeah...I ride a 7-speed bike, so if I do have to stop, I try to always take it down to 2, so it won't be so difficult to start back up again. But usually I take a look both ways and if the coast is clear, well... 🤷
Are there other greenway/trails close by to ride to this one so that you could ride a series of trails in a day? I would like to come over to the Charlotte area to ride the Little Sugar Creek and the Emerald Necklace. There's also another shorter trail called Lower McAlpine Creek, I think. And I am about to watch your video on the Thermal Belt.
I went to this trail after watching the Video the firs time. I must have started at the wrong end. Never saw the Kiwanis Park . I park at an Apartment Complects where Security Guards in Golf Carts kept looking at me unloading my Bike. When I got to the main road, ( where Herbie was sitting) I didn't know which way to go so I turned back. I may head back sometime this month ,weather pending. The part I rode was very nice. Beautiful wooded areas, friendly hikers . I stopped at one point just to hear the creek noise. #8:55 - Generally on the Thermal Belt Rail Trail I'll stop at Highway 64 in Rutherford .But that's because three major roads meet there. 64, 74, and 221. Lots of fast moving cars and Big Trucks.
Agree, stop signs on rural rail trails are an idea that must have been created by defense lawyers or county officials to CYA. I have stood on this platform way too many times. Why is there a stop sign at these rural crossing when a yield sign meets all the requirements of safety but does not criminalize the bikers who are assessing zero risk and roll through the crossing??? nobody in authority has ever provided a reasonable answer.
Lovely trail, Those covered bridges make it even better.
Lived here all my life and never knew about the Purple Thing!!
I made it there Thursday of last week. It's a nice trail for walking. I'll bike the Thermal

War Eagle. Beautiful video
@@Jellybellycat Iron Bowl is coming up! I’d say Alabama has the advantage this year but… In that game, you just never know. 🏈🐘🐅
What a beautiful looking area!
It is. Nice town, pretty trail.
Be ungovernable. Run the stop signs. Looking forward to hitting this trail and seeing if there's easy access from there to the Thermal Trail nearby.
@@randyherrmann3610 They’re not too far apart, but you’ll need to ride on some streets/roads to get from one to the other.
We are camping about an hour from there next week....probably won't make the drive for that short of a trail, but it surely does look nice!
BUT...the Thermal Belt Rail Trail is very close by...maybe you could double up and hit both trails!

@@karencrabtree5620 the thermal belt passes right past Rutherfordton so yes, it is close to the Purple Martin!

Yeah, when you get to that intersection where the VW was, just go across the street and keep going. You'll get to Kiwanis Park eventually. :)
