      Yes, along with MJ, the "favorite of eveyone", Drexler was always the NBA player I admire the most, in a time when the game was of multiple stars!!! To me, they were the greatest players I've ever seen. The fact that neither of both don't lead the NBA in any statistics is a good evidence that not necessarily the players with the highest numbers are the best in the game. There are no other player I've seen with such a level of dominance of the game, with their spectacularity and versatility of playing, constantly defying the Law of Gravity when going to the basket, making incredible passing shoots, great rebounds and unexpected steals... sometimes in their "trip" to the hole, time seemed to stop as they almost literally float to it! And all of this with a bit less (MJ) or barely over (CD) 2 m in height! They were also very skill, mentally very fast with an unusual perspective of each player and its position in the quadrilater (game field) at every moment. And of course both with comparatively high numbers in each key statistic (points, assistences, rebounds, steals and blocks). MJ's are very well known and if I remember well, The Glyde is the only player that combines more than 20,000 points, more than 7,000 assistances, more than 7,000 rebounds and more than 2,000 steals. And they won almost everything relevant in the world of basketball, including at least one ring, an olympic gold medal, members of the first 50 Best Players of NBA history, members of the basketball Hall of Fame, MVP''s, almost permanent members of the All Stars Game and living legends in their teams (clubs) in the National Team and of the global basketball history. Someting else? Yes! If you want to see a real clash of two megastars, just take a look of the games of The Bulls vs The Trail Blazers, for both, the regular season and the play-offs, as well as The Bulls vs The Rockets during the regular season (there were never NBA finals Bulls-Rockets with Drexler already playing in Houston).

      I always hated hearing that stilted, cliche buhlchit. This was the most talented, quickest, best 3-shooting team in the league at the time, maybe ever. AND they defended really well. They weren't "underdogs", and they weren't underachievers. If it weren't for a dozen injuries over the season, they probably would have been damb near undefeated like GS a few years ago and the Bulls in the late '90s.

      I repeat those words often...I never totally write off any team or core thats already won a title. Even if Im not picking them to repeat-Im always warry of teams that been there/done that. I did pull for this team,cuz I always like Clyde-& to win 4 series on the road vs 4-50+ win teams was amazing. And Im not even a Houston fan-Im Nuggets fan.
      But I always thought Hakeem was so underrated...best center Ive ever seen play with my own eyes-still to this day,& Im 46. Someday Jokic might be in the same class(though totally different type players)-but he needs a few rings,& has to accomplish a lot more to be in Hakeems class. I also saw Kareem play,& you could argue hes was better/had a better career resume-but I mostly saw old Kareem...Olajuwon was the best big Ive ever seen...he straight punked 2 pretty damn good centers in David Robinson,& Shaq-during this run.

      yeah cuz otis thorpe was awesome, and he was reason thorpe was sent packing. OT could throw the ball yet it stayed in his palm, jordan could shot fake up in the air and retain the ball, yet OT literally could throw fake it like a baseball, sometimes he released it, others times it was a fake and he just gripped that bitch.

  • @MrCancer1965

    As a fellow Houstonian and Rockets Fan it was good times back then. I hated that they traded Thorpe to get Drexler because Thorpe help the Rockets win their first NBA Title in 1994. But understood why they did it to bring Drexler back to H-Town to play alongside of his college teammate Hakeem Olajuwon. And gave Drexler a chance to win his first ring which he did. Definitely good times back then.

    • @superfly19751

      They were struggling without a true second option. OT was a good teammate, great defense, but a very poor scorer. They had to make the change and it worked out well.

    • @JavierRodriguez-gn6bt
      @JavierRodriguez-gn6bt ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes I agree. It's very probable that without Drexler, The Rockets would had lost that 2nd championship. Fortunately enough they did the change and won it, basically because the Glyde put the team in a superior level. But also his humbleness, shown along his whole career, because being the superstar he was, he had no problem at all that Hakeen continued being the main star of the team. Certainly that the strong and sincere friendship between both helps, but when he arrived to Houston he was very clear that he was there to help the Rockets to win a second NBA title in a row, not he to continue being the main and star player as he was in The Trail Blazers. He knew that if he tried to be more important than Olajwon, the team would had got lost. Hakeen also was and is so humble a guy and he knew exactly when to give the protagonism to Clyde, and that was key, particularly in the play offs. A perfect chemistry! But Drexler was also humble and wise enough to recognize that the rest of the team, especially the likes of Elie, Horry, Cassell and Smith, though not superstars properly, were great shooters and 3 pointers, as well as players in general and always passed them the ball when they were the best positioned even though he could have make the points.

    • @TheHeavensFellen
      @TheHeavensFellen 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@superfly19751 he was not a poor scorer, just was not much of a shooter, he was rebounding defense, long passes, run the floor and dunk hard Heck thats why portland demanded they recieve him if they lose drexler and they gave Hpuston tracy murray. I'm 5 minutes in and not a single word has been mentioned about the most significant part of that team: Injuries. The reason the team wasn't doing well wasn't a mystery, and a bunch of poetic sounding cliche shi7 doesn't cover it. The reason the team struggled was because there was never a night with more than 3 starters on the floor.

    • @FuShengAlex

      They barely squeaked out the 94 title. I doubt they would've repeated with the same roster. Hakeem would've needed another 5/5 playoff run to win a title.
      Actually the most significant part thats not mentioned at all (because this was a NBA publication) was Vernon Maxwell punching that fan in Portland.
      Nobody could've known at the time, but Vernon Maxwell going ballistic in Portland was a blessing in disguise. It hastened the trade for Clyde. The offensive synergy between Hakeem and Clyde overwhelmed everyone in the playoffs.

      Yes, you're right!!! I saw the three got retiring with that clashing finals never happened!!! So sad and frustrating. But I would say that it has been great to watch Drexler vs Jordan (as was Bulls vs Trail Blazers in previous years) and Olajuwon vs Rodman... and Pipen somewhat free! I remember in the next season, when Jordan was back for a whole season, that The Rockets made aother similar move, like the one with Drexler, and contracted "Sir" Charles Barkley, trying to assure a 3rd title in a row and also to let Barkley to finally have his ring before retiring. Things worked well up to the WC finals against the Utah Jazz with his also ringless and historic superstars Karl Malone and John Stockton. I'm not pretty sure if it was in six or seven games but The Jazz surprisingly sent the Rockets and his three hall-of-famers out of the final, with that sad, unforgettable and dramatic 3 points throw by Stockton (5'' left to the end of last game), which they played against the no surprising Chicago Bulls. The result was the expected one and The Bulls won their 4th title, winning 4-2 if I remember well. But I'm sure that if the The Bulls would have had The Rockets, the story would had been different... Drexler vs Jordan, Hakeen vs Rodman and Barkley vs Pipen!!

    It truly was an amazing run the Rockets had in 95 for certain. That especially when how lackluster they looked during much of the regular season after their fast start, and when they'd even lose to bad teams who they had no business getting beaten by. Yet they kept finding ways to win, and capitalize on mishaps of who they played once the postseason began, when they'd find that narrow path to victory, which they tackled when opportunity presented itself. It was like a perfect storm had to happen in order for them to repeat, and passed that test with flying colors too.
