I had not been looking for a new acoustic, as I have a Martin B1, but only just became aware of this Martin aeries. I barely play the B1, mostly mostly because it is HUGE and not comfortable to play, but since becoming aware, I’m considering selling the B1 and picking up a Jr. it’s nice to see it played like a bass, not like a guitar.

HI Doug. thanks for the excellent sound comparison. I have been doing my own sound comparisons of standard, as well as micro basses vs a classical guitar set up with bass strings and the new TurboTail. If you are interested in seeing our test videos, we are continuing to search for the best acoustic bass unplugged.

Nice job! I did the same comparison yesterday, but with the Martin dreadnaught. IME, at this price point, it's often necessary to do some initial setup. My Guild was perfect out of the box, whereas the Dread's pickup was low output on the D string. I see that your Martin needs a little attention to the frets. Neither is a big deal, but fixing either would require a few minutes on the bench. The Dread had a little more acoustic output. Plugged in, it had a mid-focused and darker tone, while my Guild had more low end and sustained longer. Fit and finish are more definitely expensive-looking on the Martin. I'm a big guy, and preferred the Martin's chunky neck.

As someone who will probably never plug it in, which would you recommend?
